Get through Mason first and then you guys can worry about Raceland. Until then put both him and them out of your minds and focus on the task at hand.
Don't disappoint one of your former teammates that is traveling from his school near Cincinnati to watch your first game this year by loosing this game from looking forward to the Raceland game.

I sure hope so, no pressure or anything, but the town will probably disown you all if you lose. They may cancel the rest of the season. Plus Ill have to move out of town, because it will be unbearable to come in contact with anyone from Raceland. They already smell funny anyways.

i did not think teams like east ridge, estill, powell, or pike central had big rivalries

Now that I think about it I believe that Magoffin County is hard rival for East Ridge.

I think the Estill/Powell game has turned into quite the rivalry in the past years.

Well I played at Jenkins, and for teams like Jenkins, consolidation has killed pretty much any inkling of a rivalry..It used to be Jenkins/Neon was the game that got my blood pumping, because I hated Fleming Neon until the day they consolidated. Always did. Never rooted for them against anybody. We also had bad blood with Johns Creek, Elkhorn City, Whitesburg, among others..I miss that..high school football is great, but I miss the old small schools...In its day, the Whitesburg/Neon game was always full of bad blood, fighting, and fun filled family entertainment, lol... But now, its really hard to pick a rivalry for Jenkins..the Jenkins/Harlan game might turn out to be a good series, now that its district..

Year in and year out (most of the time) when these two teams play it determines the district champion. This rivalry dates back to the Hillard Howard and Walter Brugh days and was a bitter one back then.

For Pikeville.
Belfry,P-burg,Hazard and Beechwood. I respect all these schools but I dont like any of 'em. LOL!!!!!

HAIL PIKEVILLE! Wrote:This rivalry dates back to the Hillard Howard and Walter Brugh days and was a bitter one back then.Now-a-days it's basically the district championship with Hazard leaving. The thing the regular season game determines is where the playoff game will be held. IMO Both programs are not what they used to be. And I had heard that Paintsville had only beaten Pikeville like once since 1983 is that true? I couldn't see how because most the games are usually close and exciting.

Magoffin Countys would have to be Morgan County..
why..Morgan County always used to schedule magoffin county for their home opener because they knew they could win!!!

But recently it would have to be everyone that Russell plays....You have an X on your back after back to back state games.
Ric Flair said it best- "To be the man, you have to beat the Man !"
Us Pirate fans know that feeling

TBH, our new rival IS Russell, but it's a friendly rivalry, and there's a lot of respect I feel, on both sides. We know that we're competing against the best, and that no matter what it's going to be a great game. In our minds, the championship game might as well be that night, and the trip to Louisville is just to pick up the trophy and watch the gang one last time

Our regular season rival is going to be SC now. I'm sure SC feels the rivalry stronger right now than we do though. I REALLY wish we could have played Pburg this year, though :*(

I think that Belfry and Russell truely enjoy playing each other. I can assure you the players respect each other. It's funny how things work out. The chances of us playing each other are very slim but it just seems to happen each year. Two great teams. I'm sure that Breathitt and Mason County will have something to say about it this year. We will all see soon.

i would have to agree with you on that one the schools hate one another, the players do not care much for one another and well the coaches lets just say they have had there diffrences over the last couple of year.

Yes Paintsville has only beat Pikeville once since the mid 80's, my Junior (2001) year we beat them at Pikeville 28-6, 28-7 somethin like that. We won the region that year. But 9 times outta 10 it was always a close game. I remember in the mid 90's Pikeville was ranked #1 in the state and Paintsville led them the entire ballgame but Pikeville ended up winnin it in the 4th quarter. They weren't in the same district that year though, that may have been when Paintsville moved to the district with Raceland and that bunch.

LCC is only in it's 3rd year, but I know for the players, coaches, and fans, Perry Central and Clay County are both pretty anticipated games

I'll have to agree that lately, It's Belfry/Russell. IMO, they will meet again this year (I think it will be at the CAM?)

Prestonsburg Still Should Play Belfry Every Year.if We Do Not Play Belfry We Do Not Have Much Competition With Any Of The Schools Around Close.go Blackcats.

We are born hating each other.. It's in built into our DNA..lol

At Highlands, the answer is quite clearly Covington Catholic, although a few years back it probably would have been Newport Central Catholic (but they won't play us anymore
).
Something tells me that the second game of the playoffs should feature a second meeting between our two teams, and I encourage anyone to head up north and watch nky's finest battle it out for all the marbles.

Here in Whitley County, rivalries are discouraged. Whitley has not played Corbin in over 25 years and Whitley has not played Williamsburg in over 30 years. This in spite of the fact that both Williamsburg and Corbin lie within Whitley County.
The gate from these games would be huge and the fan interest would be out of sight. The reasons these teams stopped playing 3 decades ago, should be forgotten history and
the teams should play again.
