Mason County @ Bourbon County 11/22
#1
Two 12-0 teams face off in Paris. Who you got and why?
#2
I go with Bourbon. Defense is playing great!!! Offense is too
Two words: Dakota Mitchell
#3
According to the rest of 3a these are the two worst 12-0 teams ever .... Whoever wins i hope they can prove themselves going forward.
#4
Bourbon by 35! If mason co comes out flat and doesn't get a stop early this game could get ugly fast. I just can't see Mason beating Boco.

Sorta funny you mention that, since both teams' opponents have the
two worst records in 3A of the remaining teams:
#1-Paducah Tilghman-(87-54)
#2-Pike Central-(71-54)
#3-Belfry-(70-54)
#4-Central-(60-75)
#5-South Warren-(58-76)
#6-Mason County-(56-76
#6-Bourbon County-(56-77)
#8-Wayne County-(48-74)

Bourbon County wins though, and welcomes Pond Creek Nation to Paris in two weeks.
#6
Boco wins by 3-4 scores. Wot shut them out, but survives another day before the pond creek faithful come to town. Boco wins this one easily.

Funny you should post that, because it looks like Wayne Co. (your 3a consensus top 3) has the worst record of the remaining teams by a long shot.

Just sayin...

Bourbon 41- Mason 38

Whats even better is that your top two on this list have won a combined 5 games against teams with a winning record.

Bourbon has beaten 5 themselves.
Mason has beaten 4 teams with a winning record.

Every week people preach about how close Bourbon's game will be, and how much more of a test they are going to have. The fact is they are 12-0 with 12 running clocks. The defense has given up 12 points in the 6 games their star QB has been out, and they are beating teams by an average of 41 pts per game. They may not win 3a, they may not beat Mason Co. but I think its kinda of crazy that Wayne and PT get all the hype they get and Bourbon gets none given what the teams have done all year.

Time will tell...

Can anyone provide an update on Pope? With Dalton Pope...BC is absolutely a threat to reach Bowling Green. Good mix of run and pass...and Pope is definitely a weapon himself.

I think the big issue for Bourbon moving forward is their defense. Just haven't played a strong enough schedule to really provide a test. IMO, that's the big unknown.

That being said...can't see Mason really providing much of a threat....especially @ Bourbon.
#12
Bourbon 42
Mason 14

Being a Belfry fan this Bourbon team scares me, they have experience, speed and a desire to avenge last years loss to Belfry. I would like to see Mason upset Bourbon just to get a scary Bourbon team out of the way. That being said, Bourbon will be waiting for the Pirates next week in Paris.

I have heard that Pope will not play this Friday but has been throwing balls. The word around Bourbon County is Pope cant move to well. Even tho Boco has a good running game with out Pope Mason doesn't stand a chance if Pope plays, hell mason wont be able to stop Holman or Hill. If Pope plays it just adds more points to the board at the end of the night! Another Running clock

I thought I saw a few Belfry Peps at last weeks game seems like Belfry is a little worried this year. Not to say Boco is not, But we want Belfry!
#15
Pirates don't worry they just game plan. 28 / 9 Belfry
#16
My only worry is that so many (non Belfry) fans have already crowned the Pirates the winners of the east and Bourbon is a very good football team that can realistically play the spoiler. I wont be overlooking a team that has a very real shot to keep us out of BG, most real Belfry fans won't either. As fans we know anything can happen on a Friday night, but we also know the man in the locker and his players fear no team, no challenge and are ready for any obstacle.
#17
From what I heard Friday, I wouldn't expect to see Pope the rest of the season. Like kickrocks said, he still has a very noticeable limp.

What maybe some Belfry fans do have common sense, Haywood will have Belfry well prepared but so will John Hodge and his Staff. The people of Bourbon County really didnt know what it took to have a Great Football Program but Hodge is/has put things in place to make that happen. This years BoCo Belfry game will be a Classic BoCo 36- Belfry 21

I would be more concerned if Belfry fans were already punching their ticket to BG. Most Belfry fans are relatively knowledgeable...and realistic when it comes to the Pirates. PCN knows... if Belfry is fortunate enough to advance to State Semi's...that Bourbon will be a formidable task...especially on the road. However...if history is any indicator.....Haywood and Staff will be prepared. They have been very successful as the "road dog"......ala playoff road wins at Garrard, Somerset, Mason...just to name a few in the recent past. While this Belfry team isnt as formidable as past teams....offensively they can be much more explosive. Turnovers and stupid penalties are the achilles heel of this team...along with an evolving defense. But Haywood's got them coming around. If Bourbon and Belfry DO ADVANCE.......Sure to be a good game.

Just be careful what you wish for.

Bourbon will focus on Mason this week, they won't be peeking ahead. Mason is a good team with a good coach and not taken lightly

Yea Yea Yea we are not wishing for S*** Boco is going for what we want! you only need to wish if you feel as if you cant reach want. This Bourbon County team has put in the work on and off the field the only game we have lost is to Belfry in the past two years. WE WANT BELFRY!!!! only time will tell

Yea BoCo is focused on Mason Co. this week, Very focused on the 800 formation and the 600 motions that Mason runs to only have 7 or 8 plays. How focused do you need to be hell all you have to do is get lined up right. I'm going to tell you whats going to happen Mason is going to come to Paris and have alot of shots of BOURBON and have a long ride home down HWY 68. I hope they wont be swerving!

If I remember correctly the Pirate D held Boco #1 running back (Hopkins) to something like maybe 3 yards last year. So what your wanting is to be able to say next year is that Belfry is the onTongueirateSholy team that has beat us twice in as many years. That is (IF) both Belfry and Boco can get past their opponents this Friday.
#24
I don't why Bourbon would be overlooking a Buchanan coached team only to be met possible the next week with Haywood. If you're a coach/fan/player overlooking a team this time of year, you'll find yourself at home the following week.
I think Bourbon wins this without a doubt, won't be able to stop Holman.
#25
Belfry is good, we know, This years Bourbon team would beat last years Bourbon team bad! Holman is better than Hopkins. Guy is just as fast, but benches well over 300 pounds, with a 500 pound squat. Hill can take it to the house any time, along with Johnson. 4 great receivers, great line, defense stepping up, etc. if both teams advance, it's going to come down to execution, turnovers, & which defense can slow the other down
#26
Belfry fans know that any-time you return 9 starters off a Semi-Final team who did give Belfry some serious issues last year (Hopkins was a non-factor, but Pope gave Belfry fits) that you are legit.

Belfry fans also know that the Pirates are far from being the team some people feel the need to claim them as. Belfry is still trying to find their identity on defense and just had their First Week since about Week 4 or 5 where they were actually healthy.

Bourbon firmly has Belfry's attention and most Pirate fans expect a very formidable opponent.

People outside of Belfry contend that Belfry has had a cakewalk to the title in 3A for the past several years and assume it to be the same thing this year. I think those people simply focus on the Final Score of games and short sell Belfry's teams and the fact they have defeated some pretty darn good teams the past few years (Boco/Breathitt/Somerset/Mason County)

They did hold Hopkins last year, but this year there in no Hopkins or no Messer. Last year Belfey was just more physical team then BOCO. Also last year was supposed to be like the dream team of Belfry football and they still didnt win it came close but didnt. this year team will surprise you Belfry fans I know Haywood will have you all ready and all that but he aint playing the players are.

I'm trying to figure out how people are looking into next week already? Mason soundly Garrard which gave Bourbon the toughest game they've had all season. Granted that was the first game without Pope but this Mason team should not be taken lightly. I think Bourbon wins but Mason will put up some points.
#29
Mason County deserves a lot o0f credit. I predicted before the season that Mason would be 12-0 entering this game to meet a 12-0 Bourbon County... but at the same time I expected Mason to never really be a threat in the 3A Title picture.

The past few weeks have been a bit of revelation as Mason has seemingly taken their game to the next level. Scott is a solid football team who mason dominated... they also beat the brakes off a decent Garrard County team. IMHO, Bourbon still enters as a favorite.. but Mason has a respected coach who has been here before, a ton of experience, and their own fair share of athletes.

This is a game I can see Bourbon rolling by 4 or 5 TD's... it is also a game that I could see Mason pulling an upset. Either way I wouldn't be surprised.

For now:

Bourbon 42
Mason 20
