Notorious, I think you are right on it. When many of these types of actions are shown, it's generally to highlight and address an issue. Rarely do you see it just for pure shock value, so yes, when it is addressed properly, nothing is off limits. We choose to watch, thus don't take away my freedoms to watch or not.

Gran Torino had a whole lot of cussing in it that didn't have to be in it. The movie would've been good without the cussing. That's just what I think.

IMO you can't have some movie without cussing, drinking, abuse, fighting and all that; that's what makes the movie. No one wants to watch a movie where everyone is happy the whole time and there is no controversy. That's why movies have rating systems. If you don't like cussing and fighting then you probably shouldn't watch a movie that's rated R or even PG-13 sometimes.
