This was a very impressive win for sheldon clark but breathitt was almost held scoreless last year against estill county but scored on a defensive play if i can remember correctly but not sure on channings performance that game but he was held in check that game as well. Then they met them in the playoffs and breathitt county destroyed them.
The point I am trying to make is do not dwell on this one win or who u stopped or what you did to a team because it can always come back to bite you in the rear.

Obviously the game could have gone either way, but IMHO Sheldon Clark was the better team this past Friday night. Always, however, remember that any given Friday night anything can, and will, happen in high school football.
The point I am trying to make is do not dwell on this one win or who u stopped or what you did to a team because it can always come back to bite you in the rear.
I was impressed by Sheldon Clark's hard hitting and a tenacious defense. The team as a whole played well. Channing Smith and Taylor Chapman made big plays at a crucial time in the game. And mentioning those two is in no way diminishing the efforts of the other players on the SCHS team. There were so many others that played an outstanding game I would not try to name them all, lest I should leave one or two out.
Obviously I am a SCHS fan; I have a grandson on the team: So, Sheldon Clark players, remember to play one game at a time, as a matter of fact, execute ONE play at a time, and do not dwell on a mistake, you can't replay it, but you can execute properly on the next play. Moreover, do not read your own headlines and take them to heart. They, unfortunately, can be your downfall. You may get the idea that all you have to do to win is just show up. Huge mistake!
I have a true example of that happening to a team my son played on: They were 5 & 0, number 1 in the state and thought they were unbeatable. They started believing the sports headlines, and thus concluded that all they had to do was show up. Well, guess what, they showed up and lost number six, and their season went south. They never got their momentum back. They ended the season 7 & 3 and did not make the play offs.
I remember distinctly, even though it was 27 years past, one of the players who was at our house a few hours prior to game time. He was a super player, probably the size of Channing Smith, who made the prediction of Friday night's game and I quote: "well Mr. ***, we will beat Charleston by 4 or 5 TDs. Another one of the guys there said something to the effect of Charleston is not in our class, we will "kill" them. Well, they lost that game and 2 of the next 4. Obviously there were other factors that were in the equation but number ONE overconfidence!
Therefore, SCHS football team, do not pay a lot of attention to the postings on this site, the newspapers, etc. Remember one game at a time and one play at a time, and believe in yourself. You guys have tremendous potential, but you must execute each and every game. Games are won and lost on the field, not in the media.

Congrats to Sheldon Clark..
Huge win for that program. I feel sorry for Powell, Magoffin and Estill, Holcomb will have to pad the stats even more now and run it up on weaker opponents. Look for 60 or 70 hung on district teams to get those offensive stats back up. Fugate had only 5 yards??????? Great job Sheldon Clark! Bad news for the rest of the district and we will see who has class and who doesn't when scores get ran up on lesser teams to get those stats back up.

I have spoken to some officials and they said the flag should have been thrown prior to the snap of the ball, dead ball penalty. This would have prevented the TD from being called back. He also said that officials try to prevent things like this from happening by talking, but if players and coaches do not listen, flag them. He did state, I would not have flagged this and prevented a score from taking place.

pretty unusual holding channing fugate to only 5 yards of such a good running back he is. good job SC.

Congrats Go To Cardinals,Maybe TOO Much Tenn thinking not enough Bobcats thinking,we are a much better team,Fugate is much better,Line is much better but in saying that if Fugate cant take on 175 pounder he will never take on 260 pounder in SEC so he has to play better every play, thought we just didnt play we on offense all nite,Haddix was pressured ever pass, and he did better than most thought,he hit several in hands and just didnt catch them, but thats Football good teams do better Great teams catch them all,No blocking for Fugate at all but if your a top back a 185 pounder will not stand in your way and you sometime have to make holes,SC is top team in their district and i have said that from day one,Bobcat defense played well to keep them from scoring 3-4 more times they were quick and strong and we thought we was ,but tonite it was SC as victors but this is only one GAME!!!Go Bobcats!!!

all i have to say is horrible blocking by the o line of breathitt. this game showed that channing fugate didnt win games by himself last year. also breathitt was in perfect scoring oppurtunity after a pass was caught by fugate. but 2 many penalties. but you can bet your *** breathitt comes back and still makes it to the class 3A state championship game.

No excuse for the way they got manhandled on the line last week and the penalties with the dropped passes were terrible. A lot of time to work on things though.

i honestly believe the new weight room is paying bigger dividends than what most people expected. i was told this is the best team SC has ever had. especially on defense

Get the facts. And I don't remember the refs blocking , tackling, or runnung the ball. They just called the game like they saw it! SC would have to have lost by the score 6-0 to get more respect from bobcatstuckinpowell, but thats ok we will take the win instead. At least Powell Co. won, be happy!

The best thing is there was no cannon fire in Inez on Friday night.
08-31-2009, 06:23 AM
No Cannon Friday nite but there will be one sitting ready to fire on all home games and ,just maybe the next meeting with Cardinals the cannon will be blasting and i am sure it will be,Bobcats have to hang their heads because of their play friday nite against Cardinals, but better get it up quick because P'burgs in town for the "HONEY BOWL" and if they think Cardinal's can play P'burg will slap you in Mouth quick and they have a passing game, should be a good game cant wait till kick off see what these Bobcats will do,and see if Blackcats can play whole game and take a kicking like they never seen.Go Bobcats!!!

Cat Daddy Wrote:Number #23 didn't keep Breathitt from scoring on the two yard line, Channing Fugate's mouth piece kept the bobcats from scoring on the two yard line. If you are a ref you do not make that call in a crucial point of the game. I am not taking anything away from Sheldon's Clark's defensive performance, their defensive line dominated but to let a mouth piece affect the out come of a high school football game, that is pretty cheap call.
If you are a captain of your team you dont get lazy on the 2 yard line and give the ref a reason to make a call like that. I hate when cheap penalties like this effect the outcome of a game, but its the refs job to call it, and its the coaches job to make sure his players know better than this. I watched a game last year that had the outcome decided by one of these penalties. In a 14-12 ball game on a two point conversion play it was called which could have sent the game into overtime. To me this game sounds like breathitt just got out coached. Fugate with only 5 carries, that is absurd. There is no reason a Mr.Football canidate and one of the best RB's in the state only gets 5 carries.

Actually Central has right at 1100+ students with right at 300+ boys. Take away the English as second language boys and they have less than 300 boys. They are in the bottom 10 of 3A when it comes to male enrollment. Granted there 300 boys are better athletes than most schools with less than 500 boys but lets not go throwing around false information about them having 4A numbers but playing in the 3A division. Not sure it matters who is ranked where in Aug/Sept. I can assure you that the state championship in Dec will go through the west end of Louisville.

If they catch the ball, this game is at least a 2 td game in favor of the Bobcats. As another poster said, SC would win 1 in every 10 against this Breathitt team, and this is the one.....

I am not so sure about that one. In a game where one team dominates the other team but ends up losing somehow that analogy is true. In this instance every indication I have heard said that SC dictated the tempo of the game, they shut down the Breathitt offense, and were simply the better team on that night. Breathitt fans are quick to point out the dropped passes and mental errors, but truth be told I am sure Coach Hager has just as many things he could pinpoint that his team could have done differently as well.
I think it is boastful to believe that SC couldn't at least win 3 or 4 of those 10 games if not more. Considering that SC is adjusting to a new offense this season I wouldnt be too quick to discredit that SC won't improve just as much if not more than Breathitt by season's end.
08-31-2009, 01:49 PM
How do you shut a team completely out and then have to listen to why you didn't deserve to win the game? 6-0 is a win and a well deserved one at that. SC won the game. It's that simple.
Any coach can point out this or that that either helped you or hindered you from winning a game. The game was decided the other night, no need in trying to play it back over now. It is what it is.
