I could guaratee 8 wins next year too. With the talent and the strength of schedule. I wish him the best.

Looking forward to see how Varney does in his Senior year at QB.

I believe the parents and players had a meeting with the school today.

Those kids dont have to give up football. They can just head up 23 north about 15 miles and we will welcome them with open arms LOL!

Is Mike Roberts still going to be an assistant?

He has a son in college. Are they gonna let him play igh school football here.. He wants to live in Pikeville and is looking for a place to rent there. County going to give his wife a teaching job as well. She just got her teaching degree. And to you hail Pikeville I'll bet you would like some of
our players to come to Piekville cause you sure need em.... lol
#39
who will be on this Coach's staff... does anyone know?

They can't meet during the dead period. Mercer County had the same issue when they hired their new coach. They can announce it, but they can't, legally, have a parent/player/coach meeting during the dead period.

Exactly what I was thinking pikewildkat. I don't look for Pikeville to do much this year except whine and make excuses. I belive Coach Norman has a son in high school also.

They did nothing with the coach. The players and parents met with the school from what I heard, and I'm sure that is perfectly legal during the dead period.

It was a site-based council meeting that several of the players and parents happen to show up to.it didn't accomplish anything.

Coach Norman has two sons in high school.

That could be even better.

From what I can gather he has two children, one who will be a senior and plays along the interior on both sides of the ball. The other a skill position player who will be a sophomore. As far as bringing players with him, I don't see that happening outside of his two boys.

Good luck to the new coach. What's done is done. The parents and the community need to support him and the players.
And, if the guys love the game, they'll play for Norman. If they don't love the game, they don't need to be playing anyway.

Go Wildcats!

That is fine. I am not the KHSAA police, so either way it did not matter to me. I was just pointing out one of the things I don't agree with in the dead period. I agree 100% with giving the kids a break, but sometimes the dead period rules go too far. If you hire a new coach, he should be able to meet with potential players and parents.

Great point. I agree.

Congratulations to Coach Norman. He has some great talent in that senior group. I wish them the best. I just hope they let him have time instead of one or two years then ousted.

i wonder what this man credentials are since he went 1-10 at morgan county and 3-7 and iroquis.... 4-17 is not typically someone you pursue

When a job is not very attractive and you pursued everyone under the son then this is what you get.

Let me clarify what I mean by non-attractive - the SV job on its own is not a bad job, but take into account that it is a basketball school, has a 800lb gorilla named Belfry in the same district, and your better football players have been known to leave......well you understand.

belfry plays in 3a bub.... and this is the very reason why some of the talented players leave valley the seem to want a coach who is gonan leave in a couple of years rather than get some one local, not even from the valley community but even from pike, floyd and letcher countys, someone that knows the area lives in the area and wants to stay in the area

 ....and what were they going to try to accomplish at that meeting? We have a new coach, is that not what they wanted?:Cheerlead

like who? They have tried for sometime now. Considering Saunders walked off at the end of school, I think were lucky to have a couch prior to school starting, dont you.

Belfry may be an 800 lb gorilla, but they aren't in SV's district. Hard for a school in 3A to be in the same district as a 2A school. So Belfry shouldn't even be a factor in this discussion.

The only "gorilla" in SV's district is Prestonsburg, although they aren't on the same level as Belfry. Maybe just the 600 lb variety.

Anyway, P-Burg will likely always be favored to win their district, as well they should be, but SV is not that far away from them. Remember, they were just a few seconds away from pulling the upset last year.

You know what that was my mistake.......don't have a clue why I thought that.

Agreed. But I don't think people should blame Saunders for this problem. He did what 99% of what most HS football coaches do.....quit or leave after a few years. Granted the timing was not good, but you go when the opportunity door opens. I think SV was lucky to keep him as long as they did.
