I know this is a little early, but there is already a lot of hype about this one.
Background on Alcoa : Alcoa is going for their 6th consecutive state title this season, starting things off on Log Mountain. Their defense pulled off 8 shutouts last season and held 10 opponents without a touchdown. They only gave up two rushing touchdowns the entire season. Supposedly, this years team is just as good, if not better. Their coach is also a former EA Sports National Coach of the Year. They are a 2A school.
Of course, Bell County won the 4A State Championship last season, also pulling off 8 shutouts.
Whats everyone's thoughts on this matchup??
Good Luck Bobcats!

I really respect Bell but they will lose this game by 2-3 TD's.

I think it will be a hard fought game by the Bobcats winning by a TD.

i agree with alot of what you say on here, but i just moved back to ky from tn, and i dont think there football, is like ky,seen alot of them play,IF aloca wins dont think it will be but td or less, i see bell wining this one, unless bell dont have any where the team they had last year,it will be the game to go watch

Bell lost to many key people to beat someone like Alcoa this early in the year. But I HOPE I EAT MY WORDS! I hope Bell beats them by 100. I just see to many Athletes for Bell to handle. Theres probably more Athletes on Alcoas team as compared to all the 4A teams Bell played in the playoffs combined.

Alcoa is the king of high school football in Tennessee. Usually the only teams that can beat Alcoa are the Independent Christian/Catholic schools, and even then I would predict Alcoa to hang right with them if not win the majority of games. Louisville Trinity has been the icon of Kentucky football and even their dominant teams when Brian Brohm played couldn;t beat MBA from Tennessee, a team that I would consider Alcoa to be on par with in recent years.I agree 100% that KY and TENN football ae on an equal level, but the problem is Alcoa is traditionally the best of the best in Tennessee whereas Bell is usually in the Top 8-15 teams in Kentucky.
Here are recent recruits to come from Alcoa FWIW:
Randall Cobb-UK
Brian Sommer- UT Martin
Kyrus Lanxter- UK
Rae Sykes- Tennessee
Tyler RObinson is a LB/TE on this year's team who already has offers from UK, Virginia Tech, and MTSU.

You are correct Robinson Alcoa's TE is being pursued by UK. Also had inside word that Cobb and Lanxter both will be making this trip down to Log Mountain. If anyone wants to see a great game come on over.

They are one of the kings of TN football but I don't compare them at all to Trinty at all. Alcoa will bring a very good football team but I don't compare them to someone like Trinity or even Highlands.:dontthink

Alcoa could play with Trinity or Highlands year in year out. They are just as good. You people on here will see soon enough. You dont win 5 state titles in a row by just being a mediocre team.

Gonna be a tough one for Bell County to open up the season with. I do think the Bobcats will hold their own, but Alcoa takes this one IMO.
07-27-2009, 06:44 PM
Although I am very high Bell County and think that they could just about beat anyone in the state of Kentucky other than Trinity or X, I'm going with the safe pick and taking Alcoa to win by a TD or two.
Good luck to the Bobcats!
Good luck to the Bobcats!

Bell Co. and Alcoa ARE RANKED NATIONALLY VERY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. Both are ranked by most in the top 500 in the nation, but under the top 400. this will be a very tough match up but i see Alcoa having more experience in these harder game and taking the win.
With one exception - it is the Bobcats season opener, and they have a TON TON TON of support at home. coming off the win at state this will be the game to watch on week 1.

I don't think so. I don't think that you know what you are talking about. I am not taking anything away from Alcoa by winning 5 state titles. But they are no Trinity, St X or Highlands. I have watched them play many times and they do have athletes but they don't have anything compared to those 3 teams. Nobody is saying that they are mediocre I am just saying that they don't compare to those teams.

I really think that Bell is going to struggle bad against the speed of Alcoa. They have shown that Bell will have to defend the whole field as they can mix it up sideline to sideline, or up the middle. Backs on deep routes, whatever. They force you to stay base while on defense, they have most of their key players back.
A roster that I have seen is showing Bell with 44 players? Is that correct?

I would like to begin my post by congratulating the fans, players, and coaches of Bell County on the opportunity they have allowed themselves to have in witnessing the Alcoa Tornadoes. Few coaches will allow their players to undertake such a demoralizing task, but remember players of Bell County though it will feel like it, your season is not over when the clock strikes zero and the Alcoa Tornadoes walk off your field victorious, you can still have a successful season but your record will not be without blemish. Alcoa will win this game simply because they are faster, stronger, more elusive, and overall simply better football players. This is a school that will win its sixth consecutive state title this season and eleventh overall.
Alcoa has played what they were told was an elite Kentucky team in Hopkinsville in 2005. While the officiating crew did everything they could to squander the Tornadoes margin of victory by creating rules (gloves are not allowed in Kentucky High School athletics even though Hopkinsville wore them), calling back two 50+ yard scores (with blocks in the back twenty yards from the ball and the nearest Alcoa player), and throwing out Brandon Waren (freshman All-American at FSU/ current UT WR) for getting punched. Despite these efforts Alcoa won handily and by the end of the game an uberconfident Hopkinsville team left the field disheartened and astonished. I point this out only to explain that Alcoa is prepared the âhome field advantageâ that Bell County will receive and this will allow the contest to become closer but the match will never be in question.
As for Bell Countyâs 44-man Roster, even with freshmen that makes what 65 players. That is very little usable depth assuming such a powerful school like the mighty Bell County doesnât have to use freshman. Right now Alcoa has 100+ players out and by the time August 21st rolls around that number will likely be around 95, of that 40 will probably see significant playing time with the first unit in this game and I would bet 75 to 80 get on the field by the end, if they choose to travel with that many.
The talent at Alcoa is not comparable to anything Bell County has played against. They could have three alums start at receiver for SEC teams this season, and this yearâs receiving core is as talented as any they have had. Right now there is a quarterback controversy, but not because neither can rise to the top but because neither will make a mistake in scrimmages or practice to allow the other to get ahead. The stable at running back is stocked with three backs all more talented than the starter at most schools and all who provide varying dimensions to the running game, along with what is the most talented true fullback I have seen on the high school level. Then there is the defense, which needs no commentary, you simply do not score on them. They have too many players and are too deep to even be worn down.
The bottom line is Bell County fans just have your popcorn ready, it will be a show.
Score

1. Hopkinsville is nowhere near an "elite" Kentucky team. When talking about elite teams I would put them on a 3rd or 4th rung, I would list Bell as a 2nd Rung team.
2. Your post was funny in satire, but weak in merit.
3. Alcoa's talent will not be a shock to Bell County. If you will read this thread I have trumpeted Alcoa's horn as being the favorite and a very good team, but in terms of true talent there isn't a very wide gap between the Tornadoes and Bell County. Alcoa is the class of Tennessee, but they are nowhere comparable to the top teams from georgia, Florida, Texas, or Ohio. That is where you would see a truly vast talent differential.
4. I tend to agree depth will be a major factor in the outcome.
5. Bell County's ball control style of offense is not condsuive to a high scoring game. Alcoa will not score over 5 TD's on Bell. I still believe Alcoa wins by 2-3 TD's but it will be more in the lines of 28-7 or a 28-14 game.

Yes the talent level in Tennessee is higher than that in Kentucky, looking at the rivals top 35 in the state of Tennessee 21 signed with a BCS school. Only a top ten is listed for Kentucky and of those 8 signed with BCS schools. Now I agree 100% Alcoa could not play with the top teams in Florida, Georgia, or Texas but you are comparing teams that have populations at least three times that of Alcoa so while you are correct itâs not apples to apples. Now Alcoa is annually one of the most talented public schools in Tennessee and will have players who are significantly better than the players who take the field for Bell County. I do not know how familiar Bell county fans are with Channing Fugate but I believe he is from that approximate area, I have watched his film and Alcoa will have multiple backs that are just as good or better.
That ball control offense will not do Bell any good if they are going three and out all night long and Alcoa does not require the offense to be present to put points on the score board I have seen the mighty Tornadoes ahead 21-0 before they ran their second offensive play. Bell County supporters believe what you wish but you will be shocked by what Alcoa provides for you viewing pleasure.

Bell is a good kentucky team, And would easily whip hopkinsville up and down gthe fieldlike alcoa did in 2005. I hope bell wins this won just so your pride is forever senged.

I am going to have to agree 100% with TSPA's comment on ball control. Ball control means being able to string a few first downs together to control the clock and maybe score, maybe punt and flip the field. If Bell is going three and out (which they will if they come out and try to run on every first down) they are going to get ripped to shreds. :flame:
The F5 has actually does not have big yardage numbers because most of their drives are less than 60 yards, most possessions beginning on the opponents side of the field.
The reason that I asked about how many players Bell has is simply to gauge depth. If they take the field with 44 kids in August heat, they again will be in trouble, simply because there is not that much drop off between Alcoa's 1 and 2's...There is a capable back up at every position because we play so many young kids early and Alcoa is the only AA school that I know of in Tennessee that has enough freshmen to play a full schedule. On the team, right at 100 kids are suited up in a school of 500.
Player wise, everybody has already heard of Tyler Robinson who is going to have his pick of schools, Bell may be the first team to get introduced to Vanderbilt Hambrick. The backup tailback is faster than the Gospel and will be looking to increase his playing time. Also you will get to see first hand the next big thing in Junior fullback Taharin Tyson (6' 240ish) bull of a back that only plays offense. Blocks well, catches the ball and drags tacklers for extra yards.
More to come. (I know you can hardly wait)
