GREAT SEASON COUGARS!!! nuthin to feel bad about...i mean my god, yall played one of the top 3 teams in the state.... I was pullin for ya fellas....get ready for next season---congrats highlands

The Cougars made Highlands step up after the 1st quarter. After that Highlands controlled all aspects of the game. But during that first quarter Letcher was right there playing with them. Highlands just had LCC overmatched. I daresay when these two meet again on down the road (and they will many times) Letcher will be up to the task. As for Highlands this year though, The playing environment there is second to none. Same as the football team. These players, coaches, and fans are a class act and deserve everything they get this year. I will be pulling for them on that cold day at the Pizza Box

Why would that be? His team had a GREAT year. Last night they were outmatched, but that woould be no reason to throw him under the bus. He has a good thing going, why start over?

No Blau Vogel,..has nothing to do with the season he had. Just some rumors that think Coach Howard is wanting to step down. Coach Howard wanted to get this program started and headed in the right direction as he has done so and more. If this was his last game, I would like to say that it has been great watching and learning from to me, 1 of the top 3 coaches to ever coach in the state of Kentucky! An idol and an icon and a proven winner! Congrats Highlands on the win, and LCC, you see what a classy program is in Highlands..that should be your goal for the future to achieve success and to have high standards set year in and year out. Just a great job guys!

If it is his choice, that is great. Hopefully, some of his disciples will take over and keep the ship headed in the direction Coach Howard has aimed it. I am sure they would like to have Highlands pay them a visit next November.

IMO Howard needs one or two more years to keep this tradition up before he will step down. He's going to be leaving it in good hands, But, I dont think he will do so without assurance that the program is still heading in the right direction. But like Vogel said, If that is his decision thats great. Hes a living legend and a dear personel friend to me.

Congrats to LCC on a fine season. Nothing to be ashamed about losing to Highlands, same thing would have happened to any mountain team that went up there to face that bunch.
#18
Nice Season Cougars! If Howard steps down who would be the front runner for the job?? Congrats Highlands.

Little Howard ? Wink

Yeah the best candidate would definently be Ben Howard. If im not seriousley mistaken I think i remember Hillard telling me personally that when he did decide to step down (whenever that may be) Ben would be the one to grab the reigns. Which i think would be very interesting. I would be interested to see who he got to run the defence and such. Im not for sure but i just dont think that the old smashmouth style of coach thomas would mesh well with the "modern" ideals for Ben.

I have heard some rumors about Little Howard moving to Lexington, maybe a college position????? Don't know. I would be very suprised if their were any changes next year. I hate to see the program have to go through a major transition, because the next four years could be the best in letcher co. for quite a while. It was great attending play off games in Letcher Co again.

I was at this game and was very impressed with Highlands. I expect Lincoln to give them a good game but Highlands to prevail.

On to Letcher. I was very impressed with their kids and coaches. Very innovative play calling: highlands just had the athletes to stop it. The Letcher kids played their hearts out and played hard clean football ( 1 kid got a little chippy and questionable, but other than that it was a clean game). I was very impressed with Banks. He'll be very good next year. Hope we meet up next year at their place: I hear its great.

Congrats Cougers. Keep it going Highlands.

Same rumors that were passed around before he became a coach in Pike County. Mark it down Ben is the next Letcher County Central coach.

Where did he coach in Pike County?
#25
saw it coming...congrats highlands
#26
he was hired as shelby valley's coach I think
#27
Congrats on Lcc's season Highland's is a tough place for anyone to play, and good luck next year
#28
I was impressed by Highlands, although I think that LCC can close the gap some during the off season. Running game was stopped by Highlands, butt LCC was fairly successful through the air. Banks was 18 for 23 for 139. If LCC works hard---they can get to the level that Highlands has maintained for several years. Man---they sre quick and strong. They also pursue the ball as well as any team you will ever see play.
#29
Are you calling one of the top rated teams in the state cheerleaders?
