Preseason picks for the 14th region?
#1
Still a couple months away from basketball season to start but never to early to get the talking started.

Who ya got in the 14th?

My preseason pick--Breathitt Co
#2
Breathitt and Knott at the top with everyone else a notch below them. I would like to give Breathitt a slight edge but a player like Justice has the ability to take over any game at any time and he could lead them to the top.
#3
1. Perry Central
2. Knott Central
3. Breathitt County
4. Hazard
5. NO CLUE
#4
Breathitt County
#5
1. Breathitt,Co 2. Perry,Cent 3. Hazard 4. Knott.Co. Breathitt should be very good by Tournament time. Perry will come back this year and will make a run better than people thank. 3. Hazard dont count them out if Olinger playes they may be the team to beat. 4. Knott lost their best player and BB said hes trying to the fans and pressure denfense will hurt this team.
#6
Knott Co. Central
#7
Perry Central.
#8
1) Breathitt County
2) Knott Central
3) Hazard
4) Perry Central
#9
Hazard--Hazard--Hazard. With the pickup of Chris Hudson, and Olinger coming back, Hazard has to be the favorite. Whitaker, Olinger, Hudson, Hollon,Thompson, Mobilini, Hall, Hardy, Triplett, Wells, Combs, and a host of others...Anyone of these players would be a starter on any 14th region team. Coach Holland has got himself a handful of talent and the rest of the region will be playing catchup...
#10
Breathitt but Hazard is right on their heels with those new players. I heard Olinger and Austin Johnson would be out this year.
#11
I'm a big fan of what Denny is doing in Breathitt County.
However, I have a hard time putting them at number one because last year they were up-and-down.

Hear me out before you blast me on that. They had a great record last year...
but it was filled with teams that they SHOULD have beaten anyway.
They had losses to Letcher and Wolfe early (we'll chalk that up to new coach jitters)
But they big thing to me was they went 1-4 against Perry Central and Knott County.
Those are opportunities to establish yourself as a top team in the region and they only won one of em and there were a couple where they were never in contention.

I know this is a new season and last year doesn't matter...
but I'm not ready to give them the nod at number one until they show that they can be a top team.

I fully expect Breathitt to push for a trip to Rupp this year...
but I'll put them at #2 until then.

#1) Knott - Lost the heart and soul of their team but still have a stud running the show and a host of good role players
#2) Breathitt - A lot to prove but they have the coaching and talent to win it all
#3) Perry - Lost the best player in the region but still have a phenomenal PG and one of the best coaches in the mountains. Dalton Cornett will be the X-factor for this team.
#4) Hazard - The Hudson pickup could be huge and Olinger is rumored to be back. I fully expect Hudson to contribute and Olinger to be on the floor. But let's face it - Hudson is still pretty raw and we all expected Olinger to be on the floor last year as well. He could get some looks for football this year and decide to sit out to prevent injury. I'm not a psychic - but this is me placing Hazard on this list as if he doesn't come out.

If Holland gets Hudson playing legitimate basketball (which I fully expect him to) and Olinger comes out for the team: I see no reason why Hazard can't be the number one team at season's end.

This is my preseason top 4...
I expect that by the end of the season that Hazard and Breathitt will play their way into the top 2 spots with Perry and Knott on their heels.
#12
Pretty good list Zaga. I do agree with that.
#13
Me too.

I agree. Only reason why I have Hazard ahead of perry is because of the rumor of Olinger playing. If false they drop to 4.

It was WAY TO EARLY to do my official pre-season rankings maybe around the first of Nov.
Perry, Knott, or Hazard could all add played to their rosters by then.

But as for RIGHT NOW. 8-14-12

1) Breathitt County - (23-6) Last Season, Semi-Finals Region, Returning: Noble, Hamilton, Cox, Trent, Fraley

2) Hazard - (20-12) Last Season, 1st Round Region, Returning: Hollan, Thompson, Whitaker, Triplett, Combs. Adding: Jordan Olinger and Chris Hudson. FYI: As of right now, Jordan Olinger is playing.... Olinger never once last season said he was going to play.

3) Knott Central - (29-6) Last Season, Regional Champs, Returning: Justice, Christon, Hall, and Cornett. But reason for being #3. No more Zach Davis (Heart and soul of the team). I think Knott will miss Seth Adams as well. Chirston, Hall, and Cornett great role players but one will have to step up big and all still young. They don't have their "Captain America" to save the day anymore.

4) Perry Central - (23-5) Last Season, 1st Round District, Returning: Beverly, Cornett, Pray. Loss the best player in the region. Although Braxton Beverly is now the best player in the 14th region, Cornett is going to have to show me more before I put them in the top 3. Austin Hill may turn out to be a name we talk about this season but he's still young. Perry may add players.

I agree, Hazard will be loaded with talent but you listed 11 players and a host of others, each and everyone of these players listed will expect to be playing the bulk of the minutes.Someone has to sacrafice playing time and a few of these players listed will see times throughout this season where they may only see 2-3 minutes per game, how will they take that(better yet how will their parents take it..ex. Thompson,MOBOLINI,Combs, and Wells) and are they willing to sacrafice their playing time for the team. With the addition of Hudson and Olinger Hazard will be a lot stronger but players who started last year will be ask to move to the reserve role and players that were reserves will be ask to be role players and see minimal minutes and last years role players will now be pine polishers! That being said the only coach in this region that could pull this off is Al Holland.

Oh yeah I had rather have 11+ great players as my problem to deal with rather than not enough!!Confusedinglepar

The last time Holland was in that position he made the right basketball decision. At PCC he benched Deron Amis and started then middle-schooler Eric Back.

Also - that same year was his last year at Perry Central and Eric Back transferred to Hazard.
^ That was just a coincidence

If Olinger comes out along with Hudson and the returning players they will be flat out tough. They gave people fits last year and needed strong inside players to complement their perimeter shooting. Now hopefully they will have it.Still see Breathitt and Knott being slightly ahead.Perry will be right in the mix also.
#21
Olinger will have to come out for them to have a dominating presence inside. Hudson like to play on the wing and leek out for showtime dunks. We all look at hudson as a 6'5 pf but he has played the 2 his whole life. That was the biggest issue with him last year. Tallest kid on the team and he plays the wing. Still a hell of a player, but not an inside player at all.
#22
That's true.Just figured he would play down low on the post some this year.Olinger was a beast when he played and always gave 100 % around the basket.
#23
Olinger told me last Thursday that he WAS NOT going to play basketball. I told him that he should play. If you are as good as he is, he should be playing. They need him to play at Hazard.
#24
^Your crap has gotten pretty old.. So I'm going to go ahead and tell everyone if you believe a word warmachine says EVER.. then you are dumb as him..

I myself, am going out on a limb and taking Hazard as the 14th region champs this year.
Breathitt does lose 1 or 2.. and I think those 1 or 2 make the difference.
#25
My rankings..

1. Hazard
2. Breathitt
3. Knott
4. Perry

and then the rest doesn't even matter really. But if I had to pick a 5th it'd probably be Dennis Wooten or Robinson Elementary.
#26
Hazard will be tough since they were good last year with almost all sophomores. Perry could be good but not sure how the team will work with Beverly wanting to make up for not being the start last season. Knott Co lost Davis but has Hall and Justice back with some other players filling roles. But Breathitt could find a way like they did last year with Denny. Cordia will again finish last as they usually do. As long as Rhodes is there a cordia kid will never get to play, only recruits.
#27
I will place any type of bet that Hazard doe's not win region with or without Olinger. Serious bets only.

I'll bet... But u have to pick a team... you can't have Breathitt, Knott, and Perry because they all could win the region but if u pick a team I'll take Hazard....

I just said Hazard won't win.

I wasn't trying to bet how you asked.

With Brax B transfer to KCC, it's a no brainer. It's going to be something to see the next few years. Gonna give KCC the runaway vote with hazard (with Olinger) next followed by Breathit,Cordia(got 3 new studs supposedly)
