Power Company wants 31% increase by 2016
#1
Kentucky Power is a subsidary of American Electric Power and that said they will try and keep things as low as possible because they know they are having a hard time paying already for their other rate increase. Due to the EPA, they have to be in compliance in with cleaner air by 2016 and they say this will cost them approximately 1 billion for the Cattlesburg refinery. They will not start charging until the work is done. AEP has so much cash on hand that every quarter they pay a dividend, depending on the stock price. This time it was .47 cents a share. So if you buy the stock just before the dividend date and you have 1000 shares you would get 470 dollars. This stock is held by 67% of institutions. I would really like to tell them to shove their, people are having a hard time crap. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

when the government increases regulations on businesses who do you think pays for them? The consumer. Businesses are in the business to make money. They answer to their shareholders

Obama is just making good on a campaign promise. If you want to blame rich people for soaring utility bills, then blame the Obamas.

What new laws and regulations is causing this increase? And why has it increased for the past 5 years?

Here is a good summary of the high points: [URL="http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Issues.View&Issue_id=87c1303a-7e9c-9af9-7d81-37771c380b87"]Reining in the Obama Administration’s Regulatory Agenda

The changes to the EPA's re-interpretation of its regulations is resulting in utilities being forced to retire and replace coal fired units prematurely, and somebody has to pay for the labor and new equipment. It is similar to Obama's cash for clunkers program, where the cost of used cars soared because Obama decided that perfectly good cars should be destroyed before their time. Only every customer of the affected utilities will be splitting the bill to cover the extra costs.
