Belfry 62 Breathitt County 28

Yeah Ryan Allen is #3

The Fugates are (#28 Channing,#12 Colby)

Yeah, that was the Allen kid. He had quite a few licks laid on him last night. John drilled him twice, then a couple plays later on one of their scoring drives he caught one over the middle and immediately assumed the fetal position. I give him credit though, he knew he was about to get nailed but he made the catch anyway! Takes a good player to make a play like that when he knows he's going to pay for it. It was still funny though that he balled up in anticipation of the hit Tongue

All I stated is that I am glad there are some legit programs that still have classy head coaches. Holcomb was never provoked until he started his tirade, then the fans let him know what they thought about it.

And I stated that I can almost guarantee that the other two coaches have acted a fool sometime in their career. Have known Haywood since his years at Prestonsburg, so for a while. Not going to get into a you said this or that with you. I know what I saw last night, and how the fans and announcer were acting. That my friend is ILLEGITIMATE! Coach Haywood is a great coach and has always been good to compete against. Being a head coach in high school football will turn PRIESTS into SINNERS if you have any concern for your kids or the ones you are playing against.

As far as I know Russells coaches do not drink on the field or eat ham sandwiches while they coach. Granted Morris is a FREAK sometimes but after watching our defense this year he had every reason to be a FREAK< drink a beer and eat a ham sanwich. Granted at the end our boys came along way and played 100% improvement on the D side.
I think I will have a ham sandwich. no beer as it might affect my slender body image.
Now that is funny right there!!!!!!!

I saw this game being one sided, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. Like I said in the pre-game post I'm not sure if anyone in AAA can hang with the Pirates. Congrads to the state's second winningest coach ever. Good luck to the entire Pond Creek nation at Louisville next week.

Belfry_99 Wrote:I guess he was frustrated that his team was getting blown out in a state semi final game. My biggest deal with his display is that the game was well over and there as nothing his tirade was going to about it...I am so glad that there are some legit programs in eastern kentucky, such as Russell and Belfry who have coaches that understand what class is and know how to maintain their composure.

Legit programs not including Breathitt? If I'm not mistaking, doesn't Breathitt currently have more state titles than either one (Belfry has a good chance to tie Breathitt next week)? The tirade was about the ball being marked in the wong position, which it was marked 4 yards farther back. Also maybe he was frustrated that the coaching staff from Belfry actually accepted the penalty, instead of taking the play (an incomplete pass which would have resulted in 4th and 12). The score was 55-13 at that point, not like taking the penalty could determine the outcome of the game.

I never herd any Belfry fans or the announcer taunting anyone... We all show class, an everyone knows it... It was classless what Breahtitts coach did, the call was not wrong, it was marked off 15 yards exactly from where the Breathitt runner was hurt at, that was where his forward progress was stopped at...

I am definitely looking foward to the trip to Louisville next Friday as the mighty Pirates go for their 3rd State Title !!!!

Pirates, the Pond Creek Nation wil show up in full force to support you, We love ya guys !!!

Let's go to the house that Pizza built and bring one back home to the mountains and for Mr. Phillips...

He's a cheerleader on the mic and it needs to stop.

And I am a Belfry fan.

I really thought it was gonna be a good game with the way things where going in the first half, but Breathitt made some mental mistakes and it really cost them, but everything went right for the Pirates with about 1 minute left in the second quarter, and again the Pirates took complete control of the game in the second... Congrats Pirates!

Congrats Belfry and good luck

CONGRATS Belfry, good luck at Papa Johns.

They did mark it off 15 yards, from the spot of the foul. It should have been 10 yards from the spot of the foul. Holding is a 10 yard penalty from the spot of the foul. Belfry was classy for the most part, but there were moments when both teams showed little class.

I am a Belfry fan...and I strongly disagree. We have a top notch, First Class program. We simply don't need that kind of Rah Rah from a PA announcer. Mr. Phillips was one classy individual behind the mic......and we as fans should demand nothing less. Last night was definitely in poor taste. I've been around the program alot of years....and last night was embarassing.

Me too. Let the fans and the cheerleaders do the cheering.Cut him some slack though. He is still new at it and does a good job other than that.Remember he is being compared to the consummate P.A. announcer and one of the all time greatest to ever step to the mike. Those are big shoes to fill to begin with. Just like stepping into Cawood Ledfords shoes almost.

I agree with you... he will ultimately improve and there is no problem with being excited and SLIGHTLY, key word, SLIGHTLY biased when you are the PA Man. I even asked some of the fans who sit with me, "When did we go to a WWE Wrestling match?" Cause that is what it felt like.

The reaosn that WXCC and EKB does such a great job broadcasting Belfry games is because they show some excitemment, but by and large they stay unbiased and professional. This should be the same approach a PA man takes.

I am sure word will get around and he will make necessary improvements by next year.

I haven't commented on here about the Holcomb situation, so here it is: `I have no problem with what Holcomb was doing. He wasn't taunting Belfry fnas, players, coaches, or anyone... it was a gripe he had with an official and he was simply overselling everything in an effort to pump up his team that was being embarassed. When you are a coach you look for little posiitves in the darkest situations, I have a feeling Holcomb was trying to rally his troops to make the game respectable and to create a little bit of momentum going into the offseason. what Holcomb did was the football equivolant of a hbasketball coach purposely getting a technical foul when hsi team is down to put some energy and focus back in their team.

We as Pirate fans have to remember that Haywood himself has been fired up before, not very often, but it has happened.

As for the Belfry fans taunting an injured player? I can't see how it would have happened. I have watched the replay twice and after Varney laid the vicous hit on #3 the entire stadium gave the standard "OOOOOhhhhhhh", the kid then gets up, stumbles and leaves the field as the PA man makes comment of the hard hit and encourages support for the defense. The referees blew the whistle, but the player went to his sideline under his own power. If you don't think people will comment ona hit like that you are wrong, Breathitt fans had no problem getting fired up when they hit Varney earleir in the game on a punt return (a play that he actually broke the tackle and gained three extra yards), IMO there was nothing controversial there at all.

Again, I totally agree!!! Very well put on every account.

I agree with you.I have never seen any fans at all that I can say I thought were glad a kid was hurt. The play in question was just a big hit and got a big response.Would have been the same way had it been against us.As far as the announcer I think with time he'll find his own nitche so to speak and be a great one.Just needs time.He certainly has the voice for it.

PA announcers, regardless of the school, should do what a PA announcer is supposed to do....announce the game. I applaud the enthusiasm, but when your voice is "the" voice most heard of all the home team's fans, common sense would tell you to be as professional as possible.

I really don't think it is a big deal. The PA man is a good guy, and I don't think he meant anything by it, like everyone else, you live and learn.

I didn't hear taunting by the announcer either. I thought I had missed something, but I never heard any such thing? What did he supposedly say to "taunt"?

I LOVE Glenn Earnest's new name tho...."Glenn - Kick it to the Southside Mall - Earnest"...now THAT's funny!!!! Smile

It is football people! Get ready for hard hits...especially when you play against Belfry!

Well I personally give my respect to the pirates but u can bet we will be back next year really in the long un within the next 2 years i see us breathitt playing for the title. I mean we are a young team after all. The only thing that really hurt about the loss is that we had a great team and a great senior class and it just hurts to see them go out like that. Well anyway congrads to u belfry but next year we are coming back to rock the concrete nation!!!

But kyr450 is a cheerleader, and a bad one, and a bad DJ, and a bad gas-man, and a bad volunteer fireman, and he brushes his teeth the wrong way.Big Grin

This post makes zero sense...
