The world is supposed to end on December 21, 2012. Ive looked up this stuff and it says that the Mayen calender ends on this day so people are flipping out like Y2K. Who beleives this hype and why?

I believe that there is already a thread on this, or it has been discussed numerous times. Oh by the way, I don't believe this.

I've heard about this one for a while now, there is constantly a special on the History Channel for it....I believe the world was to have ended about 20 times now and that's within my lifetime. There is only "One" person who knows when that will be. I don't believe it though.

Yeah, like Irish said, it was supposed to be over a long time ago. I actually watched a special disproving this though, I just simply can't remember how they disproved it.

Well the Bible says the world will end when we least expect it. If everyone does believe that the world will end in 2012, then it is a pretty safe bet that it won't.

God is the only one who knows when it will end it could be tonite at 6:34 who knows...i dont think it will happen then

It's been theorized that the Earth will end when it is pulled into the sun, as the sun will eventually turn into a white dwarf with the gravitational pull to suck in the first 4 planets.
I learned about this in Physics class, this is how many scientists believe the world will end.

I think that I heard that the Mayan calendar was based on the cycles of the moon, nothing more and nothing less. I personally think that the Mayans just got tired of writing so they stopped the calenday.

History Channel has a new 2 hr special on this deal, from a Nostradamus view. Started at 9pm.
Pretty good so far. A phenomenon that happens only every 26,000 years is why 2012 is targeted.

This is a load of crap. Jesus said, only God in Heaven knows.

After watching the History Channel's take on it... May make you doubt your doubts, how ironic haha. Not only dose the Mayan Calendar end of Dec. 15th 2012, but oracles such as Merlin predicted the end of time on this date too. The Chinese system of six lines (hexa-something) formed in a line graph corresponds to the great depression, both world wars, fall of the Romans, and high and low points of time... And abruptly ends on Dec 15, 2012.

Dont forget the Egyptian calendar ends also.
The Mayan calender is a long-count calender, it is designed when it ends to start back over at 0 and go again.
Although I will say there are some phenomenal astro-physical events predicted to occur at this time. An alignment of the planet that has only happned a handful of times in history, a magnetic shift in Earth's poles, couples with a magnetic shift in the SUn's poles. Geological history shows this has happened before and when it has, continents have moved hundreds if not thousands of miles in the blink of an eye, its gonna happen again. Since the Mayans had an understanding of the sun that even today we don't have, this could be why they selected this date for the end of their calender, who knows for sure.
If you want to really get into something intriguing, look up out of place artifacts. Some very strange stuff there. For example spark plugs that are over 500,000 years old?? That still has me baffled. Proof that the Earth has seen a fulls cale nuclear war before. Everytime a nuke goes off it leaves an unmistakable trail that last for millions and millions of years, tests have shown these to be found all over earth.

Scientists, Preachers and street corner goofballs have predicted the end of the World for centuries. When will it end?????
