Because Nick West has started roughly 27 games as Conner’s varsity quarterback, nothing much fazes him on the field.

Neither penalties nor a substantial early lead distracted the 6-foot-3 player Friday night at Scott. But he sure bothered the Eagles, rushing eight times for 184 yards and four touchdowns in the Cougars’ 40-7 rout.

“It’s nice to come out on the field knowing I’m not going to see something crazy I’ve never seen before,” West said. “I’ve been in all the environments, so it’s great to know they’re not going to trick me. It’s good to get everything else worked out now, too, so when we get into the district we get things going good.”

Conner, ranked fifth in the Enquirer coaches’ poll, hadn’t played Scott since 2006.

The Cougars left with their sixth win over the Eagles this decade, propelled by West’s 7-for-12 passing for 58 yards and substantial rushing numbers.

The Cougars may have rolled up 420 total yards to Scott’s 229, but coach Dave Trosper remained concerned with their propensity to rack up penalties. Conner had five miscues for 25 yards in the first half and saw another West touchdown nullified because of illegal motion

Get 'em, Trosper.
Congrats.

Business as usual for Scott. They continue to be the enigma wrapped in a riddle in NKY high school football. Good to see Conner back firing on all cylinders.

I had the pleasure of covering last night's game and Nick West is the real deal. That kid is a flat out stud. He may not be as good of a passer as Bardo of Highlands, but when it comes to all around QB, Nick West hands down gets my vote as best QB up here in nky.

I know they were playing Scott but 8 rushes for 184 yards?!? He's going to put up some huge numbers this year.

I like West as well. I'll hold off until I see him do this against the 6A schools that plug up the holes tremendously better than Scott could

Very legit point, which is why I said "I know they were playing Scott but.."

West is a VERY tough kid though and there were numerous times last night where he just ran over defenders at the line of scrimmage and then scampered for long td runs. None of his TD runs were him just having huge gaping holes to run through.
