Holy Cross (Covington) at Newport Central Catholic (Class 1A)
#1
Who wins and why?
#2
Holy Cross wins because Newcath just isn't that good.
#3
I wish NCC was not that good. I want to see Holy Cross come out with the win but it will take a great game from both sides of the ball and a few breaks on the field. NCC plays solid defense and mixes up the play calls. Holy Cross will have to keep preasure on the qb all night. Last game the rush was soft due to Highchew's ability to scramble, we need to put the rush on full throtle and hope the ankle has slowed him down a notch or two. Good luck to both teams, I believe the state champ will come from this game.

N.C.C. will take this one by a large score,40-13.

Just a hunch that this team is going to come out and play a great game.

So Lefty, whow would win if NC and Johnson Central played?

If Holy Cross can stop the run, they'll win the game. It really doesn't matter how aggressive they rush Hightchew, they need to have all the gaps covered so he's forced to throw or scramble towards the sideline. But if NCC runs the ball like they did last time, then NCC will win.

I'll be rooting for Holy Cross, always do when I'm not coaching against them, but I don't see Holy Cross keeping NCC's run game in check. Newcath by 2 scores

im sure it was a typo...but neither team is 1A
#8
Wideleft, NCC isn't that good??? I guess that's why Newcath already beat them this year???

I would like to Holy Cross take the next step but I don't think they can. NCC wins

Johnson Central would physically beat the heck out of Newcath. Newcath is too soft for Johnson Central. That's one of the teams Jude would rack up huge yards against. Newcath struggled with Holmes. You need look no further than their common opponent. Johnson Central would be Newcath in the neighborhood of 54 -20.
#13
Your funny NCC was beating holmes 35-0 and not playing their first team the whole game you shouldn't talk about game your not at. That was when Holmes was at full strength they even almost beat Beechwood. Not at full strenght HC destroys them in 3 quarters and Johnson beats the easy also.
#14
For this game It all comes down to how the lines play and if NCC can cover HC's receivers, HC not stop the run but stop brady from scrambling Beechwood didnt stop the run but did a great job containing BRady.

I was just curious, I was positive that you would come out with something like it would be 0-0 and would be called due to boredom

I'd wear an Eagle shirt to that game and sit with Johnson fan(Hoot). I'd break bread and have tea with Johnson fan in the stands if they crushed Newcath.

Matnay should call NCC and schedule a game next season or 2013. (859-292-0001). Ask for Coach Eviston. Maybe one day he'll get tired of beating Newport, Lloyd, Brossart, and some of those other juggernauts(no pun intended) on their schedule every year. I kind of doubt NCC would want to play though. Afterall, Single A Beechwood owns them every year and i read somewhere they're hoping to go thru a schedule undefeated some season. Some schedule that would be.

what's the deal with NCC not playing Highlands? I can understand varsity, but why not JV and freshmen? Its not like they'll lose kids to Highlands

With the ever increasing cost of tuition, Highlands is taking kids from them right now. There's kids at Highlands who had both parents go to Newcath. If you actually toured both facilities, it's real difficult not to go to Highlands. NCC is a good school though. I just think academics, facilities, and football are not even a comparison. NCC does a great job with what they have. That's more a compliment to Highlands than a knock against NCC.

Also, NCC bailed on the freshmen game against Highlands last year 3 days before the game when they faced an insurmountable task. A real lack of character IMO. It would be just as one-sided in Freshmen and JV ball. In varsity its a running clock by early 2nd qtr.

NCC for the third year in a row canceled the Campbell County JV game which followed the Friday night Varsity game.

Another example of kids practicing all week, looking forward and preparing for a game, then NCC says "no, we aren't playing." It's pathetic. It's a total lack of character. I appreach the Catholic teaching of morals. Where's the morality in cancelling a game and leaving teams in a lurch?

Campbell should schedule a varsity game with another team the same night as they're scheduled with NCC and not even tell NCC. When NCC shows up to play, say "didn't you get that email?" "we dropped you". "We don't play teams that cancel games on short notice". "And don't park your short bus in our lot. We don't want oil on the ground out there".

This year Lickert was told in the line after the game..... He literally called other schools on the ride from Newport back to the County to no avail.

It's unconscionable. I don't know if I spelled that correctly. It's beyond my scope of understanding how a program can cancel games left and right and not face penalties. Why would anyone send their kid to a school that thinks that is okay?

Why would you schedule them???

I think the dropoff of talent at NCC over the next couple of years is going to be so severe they might get running clocked by Dayton, Ludlow, and Brossart.
#27
^ LOL, I don't think that will happen. I've been waiting for that for 10 years at Brossart. Every year, the same thing is said, but they always find a way....

dont see why any of this convo mattters about ncc having a weak schedule. Their gonna sweep 2A and win state...

More of a testament to how weak 2a class is as a whole. Also, another blackeye on the 6 Class system where a weak sister like NCC, who can't beat a Class 1A team, can win a state title.

Last season NCC won a class 2A title and also lost to a Class 1A team. A Class 1A team that was eliminated during the playoffs. If you win a state title, but have a loss to a team in a lower class, your title should get an *asterik.
