What does the New Mountain Top 10 look like now after week 2?

Is this a matter of Coach Hager coming into his own? I doubt S.C. had better talent. Maybe they had similar talent (although I doubt it). I think alot of us felt Hager would one day be a great coach. Maybe this game got him there?
Are you serious? SC has KP who has some of the best combine scores in the country. Matt Slone and Brad Stafford who are both allstate wrestlers and may win a title this year. Not to mention the amount of pure strength on this team. I said it before. Strongest team since 98. You have one kid benching over 400lbs and a dozen more over 300. This team is athletic. Hager has been a good coach for a while.

I knew KP and Matt Slone were going to be tough. I also knew they had a good line. But number 23 had some really good plays. Especially when Breathitt made it to the two yard line and couldn't get in. The kid was getting to the ball and had some great stops. Anyone know who that is?

An earlier post said that Fugate had 5 yards rushing. Can anyone confirm that?
Rough night for Bloody Breathitt.
Rough night for Bloody Breathitt.

hold on peeps! Breathitt started out 0-2. They turned it around pretty quick if i remember.
08-29-2009, 09:26 AM
I can't belive this,, hum??? who Might be #1 after these loses????
08-29-2009, 09:38 AM
It isn't just about the coaching sometimes. Hager did coach a great game and yes we have a great coach! The game was awesome! But you should have been there to see SC's up and coming horse (KP Skyles #10) he was a beast with the ball. Not to mention our line, Matt Slone running the ball, Delong, Stafford, Avery Ray, Cody Slone, and our Quarterback! We won as a team and our talent matched up last night. It was just our night, but we do have the players needed to win games with a great coach! Everyone was very proud of all of our players and coaches.

That would be Mikie Moore who is another awesome football player on SC's team! Congrats to Mikie and Casey the blond headed twins! LOL!

yea i think SC is good but, you gotta know that almost every yer the bobcats lose 1 or two games early in the season. Im not taking away from SC but I still feel the bobcats along with Central will be the teams to beat come seasons end.
08-29-2009, 09:55 AM
#23 is Mikkie Moore , another good athlete that has good size and speed. This is not only 1 of the strongest teams, 1 of the fastest. But this is only 1 game and there is more work to be done if the cards want to get out of Louisa with a win.

Big win for the Cards. Huge defensive effort by SC. That is why you play every down of every game. And this out of shape stuff by BC leads me to ask how does a team who is one of the picks to win the state and has one of the top ranked backs in the state come into a game out of shape? After the loss in the state finals last year they should have been more hungry and worked a lot harder in preseason to come out and put teams away. Again congrats to SC and good luck next week.

Great win for the cards. Keep up the hard work.

IMO I don't think it was out of shape but more frustration, Fugate is a very good back maybe the best in the state ( I haven't seen everyone play, just going by what I have read) he was hounded all night by the cardinal defense and when it looked like he may break one the linebackers (BJ and KP, 2 sophs.) would be there to make the tackle or he would try the outside and the corners (Cody Slone and Matt Slone) would be there. Any running back will tell you it is hard to run the ball when there is no room to run , and it does get frustrating.Give SC credit they were not intimidated .

Congrats Cards...I figured this would be the game to watch. I wish I had been there to see. This season is still young, time for both teams to improve.

SC dominated Breathitt County the whole night. BC's stats loked like this they had - 18 yards rushing on 17 carries, Fugate five carries for two yards, Haddix 10 for - 23. Haddix was 9 of 19 through the air for 74 yards. Fugate caufght four for 28 yards, Fletcher 3 for 30. Haddix was sacked three times for - 23 yards. If this isn't domination I don't know what is. Breathitt was on the two - yards when the mouthpiece penalty was called on Fugate. Skyles had 72 yards for SC and Slone 61. Great win for the Cards and their fans who provided great support. Big ups to coach Hager for having a great game plan and he has proven he is one of the top coaches in the mountains. One thing that does bother me, most people considered this game the top game in the mountains with the exception of WYMT who showed highlights of the Pke County Bowl first and they televised the games and whats this waiting till Monday to release the Top 10. Guess they have to find a way to keep their favorite teams at the top and that one reporter that does the Pirate sound, he needs to cut that out because its not funny and adds very little to the sportscast.:Thumbs:

Because Seneca may be a Top 20 6A team, but they are not a Top 20 team statewide. They lost their superstar QB and for all intensive purposes would be maybe the 7th best team in Louisville.
Matre Dei may be Top 10 in their classification, but they are nowhere near Top 10 overall in the state. They are probably the 4rd best team in Evansville.
Say what you will but Breathitt, at worst, was the #2 team in the state in 3A. A win always trumps a loss.
Right now the Top 5 should be:
1t. Mason County
1t. Sheldon Clark
3. Central
4. Breathitt County
5. Union County

Regaurdless of what some may think, Central has won 2 state championships in a row and should be the #1 team until another 3A team beats them.

Big win for the CARDS. Does anyone agree that this 3A season is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in a long time? Congratulations to Shawn and his staff and the fans and players. I would say they're still partying in Inez after this win.

Kind of hard to be fair to all the mountain teams if they are playing on Saturday night instead of Friday this week...

Here is the real game summary.1st half. The REFS kept SC scoring drive going and Bhreathitt's going backward.2nd half Breathitt couldn't get going at all.If we meet later it will be alot different. They could play 100 times and SC would win one. This was the one.Very disappointed in how we played which wasn't good but 6-0 is not huge.Remember us and Estill last year?We won 7-6 and poured it on them in the playoffs.

:Thumbs:Congrats to SC on a hard fought win. Coach Hager just may have all his ducks in a row and have the team his been waiting for. Sounds like a great game was played last night.

this was a great game fugate was never a factor BC's recivers could not catch the ball because they was nervous going up against this hard nosed defense of the cards, KP Skyles played great and Austin Stepp showed hes not scared of anything great win cards this is our year.

As far as blaming the refs for the loss against SC as said by another poster, lets make no excuses, the team just did not execute as they needed too.
