I knew Breathitt was not bullet proof. I just think SC blind sided everyone including Fugate. That says alot for that defensive unit. SHELDON CLARK-6 BREATHITT CO.-0 that just hapenned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was suprised by the infamous mouth peice call. Jade had scored then the ref wants to call a penality for a kid not having his mouth peice in. How often is that called? But anyway, big ups to SC, they came to play last night and took it right to us. Our defense was great all night, kinda a bind but dont break mentality. After SC scored on their first position, I dont think they were in the red zone the rest of the night. Breathitts offense just didnt look in sync last night. Great game to watch overall with alot of hitting.

Especially when Breathitt made it to the two yard line and couldn't get in. The kid was getting to the ball and had some great stops. Anyone know who that is?Number #23 didn't keep Breathitt from scoring on the two yard line, Channing Fugate's mouth piece kept the bobcats from scoring on the two yard line. If you are a ref you do not make that call in a crucial point of the game. I am not taking anything away from Sheldon's Clark's defensive performance, their defensive line dominated but to let a mouth piece affect the out come of a high school football game, that is pretty cheap call.

They are as good as a handful of teams in 3A in the mountains and a 6-0 win does not make SC better than Breathitt, they are about the same.

Matre Dei may be Top 10 in their classification, but they are nowhere near Top 10 overall in the state. They are probably the 4rd best team in Evansville.
Say what you will but Breathitt, at worst, was the #2 team in the state in 3A. A win always trumps a loss.
Right now the Top 5 should be:
1t. Mason County
1t. Sheldon Clark
3. Central
4. Breathitt County
5. Union County
i dont think any polls at this point will be accurate, until about week 5 we wont really know anything.

Let's make it real easy.....Central is the team to beat in 3A. And as long as they can continue to participate at the 3A level...despite having a huge enrollment advantage over the rest of the state....they'll continue being the "team to beat". I'm not sure of the KHSAA's enrollment requirements...but I'm confident they're pushing the 4A limit....

Just talked with someone that was at the game and they said that Breathitt had their opportunities but dropped more than 3-4 passes that could have led to scores. They said that the refs did play a factor, but it was Breathitt's inability to execute that was the deciding factor. SC was ready and earned this win, go good for them. If these two teams play again, I would bet on Breathitt by 2+ td's.

I knew before I got ont here that the BC fans would blame everything on the refs. How can you not expect them to make the calls. You would be complaining if it had went the other way. Refs should make the calls no matter what. We had the same call made on our team 2 weeks ago. That is why they make rules. And they should be made for everyone. Glad to see that the refs were actually watching the game. SC was great last night and played their hearts out. You can use all the excuses you want but it doesnt change the outcome. SC great win. We are so proud of you guys.

So you suggest we re-align again and go to an 8 class system? Even better lets just setup how ever many classes are needed so that schools are only seperated by 10 students in enrollment to make sure everything is fair.

Last I heard during the offseason I wasn't giviing Breathitt enough credit because I said that Central was the prohibitive favorite to win the title again. There were several Breathitt fans who inisisted otherwise.

Sounds like a defensive battle in this one. Great game SC and good luck the rest of the season.

Thats bull. Fugate was getting drilled all night. He couldn't run all night not just on that play. Right before that call i was saying something about his mouth piece. I was talking about how hes already got it out gasping for air. Breathitt couldn't get anything done on offense. They looked soft. There was not any calls in this game that cost them the game. It was a lack of discipline.

This is all 3rd Hand Info, so take it FWIW.
But I spoke with someone this morning who talked to the official who made the infamous mouthpiece call and his quote was "We had already told Fugate 4 or 5 times over the course of the game to put his piece in and he just kept ignoring it."

EKU, I understand its a safety issue, but what about a ref warning a player to buckle his chin strap and they player never listens. Ive seen it tons of times where a player on more than one or two occasion didnt have their mouth peices in. Its a very rare call. Most time you will see the ref just say something to the player about putting it in, but I have never ever once in the games I have seen, a ref throw a flag for a mouth peice not being in.

We will see you guys again in the playoffs and you can guarantee our chin straps and our mouth pieces will be in check. So when we score on you guys in the playoffs the ref's can call a more conventional penalty such as holding. lol

I totally agree.Typically this is not a called penalty. But, rules are rules, and the fact that Fugate was warned multiple times makes the arguement even harder. The ref apparently had mentioned that Breathitt was also being warned about their chin straps too FWIW.
Very unfortunate that the penalty was called and whether a flag should play a role in the outcome is a hot topic, but at the same time I think any Breathitt fan who simply writes this up to "home cooking" and blames that call for costing them the game is out of line. Additionally, it wasn't like this penalty occurred on the last play of the game, Breathitt had chances all night to win the game and didn't get it done.

.. or if they happen to play at Jackson the refs can turn the table and rule a pass reception is a touchdown as the receiver bobbles the ball until he hits the hillside.

Im not saying that cost us the game or anything about home cooking, but like I said, it was the first time I have ever seen a flag thrown for it. SC played the butts off, and took it to us all night. My hat goes off to SC and their game plan.

This is just what the Breathitt Bobcats needed..... TO WAKE THEM UP!!! Now Ol' Coach Holcomb will set the team straight and they will become hungry. Congrats to SC on the great game they played. But IMO about 2 to 4 weeks from now if these two teams were to face up again I believe Breathitt may have a certain edge. Everybody must assume you lose your done but most teams need to lose to have a reality check and see just becuase their the favorites to meet up with Central in Bowling Green don't mean anything to the other teams.

I never mentioned additional classes. However, it's strange that Bell Co which has roughly 850+ kids has continued to play at the 4A level....but Central...with roughly 989 students...continues to play at 3A.

Male students... that determines what class you are in. Central is a magnet school for several programs but mainly for nursing, if I am not mistaken it is 3:1 females to males.

good job by the cardinals. I thought kp skyles had a great night the cardinals played some hard defence that great sack by taylor chapman to end the game what a show. I think the cardinals are coming in big this year:1:

Why blame the officals call. I was there and In believe that there was 10 penalties call on SC ad nine on Breathitt. Fugate and a few others had their hands on their hips by the end of the first quarter. SC dominated the line of scrimmage. Don't blame the refs becaue there was no home cooking. Get over it and accept SC was the better team on the night.
08-29-2009, 10:42 PM
I believe Breathitt felt "untouchable" and overlooked a good SC team. I expect good things out of both of these teams this year.

I played in that game my dear friend, and yes the pass was dropped as plain as day. Almost as infamous and the "cardinal crawl" in the playoffs in '98.
