What's the difference? Super has swim party for recruits? Coaches call other districts players? Coaches attend games of 8th graders? Promises to student flying like the wind? Think it's bad in and around Ashland come to Harlan!

Please elaborate???? Are you talking football or Basketball?

:lame:This is so very lame, no basis in fact. Don't know what the burr in the britches is about but believe it or not, kids come to the city so they can get playing time, because their parents want them to be educated in the HISD, etc. Those things do not take recruiting, they are common sense. Why don't you post something nice about your own school, instead of harping on things that you know nothing about. :dudecomeon:

So Bibbs, do you deny that a swimming party at the new superintendent's house didn't take place? If you are you are dead wrong. Also on the post about Harlan must not be getting many kids from the county because their numbers are down, well, that is why they are trying to reach our jr. high kids because if Harlan doesn't get some kids from the county then they will not have a football team next year. AND, yes they do promise them playing time or starting jobs as a freshmen. I know, I was approached a few years ago with my son. So don't tell me it does not go on!!!!!!

Didn't your son play at Harlan about 5 years ago?
10-29-2013, 08:27 PM
No SIR, my son played one year for Cawood and three for HC.
10-29-2013, 08:33 PM
AND my daughter was on the WONDERFUL academic team that was VERY successful. Look, I don't have a problem if a kid wants to go to the City if THEY and I mean THEY want to go BUT, this crap of people trying to promise this and promise that to our county kids and I mean (early playing time) that is a bunch of $#!T!!!!!!

I'm saying you are paranoid and a conspiracy theorist. Listen, I know for a fact JB doesn't promise anyone anything, and he is the coach, no one calls his shots. Stands to reason if you come to a team like Harlan with small numbers and you are a good player, you will play. I'm saying you have some hate going on that has very little to do with football. And so far I've resisted about the recruiting by the county for city talent, if not so much in sports, then in other areas. Listen, parents should be able to send their kids where they want, period. Live and let live. Its folks like you that keep the hating up and stop clear minded folks from just living and let live. There are lots of reasons parents change their kids schools. Its their business. Get over it.

I never said a thing about JB officially trying to get kids from the county to come to the city. He leaves the dirty work to others and so does Parks. You never did answer about the swimming party via Superintendent? Did it or didn't it happen? LOL!!!!!

AND, as far as county recruiting city please enlighten me... THAT IS HILAROIUS!!!!

The reason I didn't address it is that paranoid folks find something in nothing. I know the folks you are talking about and they are not underhanded people. Are you saying because someone who goes to the county can't go swimming at the home of someone who goes to the city? They have kids, why can't they be friends. You see issues where there are none, and again, what are you afraid of? HC is very successful, I can't tell they've missed a beat and while I'm at it, I am not going to name any names or go to your level, but as much as you think its hilarious, (which is hilarious considering your wild theories), contracts have been awarded, folks have kept their jobs or been hired, etc to see that HISD kids that are talented in certain areas go to HC. Rant on and on, have your theories. Maybe the Ancient Aliens were recruiting for Harlan, lets watch Sy Fy and see.

JB wouldn't promise any incoming kid anything. I do believe that to be the truth. We have the some of the best facilities in the state, a great team and a bright future. I don't think we need to waste our time worrying about what goes on at a small school down the road that is on hard times. They will get some our kids from time to time and we will get some of theirs. Chorak and Miller might be there now, but we did get Chitwood and Fields in basketball a few years ago as well as Davenport and Stittums in the girls sports. It's not like we havent benefited as well.

This kind of stuff happens in every City vs. County school district. Harlan and Harlan Co. will be no different. Kids are going to transfer and it will continue to the end of time. This to me is what makes the rivals so great and fun to watch. I would say if you ask the folks at Bell, Middlesboro, and Pineville the same would hold true over the years.

shadow 308, as a father, I did report (people) from Harlan City talking to me AND my son to the proper authorities and I know as a fact that officials from Harlan County contacted the KHSAA but nothing was ever done. I guess my point is, I guess if you are a team like Fairview that makes it big ( you know, the state finals) and Harlan who is average to below average to the KHSAA it makes a difference on who they come down on. BOTH recruit kids but I guess you have to make a state wide statement before you make a difference for the KHSAA to get involved.

No contest here. Fairview has more imports on the team than Harlan has players.
11-01-2013, 03:24 PM
So it's ok to do it until you have success? It's not that big of a deal if your not very good? Seems a lot of people are talking out both sides of the mouth! If people only knew some of the things going on since Johnson retired, well lets just say it could give Fairview a run for its money! It's coming to to a head folks, don't be surprised to see a new thread with Breaking News!

I know the Harlan Faithful especially BIBBS thinks I am in another world but the hammer MIGHT be coming down on the Dragons and all their shenanigans. I heard today that there has been not one but a couple of parents who have owned up to county officials that supporters of the city NOT people who are employed by the city district , just the money people who do the dirty work have contact them either personally or through a second hand person about their kid coming to the city. NOW, I know this is true, trust me. BUT, will anything be done? Will the County follow up on this or will we just sit back and take it up the rear? Only time will tell. Listen people, I wouldn't be so adamant about this but this happened to me and my wife several years ago.

I have been giving a few hints but it's completely out. Just sit back and watch, it could get interesting!

What in the world are you afraid of Bearclaw? Again I'll stand on what I said, HISD is not recruting anyone, and if you call recruiting some parent saying to another parent, why don't you send your kid to Harlan, he/she will most likely get lots of pt due to the low numbers? Is that different than awarding a contract to someone when the county says send me your kid who has went to Harlan for all these years and is good in this or that and you will get the contract? This has happened folks. Now those kids are big points of pride to the county, see what we have, well they are city kids recruted by the county. I say so what, if they want the education at the county, let em go. You are on a witch hunt my friend and in the end there has been no wrong doing by the HISD. I still say, let the parents choose where their kid goes to school. Just the very fact that their has to be a rule or a contract about it lets you know that if there wasn't one, the City doors would be bursting. There is a long list of folks who want in, but can't due to the restrictive contract. Also, we have a County employee who lives in the city instigating complaints about taxes in the City district who's kid goes to the county (after pressure from the former superintendent of the county finally pushed them into it) So what does that show. It shows folks will do anything to demonize HISD, just like you are doing. Why the hate? or is it jealosy? I'd like to know the root of it. Let the money follow the child in our state and these issues won't even come up. Go root for the bears, they are a great team, your witch hunt is pointless in the light of their success. If 1 or 2 of them decides to come to the city so they can play, how does that hurt you or anyone?

If harlan ind. wants a good football team hire wood and Craig next year they could probably bring more than half there middle school team that made it to the state semi finals in the middle school playoffs. Harlan ind. can never beat hazard and pikeville in the playoffs bring in those kids from new harlan in 2 years harlan ind. would be a single a power by the way new harlan blew out hazard and pikeville not a game.

But the contract is what everyone keeps forgetting. That is why this talk is crazy. There are rules and no matter what is thought on here, HISD goes by the rules. There are no jobs to give folks jobs to get them into the city. That leaves moving to the city and if they want to do that, then more power to them, but all this conjecture has no factual basis. Its much ado about nothing!
