Nevada High School Player Commits without being offered a scholarship
#1
Just saw this on the front page of the sports in the New York Times. Apparently a kid from Nevada held a press conference announcing he would attend Cal the other day. The thing about it is that he was never offered a scholarship or was contacted by the school. When interviewed he said Cal really sold him on the school. The final decision was down to Cal and Oregon, with Oklahoma on the outside looking in. When representatives from those schools were contacted they said they never even heard of the kid. I guess he was trying to pull an OJ Mayo.

And I always thought that kids verbally commiting to play at universities without an offer was funny, but this is hillarious!
Isn't there a kid playing basketball somewhere here in Ky, that commited to UK, without an offer, and he was only like a Soph. and people act as if he was heavily recruited? even now, when his name is mentioned in sports, they say....so n so whom has verbilly commited to UK......It just cracks me up.

Is that the kid from Rose Hill, the Euton or OOTEN kid..????
Romans 14:11
It is written: " 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.' "

No hes committed this year before his Sophmore season, but I do agree it is really stupid to committ somewhere before your senior season, but you have to realize every boy that grows up in Kentucky wants to play for the Cats

This thread isn't about Rose Hill or Euton.

My question did the alleged recruit dupe everyone or was he duped by a recruiting imposter.

Didn't say it was about R.H. or Euton. But the article talks about kids making verbals without offers, I just think that is stupid. (for lack of better words) Personally, I think the kid got caught up in watching those McDonalds All-Americans doing this thing with the hats and ended up making a fool of himself! I mean....what recruiter is out there just loaning money to kids for nothing? Makes less sense than a kid saying I am going to UK and play basketball wether they want me or not! Everyone knows not even an invite to walk-on was made.

I'm assuming he duped everyone. He is only a 2 star recruit according to rivals.com. Why would someone do this if they haven't even talked to the head coach or took any official visits.

Well.....6'4" over 300 lbs. I'd say the lard *** was trying to get a date with a cheerleader.

Jay Mariotti just reported it was indeed a fake recruiter who had fooled the whole family.

Someone did....relax...just trying to keep this one on topic.

Maybe it could be the family trying to take away some of the negitivity surrounding their kid now and the fake recruiter was fabricated just like the press conference. Like PTI said, if you don't have a coach in your living room, no official visit, or even a phone call from the institution you should know something wasn't right.

So....a fake reporter loaned this kid hundreds of dollars? Yeah, right.

What? They got him to help their son through the recruiting process and look at what he did to them. It a was RECRUITER. No idea how you got reporter.

There is an article on this on espn.com...read it earlier. Kinda feel bad for the family and kid in a sense.

This is crarzy how this happened. I can't believe they were that gullible to believe this guy without checking him out a little.

I am sure that they meant recruiter instead of reporter, in fact I am positive.
And by the way....I just read in the paper where the KID said he made the whole thing up! He said he wanted to play D-1 more than anything, and when he realized he wasn't, he made up what he wanted to be reality! LMAO!!!

I just read it as well Guru. I can't believe so many people bought into it and the school allowed it to take place when they admitted that he never recieved any mail from those colleges.

Saw that he fabricated the entire story on ESPN earlier. It actually showed footage from the press conference at the school and the kid had the Oregon and Cal hats on the tabel and picked on. Everything went down like it was the real deal, but having **** for brains will always come back to bite you on the ***....I believe they are looking at criminal charges against the prep athlete.
