Class 3A State Playoffs
#31
With all the injuries that are happening to some of the key player's of the top teams in 3A that could very well open the door for some of the other lesser but good teams to step up and knock off some of the BIG BOYS !!!!

I take Breathitt over anybody that is put in front of them for the rest of this year. The season just now begins for the Bobcats. People are going to see why UT offered Fugate a scholarship. Haddix will leave a lasting impression as well.

It is finally time to let the "Big Horse" run.
So your telling me that Breathitt has been sandbagging all year and are now going to come out of their shell and be unstoppable. If they are, then they probably have pulled off the biggest hoax in all of sports. By all accounts Breathitt has been mediocre at best against good competition, like LCA, Johnson Central, Perry Central. Now are you telling me that a football team of Breathitts proud past and tradition is gonna play dead til the playoffs just so they can steamroll everybody. That kind of logic is crazy, any young man with any pride at all for himself or school would leave it all on the field and try to win every game. If it works out for you then by all means congratulations, but I highly doubt thats the case.

There are several teams that CAN win the title this year and that includes Breathitt. There are no strong teams in 3A as compared to years past and that leaves the door open to teams that are not as good as in past years to win it. Belfry is not as good, Breathitt is not as good, Central is not as good, no one in 3A is very good and that brings average teams into the mix to compete. Good luck to all teams and fans. I am sure that these playoffs will be as exciting as any even the caliber of teams are not what they were.

I can buy that. I still think there is a clear hierarchy of teams entering the playoffs:

Central

Mason County
Belfry
Somerset

Breathitt County
Pike Central
Sheldon Clark
Russell
Union County
Henry County

But, I think that the difference between those hierarchy of teams is much smaller than in year's past and all these teams have less margin of error than in previous seasons. I think all the teams above have a shot at a title..it's just some have a better shot than others.

Alright I usually keep things pretty chalk when I pick games or predict things but this is the way I see things turning out.

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sheldon Clark @ PC.....with Sheldon Clark getting their revenge

Breathitt Co @ Somerset.....with Breathitt Co physically dominating the Briar Jumpers.

STATE SEMIS- Breathitt Co defeats SC 14-12 to make it to Bowling Green only to get destroyed by Central. I believe it is gonna be a wild year of playoffs in the east in class 3a this year.

Yeah this is all tough to predict coming from a Belfry fan. But I am a realist.

By no means am I saying that Breathitt has been sand bagging all season a and just waiting for the playoffs. They had several key players like Epperson and McKnight get hurt at the beginning of the season and now almost everyone is back. They are almost 100% with a healthy Haddix and a healthy Fugate...two of the top 50 players in the state. Does any of the other 3A teams have two top 50 players on the same team? This group of guys could really turn it on and make some things happen since they are running on all cylinders now.

hey....in another thread you picked Belfry to beat sc...so these 2 will never meet

Breathitt has not been sandbagging. LOL. They have been the victim of playing a demanding non-district schedule, without several key starters who have been injured. I know injuries are part of the game and affect some teams more than others. In Breathitt's case, most of their replacements were inexperienced freshmen who weren't ready. Admittedly, they haven't played up to the expectations of their fans most of the season. Now some of the injured are returning, and those young players have gained some valuable eperience and have played better. Can they make a run to Bowling Green? Probably not. But they are a lot better team now than they were earlier in the season.

:nfc:[quote=Cat Daddy]Everyone wants to talk about Somerset but looking at their schedule I don't see where they are so great. They have an undefeated season but In my opinion if Belfry or Breathitt would have played the same schedule they would be undefeated as well. I think a lot of people are going to be shocked when Breathitt rolls down to Somerset and leaves with a "W".

Will not be shocked at all.........

if breathitt was to meet up with sheldon clark it is highly unlikely they would beat breathitt again. breathitt had a winning touchdown by haddix that was called back due to a mouth piece penalty on fugate and he didnt wear it all night but they only call it on the one play breathitt scores on. breathitt is playing as a whole team and healthy now so sheldon clark will get steam rolled by breathitt.

Recently, they have been playing a non-demanding district schedule(one of the weakest in the state). They will be in trouble when they travel to Somerset.

I would love for Belfry to play Breathitt again. We want revenge, and I would get to have some fun yelling at Fugate, I'm a HUGE Lane Kiffin/Monte Kiffin fan. And everytime he does a little thing wrong he'd get "The Kiffins Wouldn't Like That!"

They would have trouble even if their district was strong, Somerset is a good team. But Somerset will have trouble with Breathitt also. Wayne County lost to Somerset 9-0 earlier this season as a reference. Breathitt can not help that the other teams in the district are not as strong as Belfry's, as an example, they play who is required.

Couple of thoughts......
Congrats to all of the Breathitt posters....you guys are the ultimate optimist. Also before you start watching film and getting a game plan ready for Central you might want to make sure you are ready for a very scrappy Garrard team this Friday.

For my Belfry friends predicting that Somerset will get physically dominated, well I'm guessing you haven't driven 3 hours to watch them play this year. Probably basing it on playoff game two years ago between SHS and BHS. These are not the same Jumpers you guys played two years ago.

I don't remember any posts saying this Belfry team would dominated anyone. I am sure that Somerset is a good team. Any team that is undefeated has to be good. The only question I would raise is their seemingly weak schedule. The first two games of the season were their biggest competion. Knox Central and Pulaski County are average/above average teams and no one else they played is that good.

One of the Belfry posters said that Breathitt would physically dominate Somerset, not that Belfry would. I agree with your assessment of the schedule, but you play what you got. Who would thought that Danville would fall off like they did, even though they seem to be regrouping.
Pre-season Somerset was and underdog in 3 or 4 of the first four games. When the coach resigned 11 days prior to the season many thought we would have a loosing season.
Jumpers like any team can be beaten if they don't work hard and focus each week, but these kids have been through a lot (two dad's passed away and coach resigned in the last 12 months) and I think they will come to work each day and practice the way they need to.
Good Luck Jumpers!!!

I agree with ya. I don't think other teams can really evaluate each other too good unless they have seen them in person or watched a bunch of tape. Schedules are funny. At Belfry, they played way too weak of a schedule the last two years for the type of teams they had. Of course, sometimes you get bound to a two year committment to some teams and it comes back to hurt you becasue teams happen to be weak the two years you play them. Kind of like you were talking about with Danville being down this year. This year Belfry loaded 4 good 5A teams on the schedule and was 2-2 aginast them. I would say we would both have to agree that it would be nice for Belfry to indeed travel to Somerset. It would mean we were both still playing and only 1 win away from Bowling Green. BTW, I have been to Somerset three times over the years, twice watching Pikeville, and in '07 when Belfry played down there and I had a good time all three games.

I am a little bias here, King might be out for Central but they have a HB sophomore Anthony Wells. This kid can play. As long as Central can run... they will beat you. Central doesn't lay down at home either, they are a **** good group of kids hungry for victory. I see Central owning this state for some time to come. Recognize who we are. Good luck to all who compete. If you do play Central please bring your doctors to the games. Hits are imminent!

I don't see what is wrong with some of us getting behind our team whether it be the Bobcats or whoever else for that matter. For us Bobcat fans we know what we have in Fugate, Haddix, and the rest of the guys...that is a team when healthy can play with anybody...also a team with great coaching that knows how to win championships.

I said it once and will say it again...in my opinion Breathitt will beat anybody and everybody that is put in front of them for the rest of the season....Channing, Haddix and the rest of the guys on that team are going to give us a post-season to remember.

WAR BOBCATS!!!

Well since you asked Central has 2 of the top 10 players in the state. There have not been updated rankings but in preseason top 10 players Central had the #1 - Tim Patterson and number 6 - Stephon Robinson in the State not just 3A...not to mention Ace Wales who torched Breathitt in the championship game last year as a Freshman and is well on his way to 2000 yards as a Sophmore...he and the Dozier kid who is a two way starter as a Freshman will be in the top 10 players in the state for the next few years to come. I have said it before and I will say it again. If someone is going to knock Central off its perch it better be this year. Their young talent is scary good.
