Yea, that is crazy that we will be playing teams that are from PITTSBURGH and ATLANTA... wow!
I may go see a game or two. The cheapest tickets are only 5 bucks! BUT if a good high school game is on the same night I will pick the high school game over the Miners.

This good though. People all around the country looking at their teams schedule is going to achknowledge Pikeville by saying.." Pikeville? Where the heck is that!"
We are finally getting our name out there lol.
This is just a joke, don't freak out or anything.

Dude ... don't diss the Patroons. Defending American Conference champs.
And it remains to be seen if the Atlanta franchise will play this season after taking last year off.

Dude I guess you are up on your CBA basketball.... I don't know jack about these teams. Minot is a good basketball team?

Dude, chill out. I wasn't dissing the Patroons (which one is that, BTW, Minot or Albany?) at all. I was dissing the entire league.

Look, you missed the point of my post, which was that games against places that many people around here have never heard of aren't exactly going to bring out large crowds. It wouldn't matter if they're the 10-time defending league champions or not, there's no rivalry and no hook to bring 'em in.

The Miners are an expansion team. Of course there's no rivalry.

The Albany Patroons won the American Conference, with the Minot Sky Rockets second.
And the quarters-won system is going to make your head spin.

You could easily have a rivalry as an expansion team, if there was another team in the league that is close geographically. For Pikeville, imagine if there was also an expansion team in say, Kingsport TN or Charleston WV. Pikeville could easily market a team like that as a rivalry game, in order to draw in fans. I remember when the Louisville Panthers of the AHL were created by expansion, they immediately became a rival to the Kentucky Thoroughblades (who were based in Lexington), simply due to geography. But the closest city to Pikeville in the CBA is Pittsburgh, then Atlanta, neither of which is close enough to be considered a rival.
Once again, the point I've been trying to make is that seeing teams from far-away cities that many have never heard of will not draw in large crowds.

Looking at the cities these other teams are in it is pretty crazy to think that Pikeville has something like this. I really hope the Miners the best and I hope that this is how the Expo can bring in more concerts and acts (which I am more excited about).

I always hear a rumor that Patrick Sparks would be coming... I guess we get Brandon Stockton as our UK fill.

Yeah, I had heard the Sparks rumor too. I guess it would be kind of cool to have Stockton on the Miners, but he wasn't exactly the fan favorite that Sparks was. I don't think that having Stockton on the team will help the box-office near as much as some other UK players might have.

Maybe the future camps will hold a past UK jewel one of these years. Stockon is a former MR. Basketball so he may hold some significance with the high school, b-ball nuts around here.
BTW there was a dude that played at UL that is on the last list with Stockon.

I think some former high school stars from this area would draw in the 'high school b-ball nuts' around here better than Stockton. I still have my doubts about the ability of this team to draw fans, but I wish the best for them...

With (sucky) tickets 5 bucks I may go see a game that the high games are not playing.

heres a way to sell tickets......sign Todd May and watch the people come out. I hear the dude can still do it..

No more pointless than whole idea of bringing a minor-league basketball team to Pikeville in the first place. Oh well, guess that's beside the point...
Anyway, I never said a team of former local prep stars would be competitive, you're absolutley right they would get torched. For that matter I never suggested the entire team should be comprised of such players. I did suggest that including 1 or 2 of these players would help create a local draw to bring people in, which I still believe is true. Put a couple former H.S. stars on the team, let 'em play a few minutes during blowouts, and everyone wins.

I don't think they would give it a go, either. I wasn't really being serious about them playing, I just remember how much fun it was to watch them star for Pikeville College back in the day. Although I'm sure they've still got the skills, I don't know how long they could run up and down the court with all those 25 year old NBA-wannabes!

Still, if they ever did it for like a one-night-only thing (maybe for charity), I would definitely pay to see that!
