Peyton Manning wins 4th MVP
#1
Peyton Manning was named the 2009 MVP. This is his fourth time winning the award. Another milestone in his great career.

And we learned in the last two weeks of the season that he really is the most valuable player to his team. Confusedhh:

Interesting point: The only vote-getters were quarterbacks. Makes perfect sense in the modern NFL, which has become almost totally QB-centric. The shelf life of the modern running back has become so short, due to all the contact they get, that RBs are almost as interchangeable as wide receivers these days.

Not surprising. It was obvious after the Colts/Jets game just how valuable he is (as is most QB's in today's league).

I was not overly impressed with anyone this year, but I have no problem with Manning winning. I actually thought that Favre would get it

Congrats Peyton Manning

Like him or loath him you have to admit he is good.
#7
who else would have won it

Favre?

I'm sure Brees was in the discussion.

Manning got 39½ votes, Brees 7½, Philip Rivers 2, Favre 1.

So Brees was in the discussion ... but barely.

Favre has a pretty good running back behind him. A lot of QBs would look with that kind of help.

Chris Johnson??

Not even the most valuable player on his own team. The Titans' fortunes turned when Vince Young took over at quarterback.

110% Disagree. Totally. While I agree with you that Young helped turn the season around, rushing for 2000+ yards (5.6ypc) behind an offensive line that had no one make the pro bowl, and only fumbling 3 times, AND leading his team in receptions (50, for 503 yards) all the while, everyone on every defense all year keying on him, to say he wasnt even the most valuable player on his own team? Sorry TSH, disagree here bud. I respect your posts, and you do know your sports, but I disagree with you here.

IMO the name and popularity won the award this year. Yes Manning is one of the greats at the QB position and is the best at that position today and the other MVP awards he earned. But how often is it you have a RB go for over 2000 yards in a season. Yes Manning is in the playoffs and Johnson isnt but this isnt a team award, it is an individual award. I think Chris Johnson deserved this award this season. I think Brees or Rivers deserved it before Manning this year.

It's an individual award to the player who is most valuable to his team. Take a look at how the Colts played after their coach and GM decided to shut down Manning in the 15th game. The Chargers won behind Billy Volek in week 17 and the Saints' defense played well enough with Drew Brees out of their final game of the season that they were still in the game despite losing. But with Curtis Painter running the show, the Colts are pathetic. We've seen that in the final two weeks of the season. No question in my mind: nobody in the NFL is worth more to his team than Peyton Manning.

Without Manning the Colts have a losing record this season. Last year, without Brady, the Patriots won 1 more game without him than they won with him this year. Manning is the Colts and he is definitely the M.V.P. this year.

Friend of mine just pointed this out to me and I think it provides a good counterpoint: Johnson's game-by-game statistical log at Pro Football Reference. Note the point at which Johnson goes from halfway decent results with flashes of brilliiance against bad defensive teams to "Holy flurging crap, Batman!" results on a consistent basis: Nov. 1 against Jacksonville, the game Vince Young took over as the Titans' starting QB. (Unfortunately. [Image: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w186/...smiley.jpg])

You can't tell me that QB change didn't change Johnson's season. It certainly changed the Titans' season. That's why Chris Johnson isn't even the most valuable player on his own team this year.

Has anyone Compared Brees And Mannings Numbers? Brees Killed Manning. Why Did Manning Win For?

Thats your opinion. Take Johnson out and let LenDale or anybody else on that team try to carry that kind of load and then tell me he doesnt deserve it. To say Johnson wasnt the MVP of the league is one thing, but his own team? Thats entirely another. Yes I agree with you that Vince Young turned the season around for them, but heck, I could have played better quarterback than Kerry Collins. Take Johnson out and replace him with any other back on that team, and they are a 2-14 team at best.

How does someone get 1/2 a vote?
