Rockcastle County 36 Whitley County 3
#1
Final. Rock moves to 3-0 Whitley moves to 0-2

I like a lot of the Whitley County fans but how can anyone support attempting a field-goal with just seconds remaining when they were down by 30+.

Congrats Rock!

Maybe it means a lot to the kids to avoid being shut out. Avoiding a shut out is a small victory, AND, besides, didn't Rockcastle have the opportunity to try to stop them?

Great job ROCK

Yeah, I would like to see some stats from Clarke Rowe.

I figured this game would be a lot closer, but Whitley County seems to be a lot more down that everyone had expected coming into the 2011 season.

I personally was suprised that Whitley didn't run Bryant more than they did. He's a load to try and pull down. Rockcastle worked on the passing game when the score was 29-0 early in the third and kind of called off the dogs. The JV was in with 8 minutes left in the fourth. I wish Whitley the best for the rest of the season. They had some good size on the line and the bruising Bryant to carry the ball. Hope they can get things turned around.

Score was 39-3. whats scary is how many people from rock touched the ball tonight. rowe didnt have 8-9 touches. Mcdaneil scored rocks first td with a 50 yard run. Luna and Reams also had some really good runs. Pluse Rock had the passing game agoing tonight

Congrats RC

Again i told you so, rock better be ready when we finally play someone, which is when?

Sounds like it was a tough night for the red and black. It is looking like a 2-9 season for the colonels. Too young, too small and not nearly strong enough to play with Rock. It looks like it may be time to reevaluate and start over. The Colonels have some obvious issues to work out. The fundamentals are not there niether is the focus. This may be a season that serves the kids best if they looked at it as a prep year for next season. Honestly the sports teams reflect the conditions within the school system. Whitley County is going through a big transition with new leadership. The politics are simmering hot and anxiety fills the air with regard to who might ultimately take over leadership of the school system and the football team for that matter. Next season will be better.

They obviously did it to prevent another shutout.
I dont agree with it either, but WC is gonna be shutout a lot this year, so to get 3 on the board is good.
To b e honest, i expected it to be worse. This could possibly be the worse team Whitley has fielded since ive been alive. Ive never seen so much youth and inexperience on one team. The only win i see this year Lynn Camp. Other than that, i dont know that will come within two TD's of anyone. Its hard to think how much this program has fallen off over the last couple of years, but it has.

Its all a reflection of numbers IMO.
Like ive said a million times, if your a 5A school and theres over 1200 kids in your school, you should be able to get more than 40 kids out to play football and thats with over half of them being underclassman. Something gotta give whether it be the coaching or administration, something or somebody has got to get this program back together, because i dont see it happening anytime soon.

Sadly, your right on pretty much everything.
Theres so much change going on right now with this school system, im not sure whos going to come out of it leading this team. I think its pretty obvious that Black is almost done with coaching. Id say a few more years at most. I just hope we bring in someone who can really get the kids out.
To be honest, the hard ass approach to coaching isnt working anymore. Kids simply just wont play for you if your like coaches of the past. I know i played for one, and i loved it. But todays kids are different. One word and there gone.

I really like the play of the 44 on whitley that kid is a beast

He's a load to bring down.
Over the past 3 or 4 years, since Whitley has implemented this offense, it heavily relies on the fullback to open up plays.
Only problem is, the fullback is all we have. He can run himself to death, but without help, its not getting WC anywhere. We've been spoiled over the last 4 years with fast backs and a bruiser fullback but were simply not fast enough or strong enough in the backfield to do any damage after the fullback opens it up. Thats mostly due to a young team. They honestly havent matured enough yet to compete with older, stronger, faster kids.

Where were you a few years ago when the same coaches and administration had a team in the region finals, semi's, beating the lex caths of the world? Look, sometimes you get classes of kids that suck at football. Sometimes you get some good kids that just have bad attitudes or problems off the field (living with grandparents, bad grades, drugs, whatever). Whitley is also a mountain school, shoot people live FAR out in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes kids just can't afford it. This isn't college where you pay big time coaches millions or something. Shoot, the coach there probably makes 5 to 10k at most. Has a staff of 3 or 4 guys that make 2k each or something. Its high school ball...ya got what ya got. And sometimes that ain't very good!

:gtfo:
Do you honestly think that every other school in the state isn't dealing with same or similar problems? You think the kids at PCC, ROCK, or wherever else come from homes with 2-parents, loads of cash, live in houses with white picket fences in the middle of town, and make straight A's. Get real, statements (Excuses) like that just PMO.:devilflam

Not only would I support it....
but I would line my kids up for it EVERY time if I was the coach.

I gotta go with Zaga Fan on this one......they've put a lot of effort out in two games with little to show for it. A field goal, rather than another turn-over on downs, has to be considered a step forward. Whitley has the tools, they just don't have them ready yet, and their schedule isn't going to give them many chances to win the game.....so winning a drive has to count for something.

Keep in mind, going for the field goal shows your team that you are conceding that the best you can possibly do is a field goal, and that the ONLY thing to hang your hat on is 3 points against the JV and Freshman team. You still never scored on the varsity.

I do understand that I am in the minority though.

I see both side's. But i respect the call because it shows your kids we will not quit till its over

I think that they were just trying to assure that they did not get shutout for the 2nd week in a row! Rockcastle has a really dominant defense this year and I can't wait to see more! How did Rowe do in this game?

Congrats Rock!!

First of all, we never beat Lex Cath.
I know some classes of football sucks. Did you even read what i had to say?
I thought i made it clear that the biggest problem is the fact that we can only get 40 kids to play football. You and i both know thats ridicolous when theres that many kids in that school.
