I am sort of being serious. HC SHOULD be able to beat GC by 4 TD's,, but the Black Bear defense is 50 Shades of Bad.

Maybe Tates Creek found the Bears weakness. Throw em' a Krispy Kreme.

Playing against speed is most every mountain teams weakness. Gate City is a state power in VA, but will not have the same type of speed as Tates Creek. Gate City will play very hard, but Harlan Co. will have to much in the 3rd and 4th.

Funny how one of the best defenses in the state just a year or two ago can go to a laughing stock in just one year. Sad, seeing as how we have 8 starters back on defense! The state is making fun of these animals and someone must of gave them a bath! Until they decide to get nasty, please don't refer to them as filthy!

I couldn't resist, but I am a Harlan County fan from afar. I always check the update thread to see how they're doing. As a matter of fact, after I found out that the game had been on iHigh, I went there and have already watched part of it even though I know the score.

I'll have to see what Gate City has. I didn't think Tates Creek was as good as Morristown and they put up 54 on the Black Bears. The defrnse isn't that bad they just don't defend against the pass very well (see Highlands 2010) also they had TC stopped on 4th down twice and had questionable penalties that kept them alive!
I say this game is where the defense comes out and pitches a shut out! And Middleton has got some help as Treyvon Long and Cole Wilson are combining to create a three headed monster!

Harlan is allowing 44.5 point per game so far aginst two qaulity teams (not great teams, but good teams)... all this while Harlan County is having success on the ground and subsequently running the clock and cutting down the # of posessions. Pass defense or not...that is B-A-D defense.
What struck me watching them today is they simply don't have a lot of team speed or quickness on defense and they are playing very reactive, instead of being the aggressor and as a result they get caught a step behind and don't have the speed to make up for it. I thought the DL actually looked pretty good at times, but they seemed winded and once Tates Creek players got in the 2nd level they were tearing Harlan up.
Harlan County fans are the masters of illustrating their point through pictures so the best way for me to describe what I saw from HC is:
2 Years Ago HCHS Defense:

I love the creativity you guys show, most namely yourself.
With that said, I know Larkey won't stand for a defense being as....well toput it mildly... timid... as what HC has displayed, and luckily he has essentially an etnire season to rectify it. I think we can all agree that as it stands now the Bears have a long way to go in order to be back to the point where they are formidable enough to be considered a title contender though, and nearly all of that lies on the shoulders of their defense improving drastically.

Seen on the internet where Gate City (Va) lost to Richlands (Va) 40-6.

Coach Larkey said on the WYMT preview show that this years defense has the potential to be the best he's had at Harlan County! NO WAY he's that far off!
Gate City gave up 269 yard Friday night, looks like another high scoring night for the Black Bears. The Blue Devil defense will be Subpoenaed by the Law Office of Wilson, Long, and Middleton and the verdict will be 42-14! Black Bears

Laughing stock is a little harsh, and it hasn't been a year yet. BUT, I agree that the defense certainly is in need of an adjustment.
I don't think the "state" is making fun of these animals (I actually think that's funny), but the good news is that Coach Larkey has it well in hand, and I do have confidence that our defense is being "tweaked" as we speak.
I think the Bears will end their first home game with a major victory...by 21!!
Go Black Bears!!

That is debatable this year. They are a smaller school in VA. Add to that they were crushed by Richlands I believe in their first game - this should be no contest for the Bears. If it's close, I think Harlan County could be in for a rough season.

I don't think they are are a laughing stock, it's just sad as well as we have played defensively the last few years people pop off at any chance they get! I have all the confidence in the world Larkey and Canady will tweak the D and we will get better and better! As I said Saturday night, I see us back in the semi's this year if we will work and listen. Once you are there anything can happen!
