SC is simply bad right now. They had alot of turnovers. The receivers would stop on their routes or just look lost. The tackles didn't get on a LB all night. They had bad snaps. Smith did look fast but didn't hold on the the ball very well. The line just got ran over on defense. There wasn't alot of bright spots for SC from this game except the young number 3 seemed to play with alot of heart. SC would put together a couple good plays then have a huge loss or turnover. It is better to take a 1 yard loss than to turn it into a 20 yard loss or a pick.
Prestonsburg on the other hand just didn't have very many mistakes. A couple balls were underthrown early. Other than that they were very consistant. I can't really say one player stood out because the whole team looked good across the board. This is one of the most balanced teams Pburg has had in a while. I think they are going to have a very good season.
You can also tell Pburg has spent alot of time in the weight room. You can see them working out from the end of the season right up to the start of the next season. All of them not just a couple. SC's line seemed to have their hands on their hips all night sucking air. I hope they can fix some of these problems and put together a good season. It starts with putting in the work for every game.

Sheldon Clark hasn't beat Prestonsburg since their 21-20 W in 2005.

With PCC beating JC maybe the Cats are better than what people were saying.

Prestonsburg played a good game and ran the ball very well out of the jet all night.
Thought they played kind of soft in the 2nd half after being up by 3 touchdowns, but they did look good in the 1st half. Grant Anderson had a really good game for Prestonsburg, he's very elusive and very fast. Defense made a lot of good plays and made some big hits, which is something we haven't seen much of in the past couple of seasons.
Congrats Blackcats... Best of luck on the rest of the season Sheldon Clark!

Cards fall to 0-2 on the season and it is most def not the start that anyone wanted to see, But you have to put this one behind you and get ready for Frankfort next Friday.

P-burg is legit. PCC win v. JC sheds light on last week's loss. Sheldon Clark has played two very tough teams to open up. They can still have a really good season.

That's what I was thinking. Plus Pburg played a lot of last weeks game without Jamerson. Congrats Blackcats.

Congrats to Prestonsburg their coaching staff proved once again that SC's staff is not very good. SC has too much in fighting among the coaches and players and this is squarely on the head coaches shoulders! Coach Hager has turned his back on the core of this team in the 4 year seniors and that is sad, KP,Taylor and BJ played very hard . I guess Shelby Valley and Pike Central knew what they were doing when they released the Norman coach, because up until Smith was ruled eligible SC had unity and played like a team, now SC is just on the field no team effort. Example of that was last night; Smith fumbles inside of Pburgs 5 yard line in the 1st quarter and nothing said to him , and the Skyles kid tries to handle a bad pitch in the 4 th quarter and is taken out and berated on the sideline. Skyles is a 4 year starter and Smith has been there 3 weeks, something totally wrong here! Also heard Hager fired Norman at halftime but we will see.

I am so disappointed in my Cards. I hope what you say is untrue. It seems like they have to get it together. I must say that my heart breaks for KP Skyles. I have watched this kid since he was just a kid and he is so incredibly talented. I wonder if colleges will even look at him because of the poor job SC is doing

All the skill players in the world won't make a difference when you have scrubs up front

I hear alot from teams about how the non district games are there just to prepare you for the district games and how they don't really matter. To some extent this is true. However it seems as though that mentality has carried over onto how Hager's teams play. Not just this one but the teams of the past too. That philosophy is true when explaining why you schedule powerhouse teams. However in football every game matters. You have to play to win every game, every down, and every time you fire off the ball you should be wanting to win that fight like your life depends on it. That is what seperates the good teams from the bad. I could barely tell who was in my district when I played football. All I knew was that team on the feild that night was my worst enemy. They were the ones who came to my house and picked a fight with me. These new SC teams don't seem to have that same mentallity or toughness of the teams under Jim Matney.

Congrats Blackcats. For the Card fans, SC is NOT a bad team. The much maligned O-Line looked pretty good picking up blackcat blitzs and opened some good holes on counters. The timing on pass plays needs work. The CArds will be fine by the time they start district play.

Good post Matman, SC has talent but no desire or motivation. KP,BJ, and Taylor were the only ones after the game to come out of the locker room upset and angry the rest seemed to be glad it was over. You mentioned the weightroom, SC strength coach is KP, coach Hager was "too busy" with little league baseball, I didn't know little league paid more than coaching high school football. The ones that attended weight training did very well but it was not manditory. Good luck to the Blackcats the rest of the season they are a well coached and supported program.

He is a football player! KP plays hard on both sides of the ball and blocks, a true team player. My heart goes out to his family, after the game I went down to talk to his dad and KP, but stopped and saw them embrace and both were in tears, all KP said was I'm sorry. I had to walk away thinking what character this young man has to put the weight of the team on his shoulders and go out there and play like he does, he is a MAN.Then remember what Hager did to him in the 4th quarter on the sidelines was childish on Hager's part. I know his family has had plenty of high school coaches want them to move to their respective schools in order for kp to play for them but he was told by Hager this year would be his year, the offense would be based on him, at the scrimmage against Nitro it seemed that way and good results for SC. The next week things started changing from Hager and then lastnight you could see the fire go right out of the team when Kp was turned into a blocker and not a weapon. Hager has destroyed the trust he had with this young man and that is very sad to see and I hope KP puts this behind him and learns from it, that people will betray you to suit their own agendas and the only thing you can control is yourself! I love watching you play KP, so, please don't let Hager discourage you into quitting. . As far as bashing Hager I'm done with him, he showed his character lastnight. Good Luck SC in the rest of the season

Its a shame to see this team fall apart like this from what I was told it was like Hager didnt even have a voice anymore and it was like Norman was calling the shots, I mean his oldest son was on top of the box last night call the plays on O. Smith is a good player but from what I have saw is he is in it for himself and less for the team. It breaks my heart to see this for the seniors on this team, What Hager did to KP was uncalled for there is no damn reason in this world you take your senior who is the best runner on the team and turn him into a blocker.

hager has had more talent come through sc in the past 4 years then most coaches would have in an enitre coaching career and what does he have to show for it? im sorry for all the seniors but mayb the underclassmen will either move or get lucky and get a better coach next year...
08-27-2011, 02:06 PM
taylor kp n bj needs to stick together.. they do haver a chance on goin to college even if it looks like hager is trying to keep it from happening, so mayb hager will get sum since n realize what he has n if he does wanna win, which in martin county dont seem that the coaches want to win but if n hopfully this will happen he will go wit what is best for the team n get kp the ball n base his D around taylor, he was just simply a beast on D last night from the stands he looked like the only one with heart on that D...
