LCCs coaches that hold clip boards and only take stats on Friday nights have more coaching talent and knowledge than most head coaches!

these cougars play there hearts out but they didnt friday night they just didnt haave the fire and desire in there eyes that they usually have

Maybe they get that chance. Word is Coach Howard is retiring and moving to Flordia. Have we seen the last game he will coach at LCC?

I love how everyone keeps doubting the Maroons week in and week out!! Keep on doubting them because they're just using that to their advantage!
Congrats Maroons!! I hope you guys can keep on going staright to a 5A State Championship Trophy!

More than Likely Letcher County has seen the last of Coach Howard, The coach whitaker era will begin. Look for lots of new faces on the LCCHS coaching staff. I think at least four of the coaches from the previous administration will resign. Good luck cougars, lots of talent coming back.

Great win for the Maroons and hope you carry the momentum into your next battle. Great season for an overall young but solid LCC. Next season Cougars try and come out on fire every game and execute!

Can't believe somebody is questioning this coaching staff. They have the 3 best coaches in the state!
Who are the three coaches. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy. The play calling tonight killed us. WHY run that trick stuff when so close and why not just keep doing what we we were doing, it was working.:HitWall:

Until you walk in the other man's shoes--it is easy to second guess---Ask Bill Belechik of the Patriots about the 4th and 2 call against the Colts last week. I was as mad as anyone at the LCC vs. PC game. But on the way home I got to thinking. Were mistakes made on purpose---the answer was "NO". Would things have been any different if we had it to do over? the answer is "probably" Hindsight is always 20-20. The kids had a great year. let's remember that this program is 5 years old. It has 2 District titles, 1-District runner-up, and 3 regional finals appearances. It has posted back-to-back-toback double digit win seasons. In the last three years it has won 31games and lost 8. I see nothing but "good things" in the future if these kids get dedicated and solve some of their discipline problems. Discipline begins at home and if it doesn't -it will have to be addressed by the coaches(whoever it may be).You can show kids, tell kids, and penalize kids, but in the end it is the kids themselves that have to be the ones to look in the mirror and see if they did all they could to make their respective teams better. It is those who can do that , that will succeed. those who can't will fall by the wayside and be lost in the crowd. Emotion must be tempered with reality. It's easy to get caught up in the minute but you can't let it happen 14 time in a season. Too many unsportsmanlike has been an achilles heel for this team all year. They must grow up and decide how good they want to be.

Windsprint let me ask you a question. Is most of the problem with those kinds of penalties dealing with your seniors? I was just wondering. You are right about the penalties, but I also feel that the option should have never been called at all after the Belfry game. I just feel IMO that when you run the ball regularly down the field and you get to the redzone, why change? I just think that we are not a option team. We run it down there throats. Most of the fumbles that we have done have been on the option. Should never have been called. I also agree that we need a lot of work in the off season on defense speed. I know they can't practice on tackling until next year, but they really need to work on there tackling. There was a lot of plays where if we made a tackle, it would have been for a lose, but due to poor tackling, it was positive yardage. I really think if we had scored instead of fumbling, the momentum would have shifted. Too much fancy trick plays.

Four 15yrd penalties, two fumbles that lead to 10 points, and bad coaching decision in the redzone. We are proud of you guys. Great season and we will be back next year. You couldn't just say final, you had to had the bad coaching decision. Your not a fan, your a " on the boat when it's afloat" kinda' guy. Your always on an LCC or Jenkins thread but you never have spoke of any bad coaching decisions at Jenkins. Only the ones made by a 10-3 team that lost in the regional finals. Lose every game by 50 but that's ok guys, we'll make the playoffs anyways. Lose in the regional finals and it was bad coaching decisions. Just wear your green and stick with it.

Even the guy on the radio said "That play has never worked all season". I call it like I see it. I am still a fan, but when they don't do good, then I just speak my mind. Love it or hate it. I also said that the unsportsmanlike penalties was also a factor. That is just my opinion. If you don't like it "sorry".

I'll pass this on to coach Whitaker and he can come down to wally-world and get some advice from the guru.
Mabey I can help you some here before you clinic coach Whitaker; First off, the defense is hardly ever right when the option is read and ran correctly, now did coach Whitaker know it wasn't going to work? ....NO or he wouldn't have ran it., Why change in the redzone you ask? Well when the D puts 11 in the box on goal-line, then you have to change as well. Your not going to line up and run it down their throat with 11 men in the box, so you run????( c'mon, you can do it, you know the word) OK, I'll tell you, the option, to get outside. Now for the fancy trick plays, well when they work , your a genius, when they don't, you get blasted, but that's coaching. By the way I can quote from whatever I want on here.

I would like to see him actually coach against Mike Whitaker. Give them the same talent and I would bet almost anything it wouldn't even be a game. Something like Whitaker-100 Cougar Pride 08-0. Why in the world would someone with his credentials second guess someone like Whitakers credentials. It would be like Whitaker second guessing Cougar Pride 08s ability to order the correct dog food.

Where I work at and what I do has nothing to do with my opinion. Ever other person can come on here with there opinion, and nothing is said. What are you guys related to coach whitaker? Every fan has the right to criticize a decision by a coach. So you guys think that all the calls was the right ones? If a coach does make a bad call, are you just going to turn away and not say anything. Real imature by the way of constantly using wal mart when making threads about me. You guys are just as bad as Guru. Could a mod please close this thread? Getting way too off topic. By the way, Logan did score the first touchdown in the red zone on a run, and the defense did have 11 men on the box. That option was called on first down if I am not mistaken, so you had three downs to work with.

In the coaches defense, on that option play, there was nothing wrong with the pitch or the play. The ball was knocked loose by a vicious hit from Tyler Stone of Pulaski County. That could have happened on a run around the end or up the middle. It was just a very hard hit.
It was a pleasure meeting the fans from Letcher. For those that stopped by the tailgate party, thank you. Kevin and I had some fun on the radio breaking down the game. Hope to see you guys again next year.

We knew what to expect from Jenkins. No winter conditioning, no spring practice, only a few 7 vs 7, and to make matters worse some kids was playing football at Jenkins for the first time in there life. Once they get a year of conditioning and get soem work in the weight room, then they will be a much better team. As it was already said in this thread, football season began Monday. If you haven't been in the weight room yet, you are already behind. Expectations where a little different at Jenkins than with the cougars and you know it. I am Letcher Co sports fan not just Jenkins or LCC. Are you even from Letcher Co?

What is that supposed to mean. I think it is pretty much a done deal. Coach Whitaker will be the next head coach along with who he wants on staff. I think it is all right for you to get on here and complain about personal fouls, That is obviously the coaches fought, but to complain about playcalling, when it is obvious you know nothing about football is a little absurd. Really easy to do when you are in the bleachers, not so much when you have to read the D and make a call in 25 seconds. Coaches make mistakes, they have to live with them. They don't need fans to constantly remind them. As for Jenkins, they will not be as good next year, unless they get some transfers, as they were this year. Larry isn't Jesus or Benny Hinn, he is just Larry.

No need to get personal guys. That's part of what makes high school football so aluring. Watching a game --agreeing or disagreeing with strategies--- replaying games with "what if's". it's all part of the game. just be thankful that we live in a country where you can 2nd guess people's actions and express your own thoughts and ideas. as for the Coach's-- they are thick-skinned enough to know they will ALWAYS be 2nd guessed. In fact, the only 6 coaches that won't be 2nd guessed are the 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A state Champions(and I bet they had a few disagree with them somewhere along the way this year). It's high school sports guys--talk about it, argue about it, discuss it, but don't make personal attacks in it. It should be fun

You are right Windsprint, I am done talking about it. IF everyone comes back to LCC next year, then we will have a great team. The future is bright, but like I said, the season started Monday, and if kids are going to take football serious, then they need to be at it every day they can. Some of the problems I am sure will be addressed as far as problem players who kept causing us 15 yrds. No matter who is the coach, I am sure that kind of behavior won't happen again.

LCC had some success with the speed option in some earlier games. With a QB like Johnson that is a good play on the goal line or anywhere else on the field. My philosophy has always been that if you want to coach bad enough, go get enough college credits and roll the dice. One may find it is not that easy.

The games over..Let's move on..Can't change a thing about it, from the players, coaches or fans perspective.

Big game, regional championship, players are pumped up. 16 and 17 year old highschool football players make mistakes sometimes. Winning the regional championship is what they worked for all year, This is it! Adrenalin is sky high, your gonna' get some flags. To say you are "sure" this will "never" happen again is not very realistic.
