Could Beechwood beat Belfry?

blackcat Wrote:Actually you would be surprised at the low fan base Beechwood has. As for the game, I haven't seen Belfry play this year, but Beechwood has an excellent football team and have proved themselves all year.

True about the beechwood fanbase... but you'd be surprised how many random ppl, or fans of other HS teams, would come and watch that game. I'd say it would bring a decent crowd.

According to the Massey ratings Beechwood would beat Belfry 36-19.

Could they beat Belfry? Yes. Could Belfry beat Beechwood? Yes.
Like EKU said one thing Belfry would have in favor is having the numbers and depth to match Beechwood and the size. Would be a great game every time they played because Belfry and Beechwood is usually very similar teams.

If...Then Wrote:Theres no way Coach Haywood would schedule them late in the season because if he was 7-0 he'd be taking a coin toss chance of 7-1

Beechwood comes to play football no matter where their at

(lol and I agree, it could be "Game of the Year" on Pick'em)

have you ever seen a belfry sched.??? every year Belfry sched.'s a tuff team late in the year. just look at the past 2 years JC right at the end. Coach haywood would play any team any time... it's just a question of other teams wanting to play Belfry...

however i think this game if ever played would be a great game. very low scoring def. strug. one for the books

Ratings are a dime a dozen. I see teams win and still dont make the ratings that i think they should. Just who are the "raters"? A 10/0 team playing an 0/10 team odds are the 10/0 team will win. But hey we have seen the biggest upset of all times, at all levels of the game. I have always walked onto the field telling my team, We CAN win this one, if a team has the spirit and heart on a given night...no one knows until the end of the 4th. I always cheer for the underdog. So nothing would please me more than to see an unexpected upset in all of the Class 1A-6A. Go Underdogs!!!

CalPreps.com says that Beechwood would defeat Belfry, 28-24.

The east has 4 teams that can easily make it to the finals.

I'm assuming you meant Beechwood wouldn't beat these teams. With the way that Breathitt handled LCA, you're right, it would be more than 3 touchdowns and the same with Hazard. I can't say much about Raceland, but they seem to be about on the same level as these teams, so I don't think it would be close either.

I say I know 6 or 7 teams will play Belfry question is does Belfry want any?I'm sorry but playing one tough game per year can't help a team get better I wouldn't think.

I am going to have to question some fans knowledge of the game if they think Belfry would beat Beechwood this year, Raceland would beat Belfry this year.Big Grin Big Grin

First of all let's not worry about Belfry's schedule. If you said before the season that this is Belfry's main opponents: Louisville Holy Cross, Lawrence County, Pikeville, Sheldon Clark and Johnson Central. Most people would say that in most years, that is a good schedule. It is not Belfry's respnsibility to keep up other school's football programs. Pikeville and LC once were powers, and now they are not. LC still played Belfry a good competitive game. That was good for them. Now it is obviuos that was LC's best performance of the year. It looks like they have lost their confidence. Belfry has had schedule's similar to this before, and they always fare well in the postseason. I expect the same this year.
EKU hinted at this next point. The thread says how would Belfry and Beechwood fare this year. Maybe it should have said how would some of their better teams have fared over the last few years. 2003, Belfry in a landslide-Beechwood was pounded by Danville and was one of the poorer Beechwood teams I have seen. (And they were still better than most). 2004, Belfry again would win IMO, but Beechwood much better, just that Belfry was more explosive than the Tigers. 2007, Belfry and Beechwood would be a good matchup, but I will take the Pirates in a close one due to their defense and not a great Beechwood defense. (The reason I used these years was because the Tigers played right before the Pirates at the finals). This year it is real hard to tell, but I will give my final opinion after December 12th, when I get to see them both play. Wink

Sorry but Raceland is the best of the teams you just listed. None of them come close to Beechwood this year. Sorry but thats the truth.

If you know those teams, get three of them and tell them to call coach Haywood. I'm more than positive Coach Haywood would set up a deal with them as long as they would travel to Belfry one of the two years.

I'd say Beechwood by 14-20pts.

Considering Belfry will probably be a two touchdown favorite against Russell would you say that Beechwod would beat Russell by 28-34 points this year?

The question should be could Belfry beat Cental?..LOL

Who are those 6 or 7 teams?

I'll go ahead and diffuse three that I know you will list as you have mentioned them over and over:

1. Ashland- Belfry and Ashland have played each other over the past ten years but the reoccuring theme is Ashland refuses to come to Belfry and play. Even though in recent history it is Belfry who has the best track record and the better facilities.

2. Russell- It is utterly foolish on multiple levels for these two teams to play each other in the regular season when there is such a high percentage chance of meeting again in the playoffs. I would lay good money down that Coach McGlone feels the same way.

3. Ironton- Belfry and Ironton played each other for over ten years and would have continued to do so, but Ironton joined a conference and the scheduling didn't work out between the two teams.

Secondly,
You have not seen Belfry play this year, correct?!? I have to question your knowledge to assume that Raceland would beat Belfry without even seeing Belfry play yet, let alone the fact to assume automatically Beechwood would win by 3 TD's. You may be correct.. but I would personally wait until after Russell has played Raceland and Belfry before making such a generalization.

Amen...actually I am more concerned at this point with : "Could Russell beat Belfry?" considering that will be the second round matchup the Pirates will be facing.

Don't write this one in ink just yet, you may have to eat these words.

Beechwood handled Prestonsburg. Prestonsburg in my opinion is equal to Belfry this season, mabey better. Beechwood would beat Belfry by 21 points I.M.O. Pburg beat a very good Breathitt team and I still see Breathitt going to the carpet this season. Beechwood 42 Belfry 21

I will agree and would not go so far as too say Raceland would beat Belfry.
Belfry's schedule is a bit weaker this season with the exception of J.C.
Beechwood manhandled Pburg. Pburg is a very good football team.
Do you think Belfry is that much better than Pburg? I.M.O. I do not think so.

I'll answer that one. I kind of already did in the Russell/Raceland thread anyway.

Beechwood would beat Raceland or Russell by 3 TDs. Not having seen Belfry in person yet this year but just by judging how teams have played against common opponents, which may not be the best way, I think Beechwood would beat Belfry by a couple of TDs.

Yes... 2 TD's at the least.

Will the Tomcats actually do a home and home or is Belfry being forced to bite the bullet again just so they can have a game?

bac2369 Wrote:Well if he did schedule them for later in the year and they beat belfry then that would motivate them for the playoffs and get them ready for the run to louisville.

For Belfry or Beechwood?

Word from a pretty reliable source on Pond Creek says it's fairly close to a Belfry and Ashland game at the CAM next year.

IMO Beechwood would beat Belfry but thats just me!

Sorry about that, but I think that would be a real good matchup at the CAM if the Tomcats can be persuaded to travel to Belfry.

Beechwood would take out Belfry by about 2 TD's IMO.
