RunItUpTheGut's Ranking For The Week Of 8/28
#1
I must say this week was awful.
A LOT of teams played out of state and i know nothing of those teams. I did the best i could on this weeks rankings and i think some of you will be pleased, but im sure some will be confused.
I tried not to punish teams fr losing to out of state teams but with 6 classes its hard to find 10 teams in every class that really "deserves" to be there more than the others.
Take the tail end of 1A and 6A for example. After the first 6 or 7, it was just a guessing game as all of the teams left didnt have quality wins or had wins over really weak competetion.
Feel free to comment and approve, or dissaprove.
And as always, enjoy.....

Agree with your first post that the bottom half of 6A is hard to rank. Here is some thoughts. Henderson Co could/should be ranked along with Ballard. Not sure that Bryan Station deserves a ranking just yet. They lost to a good Eastern team, but Lafayette also lost to a good Bell Co team. I believe I would have Henderson Co. Ballard or Lafayette in there instead of Central Hardin....just MO.

I think that you have done a really good job with this class this week Runitupthegut. I knew that once Harlan proved their place it would all pan out. I think that their are 4 tiers in 1A. Tier 1-Mayfield,Beechwood and Hazard. Tier-2 Holy Cross,Pikeville and Harlan. Tier 3- Williamsburg ,Frankfort and Raceland. Tier 4- Everyone else. I think by the end of regular season Williamsburg will mature into a team that could pick up big win in the playoffs if the district 6 team they play isn't on their game. I also think that Harlan and Hazard should meet for the region title and it should be a much better game than last years regular season game. Right now the edge for sure goes to the Bulldogs. Harlan plays Hazard at home in about 4 weeks from now and we should get a better indicator of what the playoffs will be like. But,all in all you did a very good job with the 1A rankings this week.

I forgot to put fairview in my tier 3 teams. They aren't there yet rank wise but I do believe that's where they will end up.

1 - 2 Whats up with this!!!!!! Come on Man !!!!!! lol

Also Knox struggled with WJ and Somerset smoked them But Knox still higher don't agree with that one. Hows the best way to compare is by teams played!

But other than that looks good to me!

Very well done in 4A, the Mountains and generally everywhere. I would put Rockcastle a little lower. Knox Central is still the class of that district.

Just a suggestion, Russell County is probably team 10b or 11.

I agree, I think I'd rank Somerset @ #4 ahead of Knox and Rockcastle in the Mt Top 10. They spanked WJ and beat Pulaski Co (a pretty good team) much worse than the score indecated.

I agree with the others:Thumbs:....it will take a couple more weeks of football to see how things shake out.

We will get a good indicator of where Pikeville ranks in regards to Fairview and Raceland this weekend when Pikeville plays Raceland. Also helps gauge reference to Harlan, Williamsburg and the other two teams.

I think pikeville by 21 over Raceland. If that happens where's pikeville in regards to fairview?
#17
No Pike Co Central? That's ok. We like flying under everybody's radar.

If that happens I might be too busy dancing in the parking lot at WC Hambley to come back to BGR next week. But, I think Raceland and Fairview are pretty even. They both beat a bad East Carter team (Raceland by 20, Fairview by 25). Fairview killed a bad West Carter team and Raceland was killed by Ashland. Region 4 is going to be pretty unpredictable in the postseason. Excluding Phelps, Allen Central, Nicholas County, Paintsville, South Floyd- Pikeville, Raceland, Fairview all at this point look to be capable. The Raceland/Fairview game is HUGE. That team will host Pikeville, instead of having to go to Pikeville. Pikeville is going to have to beat BOTH. That could be a tough two weeks.

Hopefully Harlan will knock off Hazard and Pikeville can hold off the NEKY foes for a State Semi's rematch.

Wouldn't that be cool. I think the Raceland game will go a long way in determining just where Pikeville stands in the state right now and Harlan too for that matter. I think you have Mayfield,Beechwood and Hazard with Hazard the more vulnerable of the three. On the next tier you have Pikeville,Holy Cross and Harlan. Then the rest. Also, I do think that Pikeville and Harlan have narrowed the gap on Hazard. It could get very exciting in the playoffs. I just thought of this,if Harlan,by the grace of God,did beat Hazard at home in the regular season, then it could be highly possible for there to be 2 regional championships played in Harlan Co. on the same night. Thats never happened before. Go Panthers!! Good luck with Raceland!!

Thanks Dragon.
1A seemed to have worked much better this week as it everything became a lot more clear. Its a lot easier to rank the teams when teams you have ranked are playing each other.

To your first question.....Bell is still king. I know Harlan Co. is good. Trust me i hear it every day along with every other poster on this site. But, until they beat Bell or Bell loses to a team that i dont think is as good as Harlan Co. ill move them up.
I just hope Harlan Co. doesnt think they'll blow by this schedule, because to be honest, they not only have one toss up game with Bell, it looks as if Perry could battle you for that district championship now. Im not saying they will even come close to beating you all, but with the way they have looked and after an impressive win over J.C., you have to have them in the discussion. If both Bell and Harlan doesnt lose another game until they play than that game will decide who the real king of the mountains is and in my final ranking thats team will hold the number one spot and take that ranking into next year.

To your second question...
I agree that Somerset could be better, but we dont know that. Whitley plays both of these teams this year and those are two games i will def leave knowing which out of the two are better but i agree that Somerset couldbe better.
I know KC barely beat WJ. I watched it, but it was obvious KC overlooked WJ. And IMO, Rock is the best out of all 3.

How can anyone argue with bell being #1? How long has it been since we lost to a mountain team? :1:

I answer/ask this question with complete seriousness, was Rockcastle County the last Mountain team that Bell County lost to?

Knox does not play Whitley Co this year. They do both play Perry Co Central, but I think most unbiased people would think Somerset was better than KC at the end of last season, and has done nothing to loose the advantage. They most certainly didn't overlook an opponent and look like a average team in the process. I'm just not overly impressed with Knox Central yet. I am impressed with Somerset so far....both of these observations could change in the next week or two. We'll see how the Panthers do against PCC:rockon:

I meant they play Rock and Somerset.
Do you get what im sayin now? lol
I know they dont play knox, however, im all for dropping Lynn Camp and playing Knox every year. Little travel time, around 30 minutes and two teams that, in todays time, are very closely talented, and would be a great game every year, instead of playing Lynn Camp every year and beating up on a 1A school every 4 out 5 years.

No problem.
I try to make it clear that i am not biased at all.
I DO listen and read all of your post and even refer back to them while doing my rankings.
I like to think of this as BGR's ranking, not just RIUTG rankings. I just dont want to put BGR's ranking as its not my site, and theres really noone else involved in the decision making progress.
Keep the comments coming, your voices are heard. This helps me a lot when it comes to teams that i know very little about.

They were, back in 06.
#30
LWC Wrote:I answer/ask this question with complete seriousness, was Rockcastle County the last Mountain team that Bell County lost to?

You are correct LWC.
The last time Bell lost to a mountain team was November 10, 2006 @ Rockcastle Co. in the second round of the playoffs 13-0.
They also lost to Rock that year on Oct. 6, 2006 @ Rock 18-14. They also lost to rock in 2005 at home 21-0.

And the most amazing stat of all is Bell County hasnt lost a game to a mountain team other than Rockcastle Co. since Sept 3, 2004 @ Prestonsburg, 27-24.
And the last time Bell lost at home to a moutain team other than that loss to Rock in 2005, was all the way back on Sept 19th, 2003 against Corbin, 24-14.

So Bell has only lost 5 games to mountain teams (3 was Rock) Since the 2002 season, where Rock beat them twice that season as well.

And since 2000 Bell has only lost to a total of 4 mountains teams. They are Rockcastle, Corbin, Prestonsburg, and Whitley County. So to say there not the king of the mountains is an understatement.
