Which rivalry game is the best in Eastern Kentucky?
10-27-2008, 09:38 AM
That is a very, very good question.
Bell vs. Rock used to be up there, but has lost its luster.
Belfry vs. Pburg was a good one, but Derrossett thinks it is best to take some time off
Belfry vs. Pikeville was one of the best in the state, but not so much as of late.
Johnson Central vs. Paintsville... see above
Bell and Corbin won't play each other, neither will Bell vs. Middlesboro
This may sound odd, but Hazard vs. Perry Central may be the most current rivalry that has been the most competitive. Second place being Corbin vs. South Laurel.

That Bell versus Johnson Central scrimmage sure got a lot of talk on a couple of threads...Ha Ha. Seriously, Belfry versus Sheldon Clark is a great rivalry until kickoff. Belfry versus Prestonsburg in 2004 was awesome. One day soon, I think that Harlan County versus Breathitt will be a good one. Breathitt versus Belfry in playoff action is a nice one.:redboxer:

Ashland versus JC and Russell versus Ashland or Raceland may be other good choices, but Russell versus Belfry is my number one pick.

Hazard and Perry Central, from my understanding, will be taking some time off from their rivalry.

Belfry and Pikeville still have the hate and greed every year no matter how bad Belfry has won lately, so IMO these two teams still have the best rivalry

Russell Vs. Ashland Game Is Almost Always A Thriller!!!

They're more towards the north, but i think NCC and Beechwood is one of the best rivalries in the state. Possibly the best, behind St. Xaview and Trinity.

Pikeville vs Hazard is a rivalry too.

I think one that will turn INTO a good rival will be
Harlan County VS Letcher Centeal
& IF Harlan County could schedule Bell I think that would be a good one closer to home

Mama Bear,
Anyway you can get in the ears of the powers to be and have them make a phone call to Belfry to try to set something up? I think for a 2 year contract would be a mutually beneficial for both parties involved.

Hazard wont be playing PCC from what i understand off of WYMT news because it "has gotten too intense and is a danger to the players and fans"...we will only meet in district for soccer, basketball, and baseball only.
I believe Hazard vs Lynn Camp is a very current and VERY heated rivalry that noone really pays much attention to.

Belfry - Sheldon Clark

The Harlan County vs Bell County will be a huge rivalry which will begin next year and will grow stronger every year. I also like Letcher County Central vs Harlan County. This was a barn burner earlier in the season. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!
