Middle School and Youth Sports
#1
"■ Don't know about you, but I cringed last week when I read about the inaugural Football University Youth All-American Bowl at the Alamo Dome, which featured the top seventh- and eighth-graders in the nation. Basketball's distasteful habit of rating and recruiting the top kid players in the country has crossed over to football. The New York Times reported that one of the eighth-graders, a quarterback from New York, had been approached about enrolling at DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Md., next season. One scout was silly enough to compare the 14-year-old QB to NFL star Peyton Manning. The kid is already on the radar of college coaches across the nation. When asked about colleges he might be interested in, the kid cut to the chase of the absurdity of it all: "College? I don't even know where I want to go to high school.""

Mike Fields - Lexington Hearald Leader

It appears that Mike Fields shares my contempt fot the over blown hype and irrational treatment of middleschool and youth sports. I love the quote from the kid at the end of the paragraph.

Can't we just let kids play sports and have some fun anymore without over analyzing and over exposing it. Youth sports can teach alot of good lessons. Unfortunately too many adults are wanting to put undue pressure on kids and make them into grown ups way to soon. Let the kids PLAY.

I agree, but speaking of that game, Morgan County had a player in that game (Walker Crase) and they had him listed as a Tight End and I know for a fact he had never played the position in his entire life.

Well then you could compare Anquan Boldin to a preschooler.
