Obnoxious Stadium announcers
#1
Has anyone ever attended a high school football game in which the local PA announcer irritates the fans with his/her personal editoral comments over the stadium PA system following big plays for the home team ? Attended the Newport at Walton-Verona game last evening in which the local announcer seemingly "cheerleads" during and following plays. Became very annoying after a while and a lot of fans from the visiting and the local team expressed displeasure over this practice and people were stating something needs to be said to this guy or the athletic director. Officating crew from Louisville also expressed displeasure. I understand his inthueasimum (spell) as he seems to be doing a radio broadcast to the fans in the stands but this was a bit of extreme. The crew may report this to the KHSAA. I believe there is a rule in which stadium announcers are to just announce down and distance and scoring plays, etc, not cheerlead for local team.

Not so much obnoxious but funny. At Johnson central we were talking about how there PA announcer was really excited when the score was tied at Zero GOLEN EAGLES ZERO!!!! And how his voice sounded like the announcer from the Super Friends.

Farley at Raceland was by far the worst.

Roy Roberts who does the PA for Prestonsburg is the best in the business. No cheerleading. He gives runner/receiver or intended receiver, tackler, yard line, down and distance. I think the cheerleading PA announcers show a total lack of class.
#6
Greg Rose, Campbell County. He's toned it down considerably, but he was the talk of NKY for a few years.

it can be very unprofessional I don't mind a little enthusiasm after first downs or touchdowns but some get carried away

If it was radio announcers Dicky Martin is the most obnoxious hands down.

Bill Farley, with his first down Rams, can be heard all the way to Worthington, but when the Rams are losing, he really tones it down then, wonder why, lol

The Whitepantherking would love to do some Frankfort High games. PM me Coach Foley. :beg:

Wow surprised no one mentioned the PA at PCC. Im from here and he actually gets on my nerves but has toned it down some this year unlike last 2 seasons.

I think the announcer at JC plays his music a little to long, our QB would be starting with his hands under the center to take the snap, with the music really to loud. I can't see their fans enjoying this either. The cheering from the fans is silent, you can't hear nothing, Theres nothing wrong with it,great music but toOOOOOO much.

Ted Knight was the narrator on Super Friends.

He is known mostly for his roles as Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Henry Rush on Too Close for Comfort as well as Judge Elihu Smails in the movie, Caddyshack.

Bell had a PA announcer last year(first and last year...thank goodness) that was very annoying. Played the worst music at the worst times, but i could live with that. The thing that annoyed and I thought was classless, in the playoffs Bell was winning the game by a couple of touchdowns and he was on the PA talking about who we'd be playing the next weeks and giving updates on that score........IT WAS THE 1ST QUARTER. Anything could happen with this game and I almost started pulling for the other team just to shut this guy up.

That guy uesed to make my blood boil, lol. Did the state make him tone it down at all? Ryle was bad this year playing there music too long.......No outcome on the game whatsoever!

I was at a bowl game where the PA did play by play during the play. All the D needed to do was listen to know if it was a run, pass, setting up the screen or what ever the play was.
#18
aparently the Murray PA would make the top of this lists given his getting booted by the officals last Friday

I love rainbow Johnson!!

the best guys are the ones who you really don't notice or even know who they are....they give you the info you need and that is all. They don't cheer lead, they don't berate officials, the don't make negative comments about the opposing team....all they do is down and distance, tackles, receptions, and runs....pretty simple.

IMO, the only time a PA announcer should speak is when someone scores, and in the same tone for both teams.

It gets seriously annoying listening to guys say FIRST DOWN and "a gain of 4 on the play". Why you ask? BECAUSE WERE THERE. WERE SEEING THE SAME THING.

I don't mind the first down. It saying who carried the ball or caught the pass. But I remember a few years ago if I had to hear First Down Greenup county!!!!!! Followed by a hundred cow bells again I would've committed murder.

Farley at Raceland could definitely be a little over the top but he also brought some energy to the game and was very passionate about what he did. I think we should bring him back for at least one more "First Down RAMS!!".

That's who that is?! Yeah, he was terrible. I don't remember him being quite as bad at the CCHS/Ryle game a few weeks ago, so he must have dropped it a notch.

Hey Perry Central has my vote, I don't know if its still the same cat. He rally got on my nerves.

Nobody can be worse than the guy who Louisville Western has.

I made the trip back in 2010 to watch Allen County Scottsville/ Western play in the state semis, and wow. Horrible.

A couple of years ago the West Jessamine PA was like that. Start yelling pass while the play was going on. Boyle called a TO and to talk to the officials and they shut this guy up.

Dropped it several notches...
