What are some of the top 40 times for players and positions this year? Any linemen or LB's with some sub 4.8's out there?

Powell's fastest player, Aaron Elkins, runs a 4.65 and plays running back and corner.

LCC's middle linebacker (Frazier) ran a 4.7 at the end of the season last year, I'm not sure the accurate time now, but I'm sure it's close this year also.

Drew Abrams of Russells fastest time was a 4.65

This will be interesting to hear

Prestonsburg fastest time was runningback Allen Craynon, who ran a 4.6 forty.

I had him at 4.52 on the timer... But that is again is just my timer.

So factoring in Russell bias it actually tanslates to a 5.0?

Thats good to hear, he must have picked up a couple of steps in the offseason.
Dave and I ran some hand timed 40's. So those are not 100% accurate but they are close. Dave was just under 4.6 and I was at 4.8, and pleasently surprised. I was expecting to be around 5.0. I feel about 4 steps slower than I used to be. 4.8 at 290lbs isn't too bad though.
Russell should be the quickest team on the field this year in all of their games. It seems the entire backfield runs under 4.6. That's preseason. I'm assuming Jones and Cordle are just as fast, if not faster having seen them play.

I guess you are talking about Travis Jones right??? And you are correct, it just seems like people are talking up this team if you are not from around here,, but the truth of the matter is, this team is fast, strong and powerful. This team overall is as talented as the 2002 team but has the opportunity of the 2005 team with the senior leadership of the 2006 team. Senior loaded and senior strong. 3A state power lifting champs says alot for these boys and yes I agree, this could be a very nice year for the team.
OH and the 40 times...... Yes they are hand held and subject to human error but it is good that they are all sub 4.6.. OH and Cordle is prolly faster than all of them inthe backfield,,,,prolly....

I think the 02 was quite a bit bigger and stronger, also probably be better on D than this year's squad. Which being behind them is not so bad. This year's team has something that team doesn't have however. That is the ability to get offensive production from 5+ guys on the field. 02 was pretty much limited in a soph. back in Gross, and Gabbard at QB. This team has so many options. None of them may be the greatest of all time, however they all excel where the others lack. Should be a fun season to watch anyways.

I think Powells' fastest lineman was in the 5.1 - 5.3 range. I will find out & get back to you.

I would assume Belfry's fastest guys would be Lovern, Varney, Elkins, Lee - in that order.
Not too sure any of those guys are that fast though.

4.6's and 4.7's is still solid speed for a HS HB, let alone an entire backfield.

Just based on judging their speed from others I have seen before... this is STRICTLY A GUESS.
Varney- Mid 4.6
Lovern- Mid to Upper 4.6
Elkins- 4.7
Lee- 4.8

Not at all. That is pretty great.

Powell's fastest hand timed 40 was turned in by A. Elkins RB (4.62), T. Hardy RB (4.68), J. Rose RB (4.73), D. Crow WR (4.71), J. Barron WR (4.72), W. Branham WR (4.98), B. Rice QB (4.90), T. Brewer FB (5.01). We had a couple of more RB's that ran sub 4.8's but they quit on us.

I would have guessed Bates was the fastest. I hate that he will probably miss most of the season. I would have thought he may have flirted with breaking 4.5.

Sheldon Clarks freshman Kristian Skyles ran a 4.7

Russell has without a doubt the fastest backfield around here.

Harlan Co. Bears
Gilliam- RB/DB 4.5 maybe the fastest player in the mountains
Smith- WR/DB 4.6
Simmons- WR/DB 4.6
Fields- WR/DB 4.7
Clark- RB/LB 4.7
Green RB/DB 4.8
Harlan Co. may have the most team speed in the mountains this year.

Is that Chicago Bears or Harlan County Bears? A 4.5 and two 4.6 on a mountain school. I don't know if I have ever seen it.

The fastest player in the NFL draft two years ago ran a 4.4, so if anyone around here can almost catch him we will see a lot of people go pro.

Maynard- Educated guess from seeing him play (he was probably faster than Howard but I erred on the side of caution)

This season UK has two players that ran under 4.3 in the 40.Derrick Lock ran a 4.25, and Alphonso Smith ran a 4.27.Locke and Smith are considered to have world class speed,in fact Locke was a NCAA freshmen ALL AMERICAN in track and field. To put this into prespective Micah Johnson, a top 10 player in the nation coming out of high school ,ran a 4.56 at Kentucky pro day this season. In eastern Kentucky anyone that runs a 4.7 or better is an absolute burner, with the ability to be a college athelete if they have any skills at all.Alot of times our local coaches are a little off on the old stopwatch just to build confidence for their teams and thats OK but sometimes the times that are thrown out there are just insane. If any team out ther has a bunch of players running under 4.7s I guess theres a good chance we will see them in LOUISVILLE this season!!!!!!

I have 4, 6th graders with 5.8-5.9 speed in the 40 this year.
