One of the worst if not THE worst called games I have ever seen. This game was on a schedule YET, when Belfry shows up, no ref's. Guess who called the game??? You bet, their coaches! We have on film (and photo) the boys running 7 yards (for an example) and the ball being spotted @ 6 yards. EVERY TIME!!! Yardage was taken away. Towards the end of the game, SV fumbled the ball YET, the almighty ref's blew the whistle, called a "dead ball foul" and gave SV back the ball... A Belfry player had the ball in his hand from the fumble YET, it was a dead ball? Come on... GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Clipping, block in the back, and offsides ALL night were NOT called on SV as they were on top of the boys before the QB could instigate the play... (recieve the snap)... I have to question why there wasn't officials ON SITE for this game!!!
IMHO, KHSAA needs to find out why SV does not have the funds (even though we were charged admission fee and they had a concession) to hire officials. This is high school people NOT pee wee league or little league. Officials are a part of the game and I have the schedule here with SV on it so I'm sure they knew there was a game as well. September 21st, Belfry plays SV @ Belfry and I KNOW there will be officials for this game... Let's see how this one turns out!!!

Evidently they thought that if they beat Belfry JV they had it in the bag... I guess you will take a win anyway you can get one.. EVEN if that means cheating a bunch of kids... BOTH sets IMHO got cheated tonight... You don't teach a team bad habits.... it might come back and bite you in the butt!!!

I would agree. Great lead by Valley then a great comeback by Belfry and then the big kickoff return by Valley for the TD.

LoL i think its funny that you all find anyway to bash a loss for belfry, im guessing you (phs1986) was looking off at the end of the game when Valley got called for a pass interference and Belfry caught the ball for a 23 yard pass AND got the 15 yard penalty for interference, So yea valley was cheating REAL bad wasnt they ?
. AND about the whole deal of you all saying i think were the best team in pike county, if you can read at all you will see i said Belfry is the best team in pike county until proven otherwise, I said that people need to quit thinking were the best this early in the season and let us play and then they can say otherwise! get the facts right boys

Uhhhh!!!! I'm staying out of this one. However, having coaches from the school ref is a little crazy. They cannot win because both sides will be ticked off. Spend a few bucks and at least have some guys wear some striped shirts.

Tanner my man, you are correct. The additional 15 yards should never have been added, but it didn't end up mattering anyway.
09-08-2009, 12:13 AM
Agreed... The 15 yards is a fine example that you need someone who KNOWS what they are doing out there.. NOT your coaches!! But, 15 yards doesn't even touch what was done in total tonight.... Not to worry though... When you all come to Belfry I promise it will be better... You will have men in striped shirts who we DO pay to come and call the games!!!

PHS1986, i agree with you, we should have officials at the games, but all im saying is that it wasnt bad calls strictly towards belfry, it was both ways!

Keep this thread on the topic of the game, not about each other's grammar. If you guys can't knock off the jabs at each other, this one will be closed...

I thought you had too have officals present in order too play a real JV game. Usually games are cancelled if they dont have refs.
09-08-2009, 12:22 AM
Thank you Tanner for agreeing. I tell you what, if you really don't think it was that bad I will personally get you a DVD copy of the game so that you can watch it and then you can tell me what you think! I know of 5 offsides on SV that should have been called (when the coach/ref is within 3 feet of you) but they weren't. Not saying Belfry didn't jump but to me it just short changes the kids (both teams) when you don't have officials on the field doing a job that coaches should by no means be doing!! Thanks again young man...

No problem. Like i said before, i still totally agree with you, there should have been officials at the game and im not sure why their wasnt haha. But IMO i still think that it was a great game rather the game was called correctly or not! I cant wait to watch the game again at Belfry the next time they matchup!

I really dont understand why they continued to play this game when there wasnt officials. I know two that woulda called it in flash.
09-08-2009, 09:44 AM
The fact is this game should have never been played, does this mean SV is better than Belfry in Varsity, no it doesn't. Is it a good sign for Sv in the next few years, you bet. I'm sure both sides have legitimate cases, but the game is over now and we can't do anything to change it. Sounds like a good game, and congrats to SV with the win.

I agree, there should have been officials at the game, but to be honest, the last JV game we (SV) played had officials, and it wasn't any better. Several missed offsides on both sides, the pass interference call and penalty result was awful, there was an inadvertant whistle which costed Belfry about a 15 yard run, the first TD of Belfry should not have been because they were given 5 downs (if any question about that, watch your DVD).
Honestly for one team to say "we got robbed" you can't.
Hopefully a better game at Belfry latter on.

There is a reason for no officials! The guys scheduled said that they did not realize that it was Labor Day and thought that there would be no game. Looney (an cert official) was there for his grandson's practice and agreed to do the game at the last moment. The others were coaches who were there to blow the whistle to keep people from getting hurt. None of the coaches complained.
There were probably missed calls, but both sides knew that this game is just to get experience for the boys anyway.
Ask the Messer kid about the game and he would probably mention his catch with three hanging off of him! Great catch! He probably don't care if they added 15 or not.
Ask the Norman kid and he will mention his stop on the goal line. He probably could care less that the line judge did not call the holding call on the end all night against his team.
Those guys are out there just to help the kids! Nothing more, nothing less. The coaches would rather be on the sidelines, but things happen, and they wanted to still give the boys a chance to play. To me it is better than turning everyone away.
By the way they paid the only official that they could get to show on such short notice.
I was happy to see the game go on!

I was glad they went ahead and played the game, and I completely understand the situation (it being a holiday) that we did not have officials. The point I was trying to make was there were missed calls and bad calls that went against both teams, not just calls that went against Belfry.
Hey, a game is a game; and this is JV. This is about developing your younger players, and I believe it is doing just that for Valley.

IMHO, if you "negate" to call a call that you SEE your doing the boys an injustice. SHOW them what they are doing wrong, teach them not to do it again, let them see that they get a penalty for doing something they shouldn't be doing!!! Just so you know... MY child now has to see an specialist due to the fact that an offside WAS NOT CALLED (basically all night) and he was tackled before the ball was even snapped. Yes, he has been to the doctor today and has an injury (that I will not mention at this time) and will be possibly having to have surgery! Thanks for all the wonderful ref's and great calls.... Belfry boys sure needed all that positive-"ness" on the field!!
OH.. BTW, I did see BOTH Belfry coaches get a little "tangled" when SV fumbled only to get the ball back on a "dead ball foul" call... Yep, this one was one for the books!!!

And I can say the same thing about my 5th grader that got hurt at Belfry the other night. A case were only one face mask was called but it went on all night. But you know what, I don't expect non-officials to get it all right. My son will be back in 2 weeks and will face Belfry in the county championship if both teams make it. Which I think they will. That's just football.
