Letcher Central - 21
Whitely County - 16

Last game between the two was tight and went into overtime. I see this one being pretty close again and same result by LCC winning!

Home field advantage. LCC by a TD.

Either of the four teams could easily win this district. The teams are well matched. Neither team is a very good 5A club. I think all four teams have beated by 1A teams. Whoever advances will be huminted by Highlands in the 3rd round. An all star team made of the best players from 5A District 8 could not beat Highlands this season.

Does Whitley get the kid back that hasn't played the last4-5 games? He could be a difference maker in the playoffs. The district should be really competitive. And Possum Bait----don't go ragging about HIghlands destroying whoever they meet. This is what sports is all about---Davids vs. Goliaths. Has the word "upset" benn erased from your vocabulary? Let me refresh you Appalachian State beating Michigan ----Ky over LSU. Stanford over USC (after going 1-11 last year). You call yourself a fan------a fan is someone who supports ALL athletes in their endeavors and someone who instills in kids that nothing is impossible. With your attitude---we don't even need to go play the "Highlands" or Bell Co's. Teenage athletes can do amazing things-----that is if they have adults who support them in their endeavors. Thank God that these young people haven't accepted your defeatist attitude and that us "fans" can show up on Friday nights and watch the magic as it sometimes unfolds. You stay home when our District winner goes and plays Highlands ( or whoever wins that District) We "fans " don't need you and our kids certainly don't either. No offense is meant to you---I have enjoyed a lot of your posts prior to this----but this one is pitiful

Labanion will play Friday Night. He will be a big factor. He is a good multipurpose athlete and perhaps most importantly he can kick field goals and extra points.
On the Highlands issue. The law of probabiltiy states that all possible outcomes have a probability of occurance that can be represented by some real number lying outside the set of imaginary numbers. In other words anything is possible, however the event may have to be played a million or so times for the least probable event to occur. Any team coming out of 5A District 8 has about the same chance of beating Highlands as the average person has of getting struck by lightening. It happens, but it ain't likely. I will, however be pulling like a madman for whoever the 5A district 8 champ is.

PB is right, Highlands is a very tough team and aleast a 20 point better team than anyone in district 8 but I'll be pulling for the district 8 winner.Back on the thread this should be a exciting game.I'll take Whitley in a shootout.

I have to say something about Highlands here. I have to agree with p'bait. We were 8-2 going in to play them in 2000 in the playoffs and could almost tell you what the were going to do and lined up to stop it and they just man handled us. We also had several players along with our QB who were being recruited by a couple good D1 schools. They will dominate whoever they play that comes out down here. All though I will be pulling for whoever plays them. I think LCC will have their hands full with Whitley.

on that hole highlands issue i just cant possibly see a team who is bearly going to beat whitley even coming close to playing with a team like highlands...lets not be negative but lets be real

I thought Whitley played its best game of the season in the first Letcher game. Personell wise, the matchup was very equal. Whitley turned the ball over for TD's on its first two pocessons of the 4th quarter. Letcher ended up winning in overtime. If Whitley can go to Whitesburg and play as well as they did in Williamsburg without killing themselves with turnovers, I like Whitley's chances. Turnovers have killed Whitley all year. I think they had 4 turnovers in second half last week alone.
If Whitley throws the ball 10 times or less, I think they will tough one out and surprise everyone. (Maybe they should leave the coach calling the offensive plays in Wiliamsburg. Just kidding)
Whitley 28
Letcher 24
Highlands is a pro team, if you know what I mean, but can not legally say on this site.
It is hard for big rural schools like those in 5A Section 8 to compete with a team that drafts players from a metropolitan area of over two million people. Highlands should be in the division with X and T.

If the Cougar defense steps it up a notch, I see no reason for the Cougars not to win!
I don't think LCC will have any problems scoring.

The Cougars don't need to worry about Ft. Thomas right now. If they come out the least bit unfocused on the task at hand, Whitley Co. definently has the personel to take initiative and send the Cougars home early. This is the playoffs...stay focused LCC

Couldn't agree more. Although they have the ability to make it that far, one mental slip-up against either of their first two playoff opponents and they're done.

There are a lot of 1st round games that could go either way and this is another one. I will say that LCC wins this one by a score or two.

It is by playing the best (Highlands) that you get a true measurement of how far you have came and how far you have to go. Whoever wins the District has a TREMENDOUS opportunity to play one of the state's best teams. And by the way Possum Bait---over 2000 people a year are struck by lightning. And really---If it were not for the possibility of upsets, how many people would attend 75% of Friday night games. Thank goodness that games are decided on the field and not by the law of probability ( that would make it a dull season without a doubt). I haven't picked who I believe will win this district because I don't know what team wants it the most and I think that you would have to agree that as close as each team is----the one with the most HEART will be the toughest to beat. I also believe that it is not necessarily what each team does byt rather how well they do it. I enjoy conversing with you and the other guys on this. Have a great day.

LCC is a good team, that I think can do some pretty good things in this year's playoffs. They have one of the best coaches ever in Kentucky and they seem to have a lot of community support. The sky is the limit for them. And they will cruch Whitley

Windsprint,
I think we said exactly the same thing. 2000 people out of a population of 300,000,000 works about to slightly less than 1 in a million if I did the math correctly. Of course, we all show up on Friday night in hopes of a victory regardless of the odds.

Playoff football is won by the following: limiting the # of turnovers, special teams, and field position.
With LCC's field, the playing conditions will not matter as much as in other playoff games.

Well lets see Highlands was getting stomped by Louisville Central until the fourth quarter last week so I would say that a team with more nerve, that played with a little more ice in the vein puts you unbeatable team to sleep in week 10 so I think its important to emphasize that anything can happen

LCC is too much for Whitley IMO. I see a big matchup between PCC and LCC come next week though, which will be a VERY interesting ball game. But, I think LCC will come out on top of the district and play Highlands come third round....good luck to both teams tho.
