I think he got retained in grade school, when he lived in Fla. Come on though! It's not like he's 6'-1" & 210 lbs. The boy is 160 lbs with a full stomach and 5'-10" with a full head of hair. He will be a sophmore next year though...

What teams run a 3-5? College, high school, or pros?

Booya Wrote:What teams run a 3-5? College, high school, or pros?If you have the right kids...Anyone can run it. I am pretty sure that is just a passing "D", isn't it?
I prefer the old 4-4. Only because that's the system I was brought up in. It always worked for us. It was a good balance. Personel will dictate what "D" you run most of the time.

I wasn't saying it could not be ran. I was just wandering who ran it. I can't think of anyone. I know that WVU runs a 3-3, and I know a lot of NFL teams do as well in passing situations, I just haven't heard of a 3-5.

According to their website they run a 3-4 with a rover, not a 3-5, plus their defense isn't that good anyway. Delaware killed them two weeks ago.

all I'm saying is their defense needs to get much better. The offense is great.

I wouldn't say the offense is great. IMO the defense is better than the offense, but regardless the offense is not great, it needs just as much work.

19.5 ppg on offense 28.5 ppg on defense

i played against them earlier, and they do have some decent players, just not a great offensive line... it takes a line to really make a team, and that comes from hard work in the off season in the weight room.. i think in 2 years they will compete.

They need to work on playing as a team more...that's how I see it anyway

Right on Team Mom. I think much of this season was spent on who was the better QB.

Team Mom you couldn't be any more correct. As you all know all Powell threads end up being a debate over a certain person's son being the best player ever to play football, just a para-phrase, however if they played as a team and the ENTIRE COMMUNITY supported them as a TEAM then they could be better than they are. I strongly disagree with how some people get on here and demean players and coaches only to try and build his child up. That is not what coaches or supporters do. A person that truly wants Powell to win will not start threads like this and they will not say that the only player they have is this kid or that one. Someone who supports them will say things like they are a young team that needs more experience and needs to learn how to play together for the betterment of the team. Remember guy their is no "I" in team, that means me, you, etc. If you want to support Powell then support them through actions as well as words. Remeber this is a growing program. But it will not grow if people continue to act how they are any time Powell is mentioned.

In order to have a future don't you first have to have a past?

I think they will do good in a couple of years. Just give them time to get ready to Whitaker's style of offense, and they might be contenders.

I agree!

A 3-5 has worked out well for Toledo. They have allowed the most ppg in football this year, This according to ESPN last nigh as they got blown out by BALL STATE. Navy stinks and according to you they run a 3-5. Why not just let the kid you are related to do whatever he wants and make the other kids take up blockers. I heard that is what they tried in middle school and all that did was to make kids quit or make them worse for high school. I heard the middle coach didn't know much but his kid played and all he did was see how much he could get his kid attention. By the way your coach is leaving so run what you want.

YOU HAVE TO PLAY DEFENSE!!! You can lower your schedule and beat sub par teams with offense, but if you want to be GREAT you have to play DEFENSE....... What good does it do to score 50 if you give up 51? Prime example..... Hal Mumme..... score score score and lose lose lose.

If we would have got it clicking on offense in a couple of games, we would be sitting at 6-4 or 5-5. But "IF" a frog had wings......You get where I'm going. I too, think "D" wins the big ones, but we played good "D" in a few games that the "O" just sputtered. Most of our guys that play "O", play "D" too. So we need some #'s to come out and help us get better.
Get to the weight room too, Pirates!

Yes that is true. But there was a couple of times where the defense was pretty good.

Let me rephrase that, One of the most talented. He was on the news on tv for his performance. good luck pirates....
I think the most talented person to come out of Powell has to be Ryan Stewart. Thats just my opinion.

I'm a bit confused about this statement.
.....anyway......
This is being said with love because I am a Powell supporter...but....Powell Co. has a tendency to blame others for the losses in general. I believe most of this idea comes from the parents. It is amazing to look at the support that a team like Belfry gets from their parents and community. Granted, Belfry wins more, but it has to start somewhere! It's time for Powell Co. to support the team. The program needs more money and more positive attitudes! They need better weight equipment and more support...period. Where is all the money for this program?
I would like to challenge every single business owner in Powell Co. to get behind this program and sponsor them. Why can't everyone stop focusing on one average player and put more attention on the team and the program in general?
It takes an entire team to win a game, guys..why can't everyone see that? Everyone's job is important on the team. I can absolutely see why these kids don't feel like winners...with attitudes like this...emphasizing the "greatness" of one player.

I was referring to a statement that he was ONLY a freshman. I'm just saying...call it like it is. He shouldn't be referred to as such when he really isn't.

The thread says "future of Powell Co. football." Is Whitaker going to stay long enough to build a program? How long has he stayed at his previous stops? It takes time. As for community support, he needs to get out in the community more and find out who his supporters are.

So, if he was an 18 year old "freshman" you don't think that he should be playing a little bit better than the 15 year old freshmen??
