Powell Co's new Football Coach is.....
#1
Mike Whitaker, who was hired in 2001, coached the Colonels to a 47-25 record in six seasons including 7-4 last year. He has accepted the job at Powell County, a Class 2-A school in Stanton.
#2
So the rumor was true. I hope they support him and he can get the program on the right track.
#3
Yeah i agree, he has all the supplies he just needs to put them together and i think he can
#4

#5
I see positive things for the Powell County Football Program in the future! This is a very good hire for them.
Welcome to the best site in town! If you need anything, just let me know.
#6
This guy can coach. Trust me. Seen it first hand. If he can get everyone on board, he'll be in good shape.
#7
Good hire Powell, best of luck.

#18

Coach K.c Jones will be brought back. He really helped out alot last year as a quarterback and runningback coach. Coach Fugate returns as the offensive line coach. He really gets after it and pushes the boys. He also knows what he's talking about when it comes to protecting the Qb. This will be a priority this year. Powell also hired another coach. Im not sure of his name, I think it is Coach Thompson but he will be the defensive coordinator this year. He will also be the strength and conditioning coach as well. Powell is stacked in the coaching department.

He won't be the Quarterback coach, thats Whitaker's baby.

Yeah Whitaker has produced some dandy Qb's over his career.
#23
Congrats to Coach Whitaker and good luck to Powell Co. next season
#24
With Coach still being out west, will Powell have spring ball?
#25
I look for Powell to get that winning season this year. The kids are working harder than ever and coach Thompson is doing a great job. With coach Whitaker at the helm and a well rounded staff I forsee a season like coach Randy Wood had his first year at Morgan.
Powell has some solid linemen and a good core of atheletes and that first winning season is comming sooner than most will think. Powell could win 8 games this year.

Remember the name "RICE". I can predict with the great job coach Whitaker does with his qb's, He will be in the states top passers. He's a junior and around 6'4. Powell also has some exceptional sophomore talent comming up. It's Powell's time to turn it around and get on the winning track. Powell also has the big book end tackles in Ledford and Elam.
Both are 300lber's. Really forsee a tremendous improvement at Powell county in coach Whitakers first season.

I'm excitied for Powell County and hope that Coach Whitaker can turn the program around! I just wonder why Coach Whitaker is leaving a 4 A School to come to a 2 a school? I heard his wife even works for the C.C school board? Why would someone leave all that when he was so productive there? Maybe he is "in it" for the kids...who knows!

Powell's football team has acutally been in the weightroom and on the track running for about 3-4 weeks now. Tomorrow will be the first official spring practice.
#29
rice was allready in the state for passing and some other things, and it was his first year. powell, if they keep up the hard work and dedication, i see bright things wit hthem and whitaker, from what i hear he has support, and everyone likes him, i think this is not from his coaching ability, but from tim couch. coach jones was one of the best coaches powell had. but now his time is up, time for a new coach, i just hope things go well for powell this fall.

Players don't learn mechanics on their own. Tim Couch was born a great athlete, but he didn't learn how to see coverages or get his footwork down on his own. Mike Whitaker was a major influence on that part of his game. Coach Whitaker was no slouch on the field either, he was All-State on either defense or offense 3 out of his four years at Leslie Co. Then went on to U.K. and eventually to Eastern where he was an all american. Also played with the Patriots in the mid to late 80's. Pretty good QB with alot of knowledge for the position.
