Jeff Cyrus committs to Pikeville College

bigE Wrote:well i dont know you but my best assumption would be that unless you personally played for him or know who you wouldn't have the slightest clue about what kind of a coach he was or could be. Coach staggs had never coached volleyball and he's done a pretty good job with them. You admit he did coach under lemaster so that discredits one of your statements which says that he had 0 yrs experience. You did give Cyrus a compliment but in the same breathe you badmouthed the decision he made...I just wish people would be more positive about the sports system here in eastern kentucky, and what it accomplishes.

I'm alumni, played intramurals with Don etc. so yeah I think I know him pretty damn good. I watched the baseball team every home game when I was at PC and even caught a bunch of em last year after I was done with school. Ask any of his players and they will tell you the same things I have said. The only thing he knows is strength and conditioning, he doesn't know the game of baseball like a college coach should.

obvioulsy you dont either, intramurals and actually playing the game are alot different so i dont expect you to understand any aspect of the game...what don knows and doesn't know shouldn't be brought in to question when were talking about a young man getting a chance to play at the next level...

Congratulations to Mr. Cyrus for reaching the next level in his career. No matter what level it is good to see any young man get the opportunity to play college baseball and most importantly get a degree, which is the purpose of collegiate athletics.

Congrats to Jeff. He's a great player and will help out Pikeville's team.

While this is not a post about the state of Pikeville College baseball. I am a former baseball alum from Pikeville College and speaking to many former alums and players I do worry about the current state. There are many fine coaches who are grads of PC that are in the high school and collegiate ranks. I do not know the current coach well other than who he is, but it does perplex me to think that PC could have gotten a person who has had a track record of coaching baseball and was a college player. I enjoyed my years at PC and the many friendship that I made. Those players are still my friends and the memories will always bring a smile to my face. I hope the baseball program at Pikeville College gets on track and will bring in quality players from all over to a great school as is shown from the example of Mr. Cyrus.

the current state of the program has a lot to do with how lemaster left it...i remember i a season, i believe it was 2004, that the program had to cancell its season because all the puerto ricans were either ineligible or didn't come back from christmas break...they didn't even have enough to field a team after all of them left....because of that three years later they are still in the process of rebuilding to a team who can compete and i commend ashby on how hard he does work in trying to do so....

If Mr. Ashby is not a true baseball man, but a good man who has the players best interest at heart, then why dont the college find him a quality assitant coach who can bring in players from all over. I do agree with the comment from the gentlemen about the Mid South being a tough baseball conference with quality coachest. Baseball at the level has really upped its game. If he does need help then I believe the college needs to pay a full time assistant coach who has had coaching baseball experience and is considered a baseball man. I do know of past players who have outstanding coaching experience. I believe as an alum and past baseball player that I am going to find out why this team does not have an assistant coach. If they are going to compete in the tough Mid-South, they need the same as the others have.

What are you talkin about? I said I played intramurals with him, referring to your statement, "unless you personally played for him or know who you wouldn't have the slightest clue about what kind of a coach he was or could be."

I know plenty about the game, played it my whole life, started 3rd at Paintsville for 3 years and could have played at PC but chose to play football only. What Don knows and doesn't know has alot to do with talkin about a young man playin for him especially when the kid knows more than the coach does.

As a baseball alum from Pikeville College I am glad to see Mr. Cyrus is going to wear the black and orange and wish him the very best. I hope when he gets his degree that he will have many wonderful memories as I did. I am wanting the best for Pikeville College, but the athletic department must understand that baseball in the Mid-South is serious buisness and they need to exhaust every effort to make sure that they can compete in the conference. The coaches in the conference are very good and recruit very well. I have the upmost respect for the ones at Cumberland and Campbellsville. Pikeville College must make sure that it provides the student with every opportunity to succeed whether it means by finding new leadership or providing the current leadership with assistant coaches who are baseball people. I do believe that Pikeville College should look at the many former players who have been good baseball people and coaches to help in any capacity
