On this Memorial Day, I thought this piece was interesting and fitting! Awesome story and makes me proud to be an American and to know that we have people like this making our lives in America what it is today!
The question was: "I know that they started guarding the tomb in 1937 but I wanted to know the reasoning behind it. "

It said that the decision to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was a sign of respect to the fallen ones. Below I included a piece I received from a fellow veteran regarding the Tomb of the Unknown.
In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington , DC , our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment. They respectfully declined the offer, "No way, Sir!" Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceperson. The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.
Hope this info helped..
And hope you all enjoyed this piece of information !

I visited Arlington as a Junior in high school, with the Presidential Classroom, we were given a wonderful tour of the entire site... complete with fascinating insights to it's origin and its meaning to our country.
I am proud of our monuments, our traditions, and our service men and women. (Past, Present, and Future)
I support them first, last, and always...
Being Patriotic is not just a trend, it's heartfelt. I'm sure everyone knows this feeling. (although it certainly freaks me out to see some politicians play to the millions of voters in this country come election time.... Hey guys{politicians}... we're "on to you"... note the # of votes cast on television talent contests compared to those cast on election day!LOL)
