This was a bizarre game.
Lawrence Co's coaches came out all dressed in mossy oak camo coveralls. I thought they were gonna put up a tree stand on the goal post??? Silly..........

Lawrence Co's team ran out after warm-ups and gathered on the BC Mascot on the 50 yd line and started barking and jumping up and down.

Lawrence Co changes quarterbacks like a Broadway star changes costumes.

Boyd played really well but they have played better. (Their best game was against Greenup)

Then after the game, players from Lawrence Co. started a fight when they were supposed to be shaking hands and showing sportsmanship. It all started with 2 LC players that were overheard trying to get the courage up to do something. Then one of them finally started pushing BC players around.
There was a 10-15 person battle royal going on and the Police and coaches had to break it up. The fights were going on for a good 2 minutes all over the field. Pandemonium as Tony Shavonie would have said.

The #1 dirtiest play of the fight was when one player from LC blind sided Crisp by spearing him from a dead run. Crisp was minding his own business and trying to stay out of the fight at the time.

Goldsmith and the rest of the LC coaches apologized and said they were embarrassed by the conduct of several of their players.

Bad really Bad.

Congratulations to BC! They out played LC all night and out classed them as well.

Now go beat Greenup Co and win a trophy for the first time in a long time!

Congrats to BC. I hate to hear about the fight on any terms, though. It's a disappointment for the kids. All of the kids. As for the camo, that's pretty funny. Boyd and Lawrence have traditionally been known as the most country type teams I've known of, and they're both very happy and proud of it. At most Boyd and Lawrence games you'll find large amounts of fans dressed head to toe in camo. I'm sure Boyd Co felt just as much at home seeing the camo as the Lawrence players.

Sounds like Lawrence Co. football has gone to the "Dawgs"!!
#9
LC had a down season
#10
Hard to believe L.C. was 1-10 this season. Impressive win though Boyd! Good Luck next week!!!
#11
I was pulling for Lawrence but a good win for Boyd.

congratulation Boyd Co. I really hated the fight, it makes me mad that a couple of players will ruin it and make the whole team look bad. It was an embarrassment. In defense of some of our boys though, I didn't think that it was very classy for the Boyd Co. fans to heckle the players as they were walking up the stairs (these are the ones not fighting). Sour way to end a sour year. good luck next week against Greenup Co.

BC won the game fair and square so I don't know what the fight was about???? :o I did see Coty Roberts (23) walk over to the BC boys on the field and apologize for the actions of his team. He was not invovled in the scuffle, he was actually back talking to a couple of the BC coaches when it broke out. As a senior, I am sure that he did not want those boys to walk away thinking that this was LC football, it is not. Not sure what was said, but the majority of the BC team stood up and hugged him. That took a lot of class on that young man.
It was senseless Sad and just takes a couple of boys not knowing how to act. I hate that the Crisp kid got hurt and hope that he is OK.
With the exception of the fight, it was a good game and up until the end of the third quarter, the win was up for grabs. It was a closer game that the score implied and both teams fought hard. The LC team had a lot of talent in their seniors and they did not deserve to go out like that. I predict that the program will undergo some changes and hopefully we will get our football program back that we love in Lawrence County. Congrats BC. Since they are not playing at GC Wink , they should win out. They are the better team.

I gotta agree with Dawgmom on this-the Dawgs weren't the only players running their mouths and we all know it only takes 1 comment to get boys fired up, especially in a tense situation like that. I am not applauding the boys for their behavior but lets not blame it all on LC-the BC players were just as arrogant and mouthy. It will end for them soon enough.

Our boys should be embarassed that things got that out of control. As for the future, lets hope its brighter. I hate the way this season went for the senior boys but you know there were alot of underclassmen as well and I hate it just as much for them. And its too bad that now LC is going to go through yet another rebuilding period.

Coty Roberts is one great kid.

That took NERVE and CLASS for him to go into BC's huddle after the game to apologize for something he wasn't even involved in.
IMO, that is the kind of leadership this team was missing all year long..
Best of luck to Coty in his future adventures!!

This is high school football and the trash talking goes on all of the time. The difference being is that BC controlled their selves well enough not to look bad at the end of the game.

Good job Boyd. Better luck next year LC.

You are right-I don't think anybody from LC is applauding the actions of our players.

I wasn't saying that anyone was. I was just stating that it goes on all of the time and Boyd Co came out on top this time. My son used to tell me some of the things that went on during the game. He always told me that from the stands it looked like they were shaking hands and helping each other up but while they were doing that they were just talking trash. It's the mental part of the game to throw the other team off.

Well that's a fine way to show leadership. Make excuses for unsportmanlike conduct. Every player on that field is resposible for their own actions.

Sounds like Big Dawg had to eat some sour grapes last night and crow for breakfast this morning and it doesn't taste too good.

#23 did have the courage to go into the BC huddle afterwards and apologize. He is to be commended. But he stands alone.
#21
Actually I'm eating nothing. if you read my post, nowhere did I commend the LC players for their behavior. it was unacceptable. But like Midee said, it goes on in every game and this time exploded in a senseless brawl. But no, never did I say that was acceptable on the part of LC. I am as ashamed as anyone.

Again I say that Coty (#23) is an awesome kid. But I do take offense that all of LC has been lumped into this category. My son is an active member of the team but was NOWHERE near that mayhem (nor was the largest majority of the team). Yes there was a "few" that were out of control and it too bad that makes the entire team guilty. And for the record, I don't even own camo.

good job Boyd county.......

Good kids in the senior class. They played on four teams with losing records.Losing Roberts and others will hurt but we need to wipe the slate clean.I believe we need to start fresh next year with a few new coaches .I would keep the line coach from Marshall and the freshman coach,, Blake Preece too..Too many people on the sidelines that are not players. Not scoring against Boyd county was bad.Russell and Belfry are two programs that we used to resemble with a smash mouth style. We need to go back to the basics.Did Goldsmith ever say he was not coming back?He is a great guy.I would like to see him with our younger kids in the middle schools. As far as what the other coaches think, I dont think anybody cares. They have run the program in the ground with their ignorance.
#25
Back in the older days, trash talking didnt exist the way it is now.Bill russell once said trash talking someone in the NBA in the 60's would have gotten your nose broke..I think we should teach our players to keep their mouths shut.Their only folowing the examples of overpaid, ignorant pro players.Fighting has gotten out of hand.Younger generation needs to learn that fighting has no place in football.Trash talking is nothing more than IGNORANCE BEING VOCALIZED.A part of the game that has no place!!!Fighting is a result of trash talking!!

thats great to hear what coty did
and also is great to hear crisp tried to stay out of it
they need him in the following week

Goldsmith is not coming back. He told the boys that he submitted his resignation. We need to go back to the belly and play the lawrence county football that we love! There was a lot of talent on this team that the record clearly does not reflect. The future will be bright if we get the right type of coach(s) in the program. As far as Coty going over to the boys, he did this as a leader of the team but rest asure that there were many seniors that were not invovled in the scuffle and they conducted themselves appropriately. I look for these seniors to be fine young men and wish them all the luck. Good luck to BC.

Good post devil dawg

It was sad seeing the Dawgs go out the way they did. I was shocked at the fight that broke out. Its sad that a few players made the whole team look very unsportsman-like. It did take a lot of guts for Roberts to approach the BC team. He is a leader. I dont doubt it one bit that a few more of the other boys would have went as well, if they hadnt been so devastated over the loss. Commend the boys who did stay out of the fight. Dont drag them into the ground for the action of the others.

& if someone wants to talk about the LC players running their mouths, I am sure that the BC players are just as guilty. And how about when the fight was going on, I saw many of the BC fans in the stands applauding.. & their flag was being help up the whole time, like they were being supportive for the fight. Hmm.. not only did a few of the LC players showed themselves during the fight.. Im thinking some part of BC did too.. Confusedhh:

If Billy is really leaving then I would like to say thank you coach for every thing you have tried to do for our boys I know that some times the cards just doesn't fall our way . Now as for getting a new coach weather LC stays in house and gets one or if they go out and get one IMO I really don't think we will see this program back on top until we see a change in the administration I don't think it will matter who we get until it changes at the top things will stay the same at the bottom . It's bad when a head coach has to have former players on the side line to help him when what he needs is real coaches that get paid to do it not volunteers don't get me wrong I have nothing against any of these guys I think it's great that they are giving their time to try and help but we need coaches that have been to and have played and/or studied at the next level that has been taught by higher knowledgeable coaches . Just getting a head coach is just the start the administration has to support him when he ask for help like getting some more quality assistance coaches . And the money has to be there also so the coaches can take the kids to camp in the summer time like the other schools do I am talking about the hole team for a week camp like Chucke and Mcpeek did because these was fun camps and the kids loved them the last real camp we went to was in Tennessee the last year Mcpeek was here . I think Billy took them to morehead his first year he was here for about two days . We have to make if fun for the kids so they will want to give up their summer's because more than anything we need the kids to come out and play I remember when LC would have around 60 kids on the side lines not counting the freshmen . All of this is just my own opinion I would just love to see us get back on top .Hopefully it will start next year .
