I am really excited about this scrimmage. (probably one of the most interesting things on highlands schedule). @ HHS, real game format, and in a way the bragging rights for kentucky are on the line in a scrimmage.
Trinity is bringing back the Travis Wright - James Quick for the 3rd campaign as starters at QB and WR. Don't know what returns on OLine, RBs or Def, but Trinity has a lot to work with and they will probably be really big and fast.
Birds reload at QB with McCoy who started 90% of the victory over Elder.
WR core is very good, Collinsworth is a senior. RBs will be Seidle and Harris who had a big role last year.
I think it will be a shootout. If i had to put my house on it T by 13. I think them birds could possibly take it this year though. They lost P Towles but this is deep and balanced Bird team this year.

...and Elder played 100% of the game with mostly a JV team due to 13 starters being suspended.
Highlands will struggle to score against a very strong Trinity defense.
Trinity 40-7

I remember there were some suspensions, but if memory serves me right, very few were starters(Elder's JV team is better than at least 95% of KY's teams),
Trinity is going to be very, very good again this year. Highlands returns a ton of talent at the skilled positions, but the big question is how the lines will do. I have heard that the team plays a little soft this year (do not like to hit). I think HHS will struggle agianst Trinity(every team in KY would, and most in the country) but not be embarrassed. Highlands will do fine in 5A and be the favorite agian. Trinity will have another easy road to a 6A title.

I think they should have a 7 0n 7 with all the previous year state champions. That would be some fun stuff to see.

How can bragging rights be on the line? After last years game many Bird fans stated that coach played it conservative since it wasn't a real game. That IF it had been a REAL game they would have made a better showing.
After all it is just a scrimmage, both teams could be expected to play several kids from 2nd or 3rd teams working to get experience. Teams may be working on new O or D sets and just trying to work out the kinks....bottom line this scrimmage will not determine anything...IT'S JUST A SCRIMMAGE between the two of the best teams in the state.
Maybe some day they will play a game that counts.

2A,3A,4A,5A, they have played in too many classes to keep it straight, lol. Actually I don't think we have ever been in 2A, but we have been in the rest.

actually they have been in 2A. way back in the homer rice days.
it is a scrimmage, but i dare you to find a better scrimmage in ky hs football. it is cooler that over half of highlands real games on the sched.
a real game would obviously be cooler, but at the end of the year when both teams are undefeated state champions this scrimmage will be talked about by fans of both teams.
it is an awesome measuring stick for the birds going into the season but i would like to see them play for reals.
i wonder if all of those #2 in the nation cincinnati st x fans back in 09 thought that highlands would struggle? we forget so fast.

These are far and away the best two football programs in the Commonwealth- including colleges.

Listen make no mistake both teams play this scrimmage game to win. To say it's just scrimmage is just laughable. I applaud Highlands for playing Trinity. No disrepect to Highlands Cause they have certainly proven they are anelite program but like last years scrimmage they will simply be overmatched, to say anything else would just be being bais with excuses.

Yes, both teams will play to win, but at the same time, both teams will be putting in players to gain experience and both teams will also make sure that their star players do not get a season ending injury.
What better team is there in KY for either team to scrimmage? Trinity is the odds on favorite to win the state championship in 6A and Highlands is the odds on favorite to win the state championship in 4A.
With that being the case, it will be laughable for either team or their supporters to take away the idea that the same result would happen during the regular season.

Say what you may but the bottomline here is last year & this year Highlands was & will be this year overmatched vs Trinity. In the years to come I'm sure Highlands & St x. will close the gap but right now Trinity is the clear top dog of Kentucky. hell even Nationally they are one of the top dogs. Again no disrespect but if it were a real game it would be the same result & that is , Highlands would be over matched.

Trinity by as many as they want. Highlands will not score more than 7 against the starters. Last year was a landslide so what makes folks think this year will be any different?

Oh, I agree that on paper Highlands is overmatched, but what is on paper vs what is on the field does not always come to fruition. Anything can happen and sometimes does happen on the field. We are talking a game played by teenagers. On the college level, remember 2007 when Division I Michigan was playing at home against Appalachian State? Michigan should (on paper) have put the game away in the first half, but Appalachian State won the game at the Big House.
I have no doubt that Trinity has the ability to name the score on Highlands, but then it is only a scrimmage, so will they? Or will Trinity play a lot of second and third players after the first Q to get them experience and make sure the starters don't get injured for the regular season? Same thing for Highlands, how long will the starters play in a scrimmage? My point is that a game that counts will and should be different from a scrimmage.
To take any bragging right from a scrimmage is foolish on the part of either team or their supporters.
Lets hope that both teams have good outings, don't have any major injuries and both end up in Bowling Green and take home their respective trophy.

You were definitely right about last year and I think your thoughts on this year are very defendable. A lot will have to do with what type of O line T has this year. Last year's was outstanding and played a huge role in T's success. Dawkins, Wright and Quick were exceptional last year, but anyone that doesn't attribute a lot of their success to the O line T had last year simply does not know football. If T has anything close to the same caliber of O line again this year, T will be exceptional once again.
As for the gap, I'm sure it will close and open from time to time. In the 2010 scrimmage, it was a one TD gap in T's favor. In 09, while no scrimmage between the schools, Highlands beat a team that had better than a 40 point lead over T by halftime. So there have been years when Highlands was better or right with T in the past and I expect that to happen from time to time in the future. This year? We'll have to see but with the skilled players T has returning on O and the talented players returning on D, I can easily understand your optimism.
As for what would happen in a real game, both coaches did sub to work on depth last year. But only someone with blinders on couldn't quickly determine that the T starters last year were a much better team than Highlands starters were last year.

Just a scrimmage, so hard to get too excited about it, but I am glad to see the boys with the pads back on. I think we will see what everybody knows, HHS will be good and T will be very good. Looking forward to seeing James Quick play (although I would have more fun watching him play someone other than my birds). Of course both teams want to win, but I think coaches are more worried about see a lot of players on the field, not showing too much of their O, and keeping starters from getting hurt (a lot more hard hitting in this scrimmage than any other scrimmage in my opinion). I sure we will see a lot of reports after the game on here.

What I want to see out of this scrimmage is whether we can run the ball decently against Trinity's D. Last year we could not. If we can this year, I'll feel very, very good about our chances of repeating. If we can't, I won't panic because we won state last year without being able to run the ball against Trinity. But if we can, I have a strong feeling that it will be an exceptionally good year in good old FT.

Too many and too much D-1 signee for the Shamrocks, but Highlands has/ will always have the powerhouse status.
