A local college is now considering itself a university. Pikeville College officials announced Monday that after a Board of Trustees meeting, they have created an MBA program, which now qualifies the school as a university. Officials say the mascot and the colors will most likely stay the same.

This has been in the works for some time.
As of a few weeks ago they were going to change the name but I guess they changed their mind on that one.
I can't remember what they were chaning it to....
but it was a little ridiculous if I remember correctly lol

Boston College is a University, correct?

Just leave it Pikeville College. And if they HAVE to change it make it the University of Pikeville. I heard something about freakin Central Appalachain University. Or something along those lines.

-University of the Mountains
-The University of Central Appalachia


Those are horrible.

Make it the University of Pikeville, which keeps the name of Pikeville and acknowledges university status, or keep it the same.

Is Mountain University already taken? I could understand that one, and it sounds okay but The University of Central Appalachia sounds awful!

There's a Mountain State University over in Beckley.
I think the biggest reason for a complete name change is so they won't be known as P-U.

If changed, I would advise going with the U of P. Like Louisville. U of L. Wearing a hat with UP on it would look weird. U of P would be a lot better.

You could also add a Football, Basketball, Baseball...etc. In place of the "XXL"

If they do that, then Pikeville should trade names with EKU as it would make more sense for EKU to be in Pikeville and SKU in Richmond.

Personally, I really wish that they will just keep it as Pikeville College. I think that there is too much history with "Orange and Black"-"Bears"- And Pikeville that they will change everything but still even changing the name "Pikeville College" just seems odd. I say keep it the same, much like what Boston College, etc. does and offer the opportunity to the kids without sending the Alumni a heart attack.
