I thought Powell made the most improvement on defense. Someone is doing a great job with the defense. Who calls their defense?

John Fugate is the D coordinator. Does a fantastic job.

Yes he does. Great intensity! Really knows his stuff.

Thanks coach but I still have alot to learn. I should have dropped to a cover 4 and we go to the second round of the playoffs this year. I thought we could cover it in a cov.2 but in a cov.4 we pick it off. They loved the sweep and in a cov.2 we had a saftey coming up on force to help contain it.
#36
We will be much better on D this season.
#37
What type of D did you run this year?
#38
Those seniors will be severly missed, but aren't they always. Mr. Whitaker and Mr. Fugate will have these boys more than ready for action come next season!!!!
#39
Lot of talk about defense and rightlly so. Coach Whitaker will also have an effective offense.

Are they going to play "anybody" this year besides us or will they be another paper tiger. If they want respect they need to earn it by playing better teams so they can guage their progress.I'm trying to say this as a positive post. You have to beat "somebody" or you won't get any respect.

Your right Breathitt Bobcat you can't forget mark oshea and Josh spencer, they really will help the team out this year 2.

I agree I am really impressed with what the new coach has done there. I am not sure how long PC has had a team, but I know it has not been very long at all, and for them to be where they are is a real testament to hard work by everybody involved. Generally everyone in their district that I am aware of has had a football team for decades, and has had a lot more time to develop a program, and if Powell keeps working hard by the time they get to the point that say Breathitt is, maybe it's possible for them to have success as well. I wish them luck.

This was 20 years for them I believe was what I have been told.

Your right. I think it has been 20 years, or something like that.

20 yrs compared to say 70 and 80 yrs that there opponents have had a program...I think it has something to do with it, and I am sure it's taken them some time to weed out some of the bad coaches they have had and finally settle on somebody who can win.

Powell will be competive this year but competive and being able to win games are a whole different story. They have made improvments and if they can keep working hard and hitting the weights, plus playing schools like the KY school of the Def they could have another winning season. Only joking. Powell will be okay this season, they should win 5 or 6 games this season.

I believe 8 seniors will suit up next year for the Pirates if nothing changes!

I have some good stuff for our D-LINE and linebackers for those o-linemen who want to shoot their hands out there on us though.

Our schedule really wasn't that bad. Harlan, Breathitt, Taylor, Bath & Estill all made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Berea ended their season at 8-2. Grant it, we have a watered down playoff system but 7 of the teams we played, made the playoffs. I'll admit that our non district schedule needs some improvement but Fleming had a down year & they're in our district. Jackson, Lewis, Morgan, & Betsy Layne were our gimmies. I know for sure we are dropping BL next year. Overall, our opponents records were 62-62. I just don't see how we can schedule all power houses for every game. Each team will have 2 or 3 tomato cans on their schedule. We had 4.

It does need some improvement but I don't see the need to bash us. We are getting better and scheduling better opponents in the future. Our regular season opponents record was 46 - 54.

Really I wasn't trying to bash you guys at all.I think you did a great job.I was just saying I would like to see at least a Hazard or Pikeville or P-Burg or two on your schedule.Beat a couple of the "better" small schools and it would really solidify your season.Sorry you took my coments as a bash.I know when you "dropped" Harlan last year you had picked up Walton-Verona.Glad you ended up with Harlan instead.

I agree. Nobody on "the team" wanted to drop Harlan. We knew it would be tough but that if we kept them, it would make our team better. We almost got them too. We truely only played good football for 1 quarter against them. They were good but we could have and probably should have beaten them. Oh well, I guess thats the way it goes sometimes.

If my sources are correct, then the BL game is dropped. They have already scheduled a game for it I believe.

Not to mention if you had dropped them you would have been disqualified from competeing in the district. Then you wouldn't have gotten to experience what it felt like to be in the playoffs.Good luck next year.See ya on the field.

Agree to get better you have to step up the competition. Don't forget how far down Powell was in football. You had to start and the bottom and build up. Schedule will get tougher with team getting better the next few years.

Would have, could have, should have, but you didnt. joke. You guys gave it a good try. Things are definitely looking better for Powell football. Getting rid of that losing attitude will do wonders for the program!

A losing attitude will kill a program. No team needs that. Good to hear from ya. It's been a while.
