AlcoasPaintedBridge Wrote:I am going to have to agree 100% with TSPA's comment on ball control. Ball control means being able to string a few first downs together to control the clock and maybe score, maybe punt and flip the field. If Bell is going three and out (which they will if they come out and try to run on every first down) they are going to get ripped to shreds. :flame:
The F5 has actually does not have big yardage numbers because most of their drives are less than 60 yards, most possessions beginning on the opponents side of the field.
The reason that I asked about how many players Bell has is simply to gauge depth. If they take the field with 44 kids in August heat, they again will be in trouble, simply because there is not that much drop off between Alcoa's 1 and 2's...There is a capable back up at every position because we play so many young kids early and Alcoa is the only AA school that I know of in Tennessee that has enough freshmen to play a full schedule. On the team, right at 100 kids are suited up in a school of 500.
Player wise, everybody has already heard of Tyler Robinson who is going to have his pick of schools, Bell may be the first team to get introduced to Vanderbilt Hambrick. The backup tailback is faster than the Gospel and will be looking to increase his playing time. Also you will get to see first hand the next big thing in Junior fullback Taharin Tyson (6' 240ish) bull of a back that only plays offense. Blocks well, catches the ball and drags tacklers for extra yards.
More to come. (I know you can hardly wait)
BTW the Tennessee message boards are @ CoachT.com and you are more than welcome there.
I know all about coacht.com. My point that you know nothing about Bell County football. The first game you can bet that Bell County will be in better shape than Alcoa there will be know doubt about it. Come to the game and you will find out what Bell will be all about.

As Fan of Alcoa, I look forward to the trip to Pineville.
This game will be a great matchup!
I too was a little surprise with Bell County roster size?
Based on 2008 roster, there was 48 total players and this list did include Freshman. 13 Sr, 8 jr, 16 So, and 11 Fr. So, for 2009 it looks like the the rising junior and sophomore classes will be key to this years team.
From the 2008 team Bell County losses 13 seniors for the 2009 season.
Senior losses include:
Shawnta Zachery - Starting QB
Monte Merrick â Kicker (first team all state)
Spencer Greer
Tyler Hardin
Jacob King
Matt Simpson
Billy Lawson
Robbie and Brad Slusher
Adam Overbay
Justin Goodin
Kyle Fuson
Pretty good players gone from the championship team.
With Alcoa having twice as many players on the side lines, I do see depth being an issue for Bell Co. Alcoa rotates players almost every play and has a very deep pool of Running backs. Some sub 4.5 speed, some big and physical like 5'10' 240lbs. full back Tyson. The running game will wear on this seasons Log mountain team.
Alcoa speed on defense will not be fun for first year Bell Co. QB! 250 Lb Tyler Robinson and 225 Lb Daryl Warren at DE position will be in his face all night.
When the smoke clears.......I am predicting the Tornadoes leaving the mountain with a 41-14 victory!
The Alcoa F5! Coming to your town soon!

After a small amount of research I thought I would try explaining the talent level Alcoa has as compared to the best teams in Kentucky, St. Xavier and Trinity. Through the information I have compiled each of the aforementioned teams have had three players sign national letters of intents with FBS schools since 2005 and do not have any players holding offers from FBS schools currently. Alcoa has had six players sign national letters of intent in the same time period, one that turned down offers from such schools and currently has one holding FBS offers. Bell County had one player sign a NLI with an FBS school in the same time frame. Now I know other factors will contribute to the deftness of a football squad but it does appear Alcoa produces more talent than these two great football programs, and because of this one could only assume they play at higher level. So now can someone explain to me why the talent level at Alcoa is not superior to anything Bell County has faced, and please do not let facts get in the way of what has thus far been irrational conjecture.

I have family in the blount co area where alcoa is located and im pretty familiar with the alcoa football program. There are a few people who dont know much about alcoa football so i thought i would give a run down.
Alcoa has 10 state football championships (5 in a row and 6 since the year 2000)
In the last 5 years they have compiled a 69-6 record with 5 of the losses being to 4A maryville high school, who just last season was ranked as high as number 8 in the country and had the nations longest winning streak at 74 games. the other loss was to class 3A fulton high school in 2006. That was randall cobbs junior year and kyrus lanxters senior year. Fulton was lead that year by university of tennessee starter dennis rogan. Alcoa has also had 4 players on NFL rosters, including shannon mitchell who was a starter for the san diego chargers at TE in the super bowl. Over the past four years they have had a number of kids sign D-1 and 1AA including: Brandon Warren #20 ranked player in the country, #1 ranked TE (FSU).He was a freshman all-american at fsu and has since transferred to and plays for UT. Dustin Lindsey- University of TN(didnt qualify), Logan Love- university of TN, Rae Sykes-University of TN, Joei Fiegler-UAB, Martin White-Austin Peay, Randall Cobb-UK, Kyrus Lanxter-Uk, Colton Reid-Air Force. On the current roster for alcoa, most people know Tyler Robinson has been offered by Uk, V-Tech and a few others. As mentioned before in another post 5-11 240 pound junior fullback is already getting strong interest from ut, uk, uga, clemson and a host of others. JR DE-TB(6-1, 230) Darrall Warren is also a high major prospect with UK, Clemson already showing strong interest in him. However the most dynamic player for alcoa my be SR TB Jaron Toney who has rushed for over 2500 yards and 35 tds the past two seasons. He is more than likely a 1AA player but has been in contact with UofL and has also taken a visit to cincy. Their current head coach Gary Rankin has won close to 300 games and was also the 2004 EA sports national coach of the year. He has had several teams finish ranked in the top 15 in the country.
The program also has finished with a number 4 national ranking by usa today in 1989. Alcoa is really a city where athletes come out of the woodworks, including HOF WR Lynn Swann who was born in alcoa. They are also one of the classiest teams you will see. I hope i was able to kinda shed some light on who alcoa is. Im positive that it will be a great atmosphere for the alcoa fans to come watch a great football game.

thesmartestperson Wrote:I would like to begin my post by congratulating the fans, players, and coaches of Bell County on the opportunity they have allowed themselves to have in witnessing the Alcoa Tornadoes. Few coaches will allow their players to undertake such a demoralizing task, but remember players of Bell County though it will feel like it, your season is not over when the clock strikes zero and the Alcoa Tornadoes walk off your field victorious, you can still have a successful season but your record will not be without blemish. Alcoa will win this game simply because they are faster, stronger, more elusive, and overall simply better football players. This is a school that will win its sixth consecutive state title this season and eleventh overall.
Alcoa has played what they were told was an elite Kentucky team in Hopkinsville in 2005. While the officiating crew did everything they could to squander the Tornadoes margin of victory by creating rules (gloves are not allowed in Kentucky High School athletics even though Hopkinsville wore them), calling back two 50+ yard scores (with blocks in the back twenty yards from the ball and the nearest Alcoa player), and throwing out Brandon Waren (freshman All-American at FSU/ current UT WR) for getting punched. Despite these efforts Alcoa won handily and by the end of the game an uberconfident Hopkinsville team left the field disheartened and astonished. I point this out only to explain that Alcoa is prepared the “home field advantage” that Bell County will receive and this will allow the contest to become closer but the match will never be in question.
As for Bell County’s 44-man Roster, even with freshmen that makes what 65 players. That is very little usable depth assuming such a powerful school like the mighty Bell County doesn’t have to use freshman. Right now Alcoa has 100+ players out and by the time August 21st rolls around that number will likely be around 95, of that 40 will probably see significant playing time with the first unit in this game and I would bet 75 to 80 get on the field by the end, if they choose to travel with that many.
The talent at Alcoa is not comparable to anything Bell County has played against. They could have three alums start at receiver for SEC teams this season, and this year’s receiving core is as talented as any they have had. Right now there is a quarterback controversy, but not because neither can rise to the top but because neither will make a mistake in scrimmages or practice to allow the other to get ahead. The stable at running back is stocked with three backs all more talented than the starter at most schools and all who provide varying dimensions to the running game, along with what is the most talented true fullback I have seen on the high school level. Then there is the defense, which needs no commentary, you simply do not score on them. They have too many players and are too deep to even be worn down.
The bottom line is Bell County fans just have your popcorn ready, it will be a show.
Score
Alcoa – As many as they want
Bell- 7 ( late in the game on a blown penalty against the very end of Alcoa’s line up).
Thanks for the Disertation. :eyeroll: You make this game seem like it is for a State Championship or something. Heck maybe if you all put as much focus on beating Maryville as you seem to do towards beating Bell you all might end that streak.

Not sure if Bell can withstand the blazing speed that has never been seen in KY. before, or the GIGANTIC SIZE of the Alcoa players that are as big as Pine Mountain, or that overwhelming numbers that Alcoa has, (which I am not sure why numbers are that important). Maybe they should not even play the game.
Bell is playing this game to get themselves ready for the playoff's, they will show up and play as hard as possible. Seems like I remember hearing some talk like this when Knoxville Central come to town a few years ago???

Great research. We at Bell County don't really keep up with things like that. We play team football and that is what we care about it is great that we have had 2 sign with D1 schools in the last few years. Our players are not stat players the have the team concept in them. We play hard-nosed football and we smash people in the mouth and are very disciplined. And that is why Maryville has beat them so many times.

Honest mistake. Alcoa has a pop of about 500 kids total. I guess in KY the measuring stick for classification is the male population. Correct?:rules:

You are correct. In the case of private schools that are male only the enrollment is doubled and that is how classification is set. Alcoa would be a small 3A or big 2A in Kentucky..probably bouncing from class to class as different alignments came out. I am thankful for this because the team I follow, Belfry, is a 3A powerhouse but would struggle to match up with Alcoa on a year in year out basis IMO.
On a side note, what are you hearing UK's chances are of landing Robinson? I sure wouldn't mind seeing a pipeline fromAlcoa to UK open up.

Alcoa wins big i think by 3tds Bell co will miss the Kicker that put you on the 20 yrd
line every kickoff now you got a better chance to score the kid was the best kicker i have ever seen in high school football i cant wait to see him at WKU this year.
