Devils had there chances to many bi plays can't allow special team td's against a team as good as Ironton. To many big plays on the option as well Ironton Qb ran it to perfection.

Patrick Lewis is freaking good.
Fatigue played a big part. Russell ran out of gas after it was 20-14 at the half. Lewis went off in the 3rd quarter with the back breaking punt return and a couple of long runs. Kid is fast.

Devils overated again and not in shape and it showed tonight

Devils weren't overrated. Just couldn't hold up with big bodies if Ironton. Plus who expected a wildcat formation and 5 wide from the tigers?

Won't be the only time the Devils lose to guys in orange and black!

congrats to the tigers

Ironton is very dangerous running the spread option. Lewis is just freaky fast. Here's a tip. Take the pitch man and make Duty beat you.
Russell just ran out of gas after a close and very physical first half.
I actually saw some incouraging things from the offense.
Ironton is very good. Even by Ironton standards.

Yes I went to this game as I could t make the trip to charleston. Just not enough depth for Russell, players cramped all night. Second is you gotta tackle Lewis low he is to big and fast to try to go high on him which Russell kept doing. Ironton is very big and the offense is a lot different than past years. The wildcat with Lewis seems really effective. Ironton doesnt have a lot of speed outside of Lewis and duty. The Russell passing game looke really good tonight I had a feeling Ivan didn't want to show it off to much against Greenup. The devils should have a fine season. I think Ashland is the only other game they lose till playoffs.

I hope they don't lose that one.
Russells passing game will only get better IMO.
The cramps stared the second play of the second half. At that point I knew we were in trouble.
And yes Irontons backs, all of them are too strong to tackle high. I was very impressed with the tigers. Much improved from last year. They are huge up front and Lewis and Duty give them plenty of speed.
White is an athletic big guy too. He made a great adjustment on that TD reception.

Out of shape is a poor excuse with an easy answer. Everybody gets same amount ofttimes to condition an workout winter spring summer better start taking advantage.

Call it what you want. The more games they play the better this team will get. I was surprised Ironton didn't cramp up more in the heat. But they played fewer guys both was than Russell and it as mainly the Russell linemen cramping.
They didnt really have too play muc against Greenup. I tink tonight was good for them.

You could tell right before half they were spent. Time ticking away with the devils about to score and what does Russell do? Walk to the line of scrimmage out of the huddle. You could tell they were gassed and even after having a halftime break were cramping left and right.

Doesn't make sense to me, you get in shape before season then regular conditioning to maintain it. Not trying to knock them just seems ridiculous that that is standard procedure..

From what i remember Russell does not do to much conditioning. They try and play to condition themselves for the season and the first couple of weeks are rough for them.

That's pretty much the way it goes. That's typically why Russell teams get better as the season goes along.

Could someone please explain to me why this is a good way to condition. Why not start the season in relatively good condition, especially when two of you first three games are with ironton and Ashland. I know these aren't as important as district games but you still want to give yourself an opportunity to win. Being this bad out of shape dosent do that for you. Also when you tired and based is when the risk of injuries and mistakes start to increase. Fortunately I don't think anyone was injured last nite. But as coaches why not give your team every chance to win and they know that ironton and Ashland are usually big and have speed and you can't play physical football or go against speed when your totally based. And it showes every year against these two teams
09-01-2012, 01:40 PM
It didn't show at Ironton last year. I'm just saying.
They do have weights and conditioning in the offseason. But that kind of spends on the work ethic oh the players as it is optional.
I really don't think they were in that bad a shape. Most of it was leg cramps. They will get better. The theory the way I understand it is have fresh legs come playoff time.
Apparently they have had some success.

My guess is they will probably drop Ironton off their schedule again like they did with Raceland.

They haven't dropped anybody yet and I hope they don't.
They won't drop Ironton.

In response to all the 'cramping' talk...
At this point in the season, you shouldn't be cramping. The teams who put in the work in the summer, work hard on their conditioning, and take all the necessary precautions top prevent cramping during the games are going to reap the benefits in the long run.
Coaching staffs that don't push their players to put in the work in the off season and during training camp are doing their football program a disservice. Those teams may make the playoffs, but they won't go far and as always, there will be a lot of 'you just wait till next year' talk...haha.

Russell was just over matched. Evans kid looked very good at QB. I thought they moved the ball good when they were passing it and mixing it up some. Ironton was just to fast and when Russell came out for the 2nd half and started cramoing up. Ironton smell the blood and just kept pounding it up the middle to take the air out and then the Lewis kid would break outside to empty the tank of Russell. What I saw was there was very little help,as subs, on the sidelines to give the players a breather. We hear about conditioning AGAIN. An ongoing problem and tackling the same issue every year. #6 should have came out of the game when he gave up, Isn't he a SR Captain ????? This is all the COACHES fault only. conditioning, tackling, quitting. Where is the discipline??????? No weak side blocking, NO down field blocking, No cut backs by the backs. Same problem just worst.

So you are going to criticize a coach with over 300 wins and 2 state championships saying he doesn't no what he is doing.
Haha

We know you hate the coaches. It's in every post you make.
They just got beat by a better team.

Good players can make a coach look good. Trish be told Russell should have won 3-4 more titles with the talent the've had. I would say any decent coach could have racked up a lot of wins by staying long enough and playing in one of the weakest districts every year.

Haha....Yeah I'm criticizing because obviously the game has passed your Daddy by....
Out of shape players, not renewing the rivally with Raceland, playing in one of the weakest districts in the state....there sure is a lot to criticize....
Oh, and it's 'know'....not 'no' when you used in the context you were attemping to use it in.....just sayin'.
