only one player from the 15th region...congrats timmy hayes, quite an honor..

yes congrat's Mr. Hayes hope it goes well at louisville for you!!!!!

obviously pitchers have the easiest and most recognizable stats to track
and I guess catcher pop time and put outs would be next as they touch the ball on every pitch...But does anyone know how the position players are rated and if you look at the offensive stats on the coaches web site from last season the top 50 would be hard to pick...also most stats are tracked and reported by coaches , so does the answer that i'm looking for lie more with the coaches reporting the stats to the right people..can anyone shed any light on this ???

i would think it would rank mostly on batting average, fielding percentage, and possibly consider stolen bases and maybe if they've been clocked on 60 times

I would tend to think so but these stats are not posted on the coaches web site. the defensive ones anyway and the offensive stats would tend to indicate
different palyers...do you think that the marketing of players has anything to do with it......should grimm be on this list...he holds a couple of strikeout records at paintsville.

well i do think it has a lot to do with how much the kids name is put out into state...printing up local stats in the big sandy news and then printing stats in the lexington herald or courier journal are a lot different, there are a lot more people who here about the kids from lexington and west of lexington...the market here is far from anything that it needs to be to get some kids recognized....im sure timmy hayes has been to many camps and showcases around the state and out of state for that matter, and i think that has a lot to do with it...when kids go to these showcases there are so many coaches that are there to evaluate their talent that i would say if i was guessing thats where most of the rankings come from, the showcases....and sadly the good showcases are mainly in lexington and louisville...i remember one going on last season during the state tournament at transy, and i know there were over 100 kids there...they get called back after the first day to play in the actualy game against each other, and i would say all the kids that get called back are put on the prospect list and then they are voted on their rankings from there...hayes is one of the top, if not the top catching prospect in the state...and a lot of coaches probably seen that at the showcases and he was put on the list, and well he should definetely be on that list i think, great and talented kid...

That would be the try-outs for Jody Hamilton's Junior Kentucky All Star team.

no i swear it was a showcase i went over there and watched it while i was staying in lexington...i seen the hayes boy there as well as cyrus...and on the final day they played a scrimmage against each other the ones that got called back...there were quite a few college coaches there...does jody call it a showcase?

Yeah it's tryouts. There are a lot of college coaches and some pro scouts that attend. The first day they they eliminate several players and then invite say 25 back for the second day. Then a final cut is made to I think around 18 players.

It is run just like a showcase on the first day with pro style workouts and they do scrimmage on the second day.

Any high school junior can attend. You just have to send an entrance fee in.

ahh well then you are exactly right thats how it went....they kept 25 for the scrimmage and if i remember right cyrus and hayes both made it for the scrimmage, do you know if either of them were on jody's team?

Timmy may have very well been, but I dont think that Cyrus was on it. I was ill during this years event, and did not attend. But I have been there before.
