LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The estranged wife of a longtime aide to Rick Pitino was indicted Tuesday on federal charges of trying to extort money from the Louisville men's basketball coach and lying to the FBI.

Karen Cunagin Sypher, 49, faces a combined maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $500,000 fine if convicted of the two charges, federal authorities said. Sypher is the estranged wife of Louisville equipment manager Tim Sypher........................

No, but we will when this thing goes to trial, because she has said that she has several documents and PROOF in what Rick Pitino did to her in 2003. She has vowed to plead NOT GUILTY and then take this thing to trial so that her side of the story can be and will be heard.

Like I have said a hundred times, "there is nothing worse than a woman scorned."

Pitino done nothing wrong...he turned into the FBI and that was it...he may had an affair...but hey every coach in america probaly does that.,..

I'm leaning more towards the Pitino side on this issue, but I dont think he did nothing wrong. Legally, I dont think Pitino has committed any crimes, and I doubt she has anything on him involving his basketball program. However he has made morally wrong decisions, and not everyone cheats on their wife. He should have his family first, not his basketball program or other women.

Pitino was not indicted on anything, but the lady yesterday vowed to not break and that Pitino and all of his money would not break her and that the "truth" would come out at trial, which is set for June 29th.

Her attorney is filing papers to have the court trail moved out of Louisville and to Lexington. How is that going to work for slick Rick if her attorney is successful in getting the trial moved? I think that Pitino thought that if he brought in the FBI, this lady would back off and leave him alone, but that's not the case, this woman is going to follow through and give Rick a run for his money, no pun intended..... This is going to get UGLY for Rick and his family and the bad publicity that he will receive from this just may run him out of town

About this very thing and how the Louisville Media is trying to downplay the entire arraignment hearing yesterday along with the protesters outside of the court building. There was a great picture on the website of the courier journal, but since last night, that picture was taken off and the "protester" with the sign that said something about "Abortion" was taken off the website.... Getting very interesting for "Slick Rick"

Matt Jones is definately onto something on KSR right now. There are three definitive FACTS which I am sure about.

1. Pitino certainly did "more" than have an affair. It may not be criminal, but it is certainly not just something, as theVille stated, "every coach in America probably does".

2. There has been a muzzle on the media both locally and nationally as they will not tell the full story, although they have had no issue doing it to public figures anytime in the past.

3. Karen Sypher is no angel in this matter and she more than likely is guilty of trying to extort Pitino, but she is also far from being the only "bad guy" in this picture. Pitino may be a victim of extortion, but he is FARRRRRRRRR from being a victim on every level.

Here is my whole take on the media situation:

When Chuck Hayes was accused of raping a lady in Wildcat Lodge several years back, there was NO police report to speak of, but the media all over Kentucky and Nationally ran with the story very quickly. Did they wait to see if the lady was lying, which he admitted to lying about being raped? NO they ran with the story as being FACT... Did the media quickly run with Kobe Bryant raping a lady out in Colorado? Yea, they did, they ran with the story very quickly.

So, why is the media not letting this lady tell her side of the story? Why is the media saying that we have to wait and see if her story is credible? The media has NEVER done this before, but it seems like with Rick Pitino they are taking a wait and see approach. Well, the wait and see approach will come at trial and we'll see what is reported then....

Thanks like I said every coach does this....and like I said there is stuff about Cal and the cats buzzing around...But yeah Pitino had to do something about it or he was going to lose all of his money....Not dening he had an affair...he probaly did....but come on that was probably over 5 years ago....and as far as I am concerened, KSR is nothing but a joke they report false stuff all the time

There has to be a REASON for the extortion? Someone just does not wait until 4 or 5 years later and try to extort money for no reason.....

There is no NEW LAWS... It's the media and according to them, not wanting to print something that can not be verified.... Say what? How in the world was the Chuck Hayes incident verified? You reported it that night... No verification or anything, just printed a bunch of he said / she said...

This is very easy to figure out, KSR has it right. Look at the sign her son is holding up in the photo on KSR and this story is very easy to figure out. Its very hard to back Pitino after seeing the photo.

Umm..... you may want ro re-read what I said in my post. I disagreed that statement that every coach in America does it. What Pitino has done, is much more than just an affair, NOTHING CRIMINAL but much more than an affair as the media has tried to paint it.

Once again I don't think Pitino did anything criminal, but there is definately more to the story that would really tarnish his image if the pres chose to report at full disclosure instead of picking and choosing their details.

On a side note, if you think KSR reports false information then God forbid you visit the UL Rivals site, Howie is the biggest spin artist in the recruiting world.

Not illegal at all... but Pitino is a devout Catholic and that is DEFINATELY not what the Catholic Church stands for and definately not becoming of one of the iconic figures in college basketball. It's not what the sign sas BTW, it is who is holding that sign and why the C-J chose to cut it out.

I want to reitterate my complaint in this matter is not so much Pitino's actions. They are appauling and despicable, but they are personal and who are we to judge and question his job security over such. My complaint is the double standad the media has eld on this issue including prominent talking heads like Demling, Clay, Bozich, and above all other Pat Forde. Instead of telling the full story they have chose not to take the risk of being ostracized by Pitino and Jurich, yet they have no problem reporting on college athlete's without getting all the facts. Forde is especially troubling because he had the opportunity to break this story full circle and chose not to. Forde is widely known as being one of the best investigative reporters in the country, and has proven to out people with wreckless abandon to their status and families. Yet, when it involves the most conic figure at the school he most closely follows he chooses to take a pass. It is the epitome of a double standard.
