I want one REALLLY bad! I found a place in Richmond that'll do it for $40 including the jewerly. I'm be big chicken when it comes to pain and I know it'll hurt like hell but I still want it done. Has anyone on here had it done or know anything about them as to give me information about size and everything? I'm thinking 14G which is the same as in my belly button but I'm not sure...I don't know the standard size or length...I need advice!

What is industrial piercing?
02-20-2007, 03:10 PM
I'm not good at explaining things but here is a pic of one... It's the long bar at the top of the ear.
02-20-2007, 04:13 PM
Damn!! Instead of piercing dont they burn the cartlege in the ear, I'm not sure but it seems like I've heard that before. But anyway if you want one bad enough just go and get it over with, pain is just temporary anyway. Do you have a tattoo?? If so it couldn't be any worse than that.

I Just Got A Tattoo....And I Dont Think It Could Be Worse Than That....Cuz It Hurt Soooooo Bad....LMAO....But IDK....I Dont Think I Know Anyone Who Has It Done...

I haven't heard of them burning the cartledge. I know the first hole is through the thickest part of the cartledge and they put the bar through and let it dangle there while they pierce the second hold. I want one but I'm a wuss when it comes to pain...
No I don't have a tattoo but I want one really bad! I know what I want it to say and where I want it and I know that I want it to be a cross but I haven't found a design I've liked yet. I want one on my shoulder blade on the left side of a cross of some pretty design (not sure on color or black yet either) and I want it to say "In Memory of" and have my grandpa's name on maybe a banner.... I'm not really sure on all the details...that's why I don't hace it already.

A bunch of people that I know have it done and I often consider it myself. You can get it pierced at either a 14 gauge or a 16. I would say that most places pierce at the standard 14, which as you said, is the same size as your belly button. The length varies between 1-2 inches depending on your ear. When they pierce it they pay use one a little bit bigger than what you need to allow for swelling but just ask them. It will give you a general idea what you need; bigger or smaller related to the one that you already have. They don't burn any cartilage, it's just a piercing. SOME studios will pierce the two separate holes and have you put two separate pieces of jewelry into them before you put the industrial bar in a few weeks after, once it has healed. I don't imagine it to hurt TOO bad, going through thick cartilage is kind of hard to do but most people are professional and know how to get it through as quick and easy as possible.
I have 2 tattoos, 5 different things total, and I don't think that they hurt very bad at all. The second one down on my spine was right on a vertabrae and it was the worst but there are far more painful things in the world.
Piercings aren't bad though, if you want it then you should get it. What amount of pain they DO come with only lasts for a very short while and you then have an awesome piercing that you can keep for as long as you want.

I've had my belly button done forever...I first got it done my freshman year and it ripped and I had to take it out and I got it redone my sophmore year I believe...it was a year after I took it out so that it'd heal up good before I redid it. It hurt a little more the 2nd time b/c of scar tissue but it was no big thing. I'm kinda torn between getting it or not. I like them and I'd like to have one but i don't know... I'm going to think more on it though.

I have it done. Got it in Lexington several months ago. It was $25 but I knew the girl who did it b/c we have mutual friends. I love it. They take two needles and put one through the top hole and then one through the bottom and the slide the bar through. I have changed the balls on the ends of mine but not the bar yet. I want a black bar. They pierce it with a 14 g, the same as the tongue. I want my nose done. The industrial piercing is really not that serious. If you don't like it then take it out.

It will hurt like no other.

Yeah I know it'll hurt...but i think it'd be worth it if I do decide to get one... I gotta think about it more...it would suck to get it and then have to take it out for work and stuff this summer...

You only live once, so you might as well do the things you to do, legally that is...lol, but personally I think it looks pretty cool.

I love it. I think it looks awesome on some people. I think it depends on your personality and the way you dress and look honestly. AND IT DOES NOT HURT!!!!!!

I'm still not sure on it...I asked one of my friends who has it done and she said it was the most painful one she has but the pain was bearable. She has her nose, eyebrow, ears and two tattoos.
02-22-2007, 09:25 PM
I didn't think that it hurt at all. I have my tongue and an industrial and now I want my nose done and that's it. Nothing else for me. My best friend has her eyebrow, tongue, industrial, both nipples, and belly button and she said it didn't hurt her either.

I have my cartilage done once and I will assume that the pain would be relative to an industrial and it didn't hurt me at all. I was holding the phone on the same ear the night that I got it done and within 3 days I was completely adjusted to it and slept on it fine.
Sounds like Cali's friend has a lot of experience with being pierced and if everyone is saying that it really doesn't hurt then it probably isn't too painful. I guess it depends on tolerance.

Yeah it does depend alot on a person's pain tolerance. I don't ususally deal with pain too good. I was shocked at how good I did with my belly button. Right after I got it done I went to physical therapy and was biking, lifting weights and doing all my excerisies and it didn't bother me at all.

Go for it if it makes you happy.

If all goes well I'm getting it done today!
02-24-2007, 01:49 AM
Well I got it done...it hurt quite a bit, espically the top hole but cleaning it with the antibacterial soap hurt WAYYYY more! I love it though.
02-25-2007, 09:45 PM
That's awesome DT. I'm glad you went through with it. The pain is nothing compared to how cool it is to have from here on out.
02-26-2007, 02:38 AM
Believe it or not but it only hurt the first day. And even then it wasn't really pain it was like this throbbing sensation. Now like I said the first time I cleaned it with the anti-bacterial soap it burnt like no other that was the only time. I was surprised when I woke up Saturday and it didn't hurt, it didn't even feel like I had anything done. It only hurt when my little cousin went to give me a hug and hit it. Now it only is sore when I'm cleaning it and I move the bar up and down. He pierced it with a 2 inch plastic bar so that it's flexible when I sleep on it and so that it'll give with my ear while it's initially healing, in four to six weeks I get to change it to a 1 1/2 inch bar. I'm glad I went through with it, I got some free H2Ocean salt water spray to clean it becuase I had to wait for him to finish up a tattoo which was no problem for me, it gave me time to calm down. The guy who did it was really professional and really gentle. This was my second time going to Southern Steel for a piercing and I have been extremely pleased with the results from both so I am defintally going back there if I get anything else done.
02-26-2007, 04:09 AM
That is awesome DT. I always wanted mine done but since I have my cartilage done I'm not sure if it can line up right anymore. It's good that you are basically pain free now though. Southern Steel is the way to go, very nice people and clean facility.
02-26-2007, 10:11 AM
Yeah they are! You might want to check and see because they can run them at different angles. Mine is more diagional than probably others but it all depends on the size and shape of your ear. I've seen pics of someone having two industrials criss-crossing each other in the same ear with a cartledge piercing so you never know. I first went to Southern Steel because my belly button piercing got cauht on my shorts one night and ripped and it got infected and I had to take it out and a year later when I went to get it re-done I chose them over going back to Small Town and they were great then and they are still great now. Which then whent I went they were still near the RT. 80/U.S 23 bridge. I am very happy with it, I am just itching to change to a shorter bar...
02-26-2007, 11:35 AM
I had a cartilage piercing a few years back, it burned more than hurt. They don't burn a hole through it. They pierce it with a very thick needle, but the feeling is a burning sensation.
02-26-2007, 01:30 PM
I thought it made more of a burning sensation than what it hurt.
02-26-2007, 06:20 PM
Shorter bars will come soon enough, they just want to allow for swelling and you need to be able to move it around a little bit so infection doesn't set up. It's not something that people usually think about but before you start sliding the bar in your ear make sure that it's clean because those crusties that form and get infection into the holes if you aren't careful. I know you clean it like you should and stuff but if you are turning it and sliding it like they tell you to just make sure that you clean it before and after you do that to be on the safe side.
