12-0 Breathitt County @ 11-1 Russell
I see Russell winning this game and going on to play at the CAM for round 2, cause as the good man up stairs said revenge is our's. and oh how sweet it will be.

Russell 31

Bobcats 28
GOREDDEVILS Wrote:He was the qb last 3 years at Western and had over 2100 yards passing last year and close to 2000 the previous 2 years. I think he graduated now though.

Actually that Haddix was a four year starter at Western. He was/is 6'1" about 225-240. Justin is also helping coach the bobcats this year.
Look at this,,, Russell winning the state played a an OT game and won by a blocked kick, was beaten one time in the regular season and was thought to never make it past the 3rd round of the playoffs... NOW you have a Devils team that has won a close game in OT by knocking down a pass to seal the game, lost by 1 point in regular season and is NOT suppose to make it past the 3rd round ( as some might say). I dont know but history repeats itself at times and this is set up to be the same scenerio. Just a thought.

History is a thing of the past. So don't count on past experiences here. Especially it being playoffs. I think that Breathitt will be dominant on offense and disciplined enough on defense to make some big stops when they need too. Breathitt by 2+ touchdowns.

Also, Ft. Cambell was ranked #1 in the pole for the entire season and supposed to be unbeatable by the way they were blowing teams out. As all the Red Devil nation know they lost in the semi-state.
I'm taking Russell by 2 td's.

If Russells offense is on the field eating up the clock that means breathitts offense will be on the sideline.Smile

I think this will be the case again this week, Russell is good at limiting possessions, so Breathitt is not gonna go off for 5 or 6 TD's. I'm very interested in seeing if Breathitt can stop Russell, they have a multitude of great backs and receivers, most complete offense Ive seen in awhile at Russell, although they don't have a Clark or Gross, all 4 of the backs are not far behind, and Clark and Gross didn't have quite the supporting cast around them, as you see Jones with now. I think that will be huge come Friday. Hopefully Russell can pull off a couple of turnovers, or good stops, and this one should be fun to watch. I hope the cold weather doesn't keep people @ home, they will be missing an instant classic.
GOREDDEVILS Wrote:We did but he just scrambled away and had all day to pass.We could never fully get pressure on haddix.I don't think we even got close to sacking him all game. Like the td to tie that game up and send it to ot on the deep ball he had all day back there to find the guy.

I could be wrong but I thought Henry Butler #1 got to him on two occations and dropped him for losses. Hey I'll bet you have not heard that name in a while.

Breathitt's offense doesn't need a lot of time to put points on the board . This offense is capable of scoring on every snap and from any were on the field . This will be the best team Russell will have seen all year and they will need to play their best game of the year to win this one . But for either team it will end at the Cam. Good luck to both and hope every one stays injury free.
This game may become the lowest point scoring game for both teams this year, because for one I believe Russell will run the WING-T to perfection by running those LOOOOOONG time consuming drives that they are known for, which by the way is the best defense again a passing offense.

I didn't see anyone breathitt played that could beat Russell yes even lca.Russell would own lca just like breathitt did. So this will be the best offense that breathitt has seen all year.Everyone seems pretty healthy unlike earlier on in the season.
Will there be anyone giving updates of this game Friday night? I have to work at the radio station for a Campbellsville University Basketball Game and will not be able to listen, so I will have to depend on updates on this page. In all seriousness, this game will be closely contested and the winner will probably lose to Belfry IMO. I do not expect the score to be more than 10 points in either teams favor.

Breathitt had a VERY weak schedule, that is obvious. They are a good team, and how they come out and play against a better than average Russell team will show what kind of team they really are, because they really have played no one of Russell's strength all year.

Hope Russell wins. Should be a very good game.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned "The Turkey Factor".

Will the amount of turkey that these 2 teams eat tomorrow have an effect on the outcome on Friday. Smile

Traveling with a full belly of Baked, smoked and deep fried fowl could make for a long night. All those twists and turns out of Jackson can't be a good thing. :turnbad:

Not to mention all the ham and "Deviled" eggs.:devilflam

Don't know about the Breathitt side, but the Russell staff might out eat the team. Better hope they dont fall asleep with all that tryptophan in their system.

ONE MORE DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Weather looks to be in the advantage for RUSSELL!!!!

You are exactly right. The only test Breathitt had was Prestonsburg. Coach Holcomb, I am sure, is aware of what his Cats are up against. Very good Russell bunch.
ill take the red devils in this one
These 2 teams both have rich football traditions. Russell has more history than Breathitt Co but they(Breathitt Co) know how to win big games.

Breathitt Co made alot of noise in the late 1990's and haven't made a big run in 5 years. They will come ready to play. Do not take them lightly.

Breathitt Co leads the series 6 wins to Russell's 5 wins.

8 of those games were in the play-offs. Russell won 4 Breathitt Co won 4.

The first meeting was in 1978 and Russell beat Breathitt in the 1st round 27-6 on their way to Ivan's 1st State Title.

1978- Russell 27 Breathitt Co 06
1982- Russell 20 Breathitt Co 00
1983- Russell 07 Breathitt Co 06
1988- Russell 13 Breathitt Co 08
1989- Russell 18 Breathitt Co 21
1995- Russell 06 Breathitt Co 35
1996- Russell 14 Breathitt Co 20
2002- Russell 27 Breathitt Co 28 OT

If Russell comes out fired up and stays up this will be another game that people will be talking about for the next 10 years.

This has been a great series and Russell needs to even up the over all series and pull ahead in the play-off series tomorrow. :redboxer:
So in your opinion if Russell wins the toss does Russell "deffer" the coin toss or take it? We all know that who will have the ball first controls the clock to start. Could be crucial to this game.
RUSSELL RED DEVILS
I think you deffer and see if you can stop them early. If you can, they will have to abandon their game plan eventually. Stop the shovel pass and the slant and Breathitt Co is in trouble.

Then let the Russell Offense do it's thing.
You deffer
Watched some game film today. The Fugate boys look real good, especially the TB, he's big, gonna have to make sure we wrap him up. The schedule could make a huge difference, even though Russell's wasn't that tough, its 5 times tougher than Breathitt's. I think Lewis might be able to beat some of those teams. I cant believe Estill lead the state in rushing, that'd be like me leading the NFL in interceptions. Breathitt looks tough on offense, real tough. I think if we can shut down the TB and hold him under 100yds for the night, we have a great chance. Breathitt will have to make some changes on D to stop the Devils. They were only putting 7 in the box on Estill who is a straight up the middle running team, they do that against Russell, and it will be a long night for the Bobcats. I also think Russell has a major advantage in the speed department, and a somewhat slight advantage in size on the line.
82,83 were good years, We beat Breathitt and Belfry in those years. I remember the flood game at Belfry very well. 8 orange pylons and that was it. You could not even see the numbers after warmups...........Great time for us old timers.......hasbeens........well some of us were never was's.....I raise my hands.....

Yes, great statements. But what are we going to do when it comes to the pass? Putting pressure on the QB can be a "catch 22". We blitz too much then he throws. We are without someone in the defensive back area. The slants kill us when we play too deep. But if we are too close then we are burned on the long ball. We have a great chance to beat a very good team. When we come out in the first half we NEED TO COME OUT!!! If someone makes a good play let them know, let the whole stadium know! You guys are State potetials! Most of all ....you have to want it! AS A TEAM!
