all i can say is keep trying to throw the ball and that running it from shotgun.... coach mccoy needs to get some guts about him and go back to his bone offense he had jordan howard in 06 and 07 now he has jostan helton for 08 and 09 make something about it let him get behind that big fullback they got now and let them run over ppl ......because what i have seen magoffin has a very good line this yr probably the best in yrs ... magoffin in the last 5 yrs that i know is not fancy line that ball up and tell them to stop you it seem to do just fine last yr ..
09-13-2008, 10:37 AM
Congrats Hawks!
09-13-2008, 01:09 PM
Jordan Howard Was a 6'1" fullback that could pick up at least three yards every time he touched the ball. Jostin Helton is a 5'8" tailback that hasn't played eight full quarters in three games because of being hurt. The offence seems to be apples and oranges from last year because the players are. Just my observation anyway.

That was just to reply to 15th fan's post!

You need to get some guts about you and go tell Coach McCoy yourself instead of posting negative comments behind an anonymous name....
09-14-2008, 12:51 PM
I'm not saying anything bout coach McCoy..and I HAVE told him he will not listen to anything but what coach Grayson Smith tells him....which is a BIG mistake...he needs to go back to what his bread and butter is, the bone offense not the spread...which I HAVE TOLD him several times....oh and by the way Jordan Howard was just a "5'10" fullback.

I'm pretty sure I can remember how Magoffin looked the first year running the BONE! LOL
It wouldn't have made any change in the outcome of the ballgames this year except for maybe time off the clock. I don't think you can make up a 21 or even a 14 point deficite with the bone. I know you can put up 21 points in a very few plays and short time in the spread so your never out of the game!
You just need to give the coaching staff enough time to teach these young kids the offence and TRY to keep the negativity to your self. That's not helping anyone, deffinately not helping a young teams confidence!

Congrats Pike Central. Keep working Magoffin.

goms 33 these kids know what they can do and they have allready learn about the bone so why change the offense that they are use to. if these kids read this post they will probably agree with me.

Good job guys. Seems like Mccoy is turning this program around. Rome wasn't built in a day
09-15-2008, 01:06 AM
Considering where McCoy has brought the entire program at Magoffin since he came on board I find it hard for anyone to second guess his offensive philosophy.

Why is it such a big mistake to listen to what Grayson Smith has to say?
What big major university did you play for, if have such a awesome resume at coaching football and like Magoffin County come on down to the football building and send it in. With your infinite knowledge and wisdom of the game i'm sure we can go back to the bone and win the rest of the games this year.

Part of building a program includes increasing the numbers. The "spread O" is fun, new, and exciting. At times it can exploit good defenses by slowing them down and forcing them to cover and respect everyone. It also gets kids excited about the game of football. If coach Mccoy over in Magoffin Co. has gone to some type of spread then he obviously feels it will ultimately pay off in the future. Oh by the way has anyone seen that Middle School bunch Magoffin has coming up, thats probably why they are going to the spread. My sons middle school team played them the other day. Magoffin has some impact freshmen comind into that offense next season. Remember, sometimes you incorporate a system because it will benefit in the future not necessarily because it will put you into the playoffs today.

I agree with 15thfan about everything he said, especially about McCoy listening to Grayson Smith. Just because he played at UK doesnt mean a dang thing. He was on the bench most of his time at UK. It wasnt until he was either a junior or senior that he got to play, and he played defense anyway, so how does that make him a genius to coach offense. Also, just because he played at UK isnt something special, UK has never been a dominant team nor will they ever be. The problem with magoffin co sports is, especially with the football team, they rely too much on former players and current residents to help coach, people that know very little about the sport or didnt play at all. If McCoy would do things his way and bring in some more knowledgeable people, maybe, magoffin would be a better team. I think he is a good coach that will eventually make this team a contender, if he isnt run out of here first by certain people, and if he would run his team and not let anyone influence him or try to tell him how to do it, especially people that were former UK players.
09-15-2008, 12:42 PM
First of all, it looks to me as if the players do enjoy the spread offence more than they did the bone since Magoffin has more kids out this year than they have in the past ten years! Second, I don't think that Coach McCoy would be influenced or intimidated by anyone into doing something that he dosn't want to do. Maybe if the people who think things should be done different would be more supportive of McCoy and his staff Magoffin could KEEP things going in the right direction. Keep it up coach McCoy, I'm on your side! LOL =)

Grayson also played for the Lexington Horseman, I'm sure he knows plenty about the sport before you start dissing his knowledge of football.
Also please enlighten everyone here at BGR how defense does not help you coach offense anyways? I mean if you know all kinds of defenses maybe you know what kind of offensive play you should run against a certain defense !!
15thfan and Braves Fan its obvious you don't know anything about Magoffin County sports and know nothing about Grayson Smith or Chester McCoy, please try to refrain from showing your lack of knowledge about Magoffin County.

Well said!
I was going to respond to the always negative about Magoffin Sports, Braves Fan. But I seen no need to respond to someone who has never played or coached at any level of competition.
Grayson Smith earned a Scholarship from a Divison 1 football team (UK) and played SEC football with the great players that Kentucky had during his time there is a big deal.

The middleschool kids Magoffin will be getting look like they will make a pretty big impact on that team right off the bat. I hope they all stick with football in Magoffin and help McCoy and his staff bring there team to a level it's never been to before.

but Magoffins middle school has ALOT of hold backs they all looked like grown men out there. Pike Centrals JV beat Magoffins by one touchdown
09-24-2008, 12:22 AM
I think that there are alot of teams with holdbacks. Magoffin is finally competing with other schools and all of a sudden it's wrong. LOL I think not!!!!
09-24-2008, 04:25 PM
The only schools with excessive hold backs are Pikeville, Belfry, and Magoffin, that I know of.
