Also you are right about the field. They have tried quite a few times to get it to grow in better. I really hope it is done right and works this time.

i agree with you that mcglone never that i know of cussed his players..however, i'm also telling the truth that players cussed him and he put up with it because they were the "stars"...but i think i've exhausted myself and everyone on here with my opinion about this one...I'm just happy that I was able to voice an opinion. You can choose to defend him as your right. And thats fine. But I just feel for those students who don't get the same chances the you may have. I was also in the school after I graduated highschool and heard similar stories as mine. Its just no one else wanted to be teh one to give an alternate opinion of McGlone. I have and I am happy with that. And I won't talk again about it unless someone else wants to message me privately about the matter. I'm just glad that I said soemthing about a situation which isn't a new one and many want to dismiss and overlook because they may not have experienced the same things. It doesn't mean that it didn't happen to myself and my teammates, nor does it mean that it doesn't happen now.
Thanks though for listening.
And if you're really interested in such matters seek out a Facebook group entitlred "you know you went to russell if..." see if things that I have said are not confirmed.

Have they ever had the soil tested to see if that is the problem?

If the admins will finally give in to putting down some field turf at Ashland, you and I can personally transfer the Ashland Bermuda to Russell. It's a great surface, but we have to take a big step to stop the drainage problems.

i dont want to sound rude but i really hope people reading your posts do not rely on "myspace" and "facebook" to base their opinions on....ivan is a hall of fame coach who has put in time and dedication to make russell an elite program in the state of kentucky....i know so many people who played for ivan and had him in class...i have heard his classes are not the hardest up there, but his intelligience on a football should never be questioned, he has more than proved himself to be one of the elite coaches in the history of high school football and he did it all at the same school...he could have left a few times, but it stuck with it and persevered through everything...he is the reason people west of lexington know who the russell red devils are, and for an ex-player who is still upset over lost playing time to come on here and try to take that away from him is absurd!!!!

Don't place blasphemy like that on Ashland. I've never met a single player, coach, or fan from Ashland that doesn't have the utmost respect for Ivan as a head football coach. Of course it has always been widely speculated and confirmed over and over again from the words of students of Russell that his classroom teachings left much to be desired. Nonetheless, top notch football coach in the opinions of every Ashlander I know.

Tomcats should be proud to have one of theirs in the E/W allstar game.... Great job for Matt.. he should have been the tailback all season...ANYWAY- Rivalries are fun and produce great games...At least our coach is not involved in illegal activities...read the papers about other coaches and teachers..I am thankful for the quality of CHARACTER in our school.

You are not the only person that feels this way. There was someone I played with that feels the same way. He was also beat out "rightfully" at his position. He also developed an attitude toward Coach McGlone that he too carried into the classroom. For most athletes it is hard to except that they are not as good as they think they are. I do think this site will help you with the therapy you need, and its free......
Anyone that truly knows Coach McGlone as a coach, a teacher and as a person, knows this is all a bunch of crap.

No, no. I didn't get kicked off. And if you had read the whole thread (those of you saying I was wrong in my OPINIONS) would realize that many of the things you have responded to are already mentioned above. First, in my last post I said I'd be dropping the issue unless someone wanted to discuss the matter privately because I felt like it was only an opinion of mine and that it needed to be voiced. And of course here I am lieing since I've posted it again (but I'm gonna try not to discuss the actual issues further). No matter if I happened to get to play or not, that has nothing to do with the in class performance of McGlone nor the way he let his players treat him. All I can say is that you can speculate all you want about what kind of athlete I was or wasn't, that doesn't change what I saw happen on the field, in the huddle and in practice. Unless you were there you wouldn't know would you? Also, if you read my previous posts you'll see the reason I brought it up in this conversation about the Russell field. Oh, and I never was trying to imply anything on myspace except for the attitude towards what McGlone does in class. So if I misspoke about that I apologize. Even though I've given the impression that somehow my LIFE was affected by this, it really wasn't in the long run. But my impression of what a rolemodel should be and a leader should be at THAT TIME in my life was definitely questionable in part by this. In my life (not football life,,,I did play other sports as well) these things don't mean much. I just wanted to bring down the notch a bit that McGlone isn't the all-powerful that many say he is. I think an earlier post that said it is "blasphemous" is interesting, even though I'm sure they weren't being too serious. But people really do seem to think this about the guy and it just wasn't my experience. Thats really what I wanted to get across. And sense people wanted to say what I said was "absurd" and "a bunch of crap" on here, I felt it was finally enough to atleast restate my main points again, since I said I wouldn't unless through a PM and no one PM'd me. And regardless I'd still never trade Russell for Ashland. I'm a Ph.D. student not currently living in KY now at all and I miss it dearly. Regardless, of my opinion of a FOOTBALL coach, I still love Russell.

well heres the deal...your aloud to voice your opinons as well as we are aloud to voice ours...and apparently your the only one with a negative attitude towards coach mcglone...coach mcGlone is a living legend and should be treated like one...it is very obvious to everyone that has replied to your senseless comment that your experience was based mainly on the football field and you could have really cared less about the classroom you just carried that attitude into the classroom...while it was well known his classroom's were not winning any awards it has nothing to do with what people discuss on this forum and that is high school football...and as far as high school football goes he is among the best, and doesn't deserve disrespect that you have given him...he has put russell on the map and brought unbelievable excitment to the town and community....your hard feelings towards him doesn't do anything but put a negative comment on everything you say from here on out, and i promise you no one will change their opinion of him based on what you say, because russell people are smart enough to know what they here something that just flat out isn't true ....so try getting over yourself and try to get over the playing time you might have lost....and to be honest with the attitude ive seen from you already and dont even know you....i wouldn't have played you either...

Thats a fair enough reply I suppose. Although, you'e facts are wrong. I never had McGlone in class myself. I am an educator myself however and based my opinions on the classes that I observed. Therefore, it was impossible for me to have carried any attitudes into his class, because he wasn't directly an instructor of mine. I was an honors student. I'm not sure how my attitude ten years later has anything to do with my opinion ten years later. I received rewards from McGlone himself for my play. In fact, I never said that I didn't get playing time. Unless I remember incorrectly. I also never asked anyone to change their opinion. I wouldn't think that would be possible. That was my point. If you knew me personally, you would know that my intentions were good. If you knew me personally you'd also know that I am well respected in the community back home and one of the better athletes to have ever come out of Russell. Did I play college ball? No. I chose an academic path in my life that I thoroughly enjoy. I just find it really funny that you have taken such offense to a comment about a coach. And that you haven't even apparently read all of my comments because you assume a lot of stuff I've said that I didn't actually say. I should "try getting over" myself? Because I expressed an opinion about a football player from the viewpoint of ten years later, as a married man, a father and a community leader? That's an interesting judgment you've made about someone that you dont' know. I made a judgment about someone I do know personally. That sounds like someone who has the right to judge someone's attitude? Hmm..

look i could care less about anything else you have to say because you just admitted you didn't even have him in class, so right off the bat your credibility went out the window...you talked so passionately about his educating skills that you know nothing about, and you said it best you have to be around to have an opinion, so obviously you shouldn't have an opinion on his education skills...and as for coaching im done arguing about that because he has more than proven himself in the sports world for you to try and belittle him and disrespect him...so thanks for your opinion, but im just done with it...you exhaust me im sorry...
02-26-2008, 11:54 PM
i said i didn't have him as an instructor...i observed him professionally...i am a trained educator...therefore my credibility is more thans yours...because i've been in his class and don't remember you saying you had...its impossible to have a fair argument if you can't read...whether you believe my opinion is credible or not is a null point...because nothing you said has disproven that...and you obviously must care about what i say because you keep replying to me and bringing the subject back up when i said i wouldn't discuss it unless someone wanted to privately..since i was exhausting myself as well as you...regardless..i feel no regret giving my opinions because mcglone is a public figure, with his wages paid by my tax dollars as well as yours..therefore, my critique is just that, a critique...i have not belittled him once...but alas, you don't read the posts that you respond to anyway...and you dont' care because you keep bringing the subject back up...right?

okay im sorry i had no idea i was in the presence of greatness since your a trained educator and your credibility is so much higher than everyone elses...you have no idea what i do for a living and ive been around long enough to know that people who make rediculus, egotistical, arrogant comments like the one you just made doesn't deserve my time...so you want to stop talking about then stop...im done...i honestly have nothing else to say on the subject, i respect your opinion, and i will just end it by saying i hope you are wrong about coach McGlone...
