Speaking of "numbers-game," I'm hearing that since Coach Branham left for ERidge, there might be VERY small numbers of players on the sidelines for B. Layne (number I heard -- granted, this was DEEP inside the rumor mill -- was 13!).
The biggest concern for these BLayne opponents MAY be, "what do you do if the team you're scheduled to play in one of your 10 reg. season games has to FORFEIT due to lack of numbers!"
I HOPE there's no truth to the "13 out for the team" rumor...but if it's true, these other schools need to be aware so they can make other plans.

I was at the field tonight and asked the coach, and the roster number is up to 28 players but only 24 was at practice due to some kids vacationing. Sorry but your information was wrong!!!!!

Sorry but your information was wrong!!!!!That sums up Betsy Layne's football problem!! Serious football players don't go on vacation the week of July 15. That is why BL football will always struggle!!

I totally agree bballfan....but i can vouch for betsylaynefanatic's numbers and can say that the ones we do have and are not on vacation are working their asses off everyday and honestly think we will be ready come august 24th, and will promise that we WILL NOT lay down for any team this year!!!

I can honestly say that there is not quit in those young men!!!!!

I'll say this about Betsy Layne this year: If You men can get the boys out to play for you this season, enough to switch men in and out on defense and offense, then you should get a 3 seed in the playoffs this year. JMO, talk to your friends boys, get em to come out and play. I know there a lot of boys up there, get em to come out, and lets make History this season.

Now Betsy Layne didn't always struggle. For a while in the mid-nineties they were on the verge of being a tough ball club till their coach left for P-burg.

I feel bad for Betsy Layne because I know how the small numbers affects a team.

Betsy layne dont have low numbers, they are about right with the other teams in their district.
NUFFSAID
And When Puckett was quarterback, they didnt do no better, sorry to bust anyones bubble. Only reason derossett done so well, he played sub par teams out of district.
sorry to be so tough, but its true

In 97 Betsy Layne had Craig Hamilton as QB he was very good. He played for Georgetown in college. He also had played for Coach Derossett.
Craig Hamilton

Coach Parsons, does something special for Craig's mom and dad every year. I know for a fact, Craig Hamilton along with Bubba Combs are two greats from Betsy Layne football History. Don't get me wrong, there are more, but these are the two that stick out.

Is Derosett playing sub par teams at P-Burg? They did do better when Puckett was QB, had he not broke his leg and Derosett had stayed, could be totally opposite in Floyd Co. Takes a tough kid to get warmed up on WHAM!!!!

Rip 28, I dont know who you get your information from, but Tyler Puckett was seriously over rated. His senior year they won one game. Derossett is playing a tougher schedule, but dont forget where he started, he took the bobcats out of district, to win games, and he is currently the winnest coach in betsy layne history.

betsylayne fanatic Wrote:and he is currently the winnest coach in betsy layne history. Is that saying alot? How many years was Derossett at BL and how many games did he win?

I think derossett was at bl for four years. I think he went 3-7, 4-6, 5-5, and 6-4. The winnest year in betsy layne history...

Betsy Layne will never have a program until they start to take football serious. You can't just hire someone that went to school there because they want the job. If they really wanted to win why didn't they try getting a coach with experience in turning a program around. Know I'm not trying to bad mouth BL because I would love to see them win, but come on. You don't have any real coaching experience in the staff and the players on film look horrible. They have no fundamentals, they don't look strong, and they don't hussle very hard. Say what you want about a 3 seed or a 4 seed, but until the school top to bottom puts in an effort to turn the program back around try 1-9 or 0-10.

amen to that. BL will always struggle until they get serious with there program. and if BL has a winning season it won't be because of great coaching he does have a lot of talent and most of the teams coach p will be paying are down this year. almost all the district teams lost all there great players and all of BL players that where great are back so if and i mean if that win more than 3 that will be the reason why.:ChairHit:

last practice i seen jenkins had 16 kids praticin and 2 ot 3 hurt. but they looked like they had more then 20 sum at the scrimmage
08-13-2007, 06:26 AM
Does anybody know if something happened to one of BL football players? I hope what I heard isn't true.
08-13-2007, 07:30 AM
Yes. Freshman Casey Adkins was injured in some kind of motocross race.
08-13-2007, 08:40 AM
I heard Casey crushed his knee, broke his hand and his collar bone. He's at Pikeville Medical I think. It was in a Motorcross Race.
