Madison Southern vs GRC Scrimmage
#1
Should be a good battle to see tonight!!!

What happened?

Both teams had a kickoff and punt to begin the scrimmage.

Madison Southern's Damien Harris returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

The varsity played 2 full quarters.

Madison Southern scored 3 additional touchdowns during the game. Harris had 2 of those 3.

GRC failed to score in varsity although they drove the ball on the Eagles. Fumbles were a problem for GRC.

The JV and freshmen squads played the rest of the scrimmage.

Sorry for the late post, but it was a little unexpected. Southern's defense was better than I thought. They bent but didn't break and of course Damien looked terrific, but I was impressed with Southern up front. They got the push all night. GRC did some nice things as well and have some very good kids, but did a fair to poor job tackling in the open field, even on guys not named Damien. I really feel like Southern can beat Pulaski after watching the Maroons beat Madison Central. Southern should have no problem with Rockcastle, but I will say the first game of the year can pose some jitters. Southern plays a very solid schedule and I look for them to be 9-1 or 8-2 on the year...should be a solid year.

FF, when did you move to sidelines? Was surprised to see you there? How'd the freshman look for you?

Grc, moved the ball on southern looked like to me. They 2 or 3 fumbles deep in the red zone. Obviously, 34 is the difference maker but teams better know where Dean is. Good luck to the Eagles.

I said the D bent but didn't break (came up with turnovers), and as a matter of fact I was standing next to the MSHS sideline the whole game. You must have me confused with somebody else.

Maybe you can clarify on this. PC absolutely manhandled Central. Serious question...I know Central is not very good, but what makes you think that this is the year Madison Southern beats Pulaski based off that scrimmage?

Just a hunch. I have never known a group of kids at Southern who have worked this hard for 4 years. There have only been 3 really good teams in Southern's history and these kids are hungry and I just think they will get it done. Everyday these coaches talk about how hard these kids have worked and I just look for them to get it done. By NO MEANS am I saying that Pulaski Co. will be a certified win, I think Pulaski will win the regular season game...I just think these boys will get it done in the playoffs and had it not been for the mudbowl last year Southern may have won then.

There's nothing wrong with a hunch and that is understandable. I may even agree with you if I wasn't biased for the PC folks. LOL. I could say the exact same thing you just said about the PC kids. They're the hungriest I've ever seen. I would argue that the mud bowl last season wouldn't have been as close as it was in PC's favor had it been great weather. It is very difficult to run a spread offense in the mud and we all know that's PC's bread and butter. The weather put them at a huge disadvantage that night. This season? Harris will get hit hard and often by this stout and very fast Maroon defense. The label of "the best running back in the nation" has been like throwing a piece of bloody meat into a sharks tank with these guys. They taste blood and to say they fear no one would be an understatement. The only problem with this is that they play one game at a time and October 10th will seem like a lifetime.

There is nothing but RESPECT for Pulaski Co., and that has been said from players and coaches I have talked too...and you are right...October 10th is a good ways away!...so I better get back to work.

You got that right. It's hard for me to get anything done at work during football season!
